    Primative Entry Level 360
Note: Be sure to read all of my review. I've added updates as I go with using this device. If you plan on using only your phone for this, don't buy. Mac or PC is highly recommended for editing the video.First off, nice looking camera. The quality build is good. Image quality... lets just say the lighting is not good. The videos are very shadowy as in the shadows are darker. Which we have seen from Nikon's own videos published. I get the quality of videos, 360 cams really need to be 8K instead of 4K, but the lighting isn't as good as a GoPro. That will have to be fixed in editing. I'll give them props for coming out with really the first action cam to have dual lenses, there's really no other product out there. Just remember, 360 video is in it's infancy don't expect excellent quality from this. You really need a several thousand dollar rig. People don't notice this, but the camera does all of the stitching, you don't need any special expensive software to do that. It's all done in the cam!Indoors are decent, just make sure the surroundings is a good distance from the camera because you will have stitching lines on the left and right side. Haven't tried at night yet, will update as I go. Semi dark rooms with the blinds closed will get a grainy picture effect. There's also a stitching line on the Nikkor label side of the camera (noticed when uploaded to vrideo)Advice if you do get this camera, get a high capacity microSD card because it's filming in 4K. A couple minute video takes up a Gig.Overall, I wouldn't recommend this as an action cam if you're looking for quality, sharpness, and ease of use. Get a GoPro for that. This is really just for 360 videos and 360 pictures only. You can't change the settings to use only one camera. The camera is in fact ahead of the others out there because it's the first true universal 360 action cam. There's the Gear 360, but that's proprietary with the Samsung Galaxy (Update: New Gear 360 coming and works for all devices, $350). If you wan't high quality and in an affordable package, you're just gonna have to wait a couple of years. We haven't hit 8K on a consumer level and that's gonna take a lot of SD storage and processing. I get why GoPro hasn't made one yet, they're all about quality. For uploading raw (converted to MP4) videos to the web, I recommend VeeR. Works with all VR devices. Otherwise you need software to inject metadata in order to have YouTube or Facebook recognize the video is 360.For 360 photos, the latest firmware update injects metadata, so you can upload raw photos to Facebook for 360 gyro viewing. Impress your friends!Update 1: Been experimenting this all weekend. Pretty solid, does take some video experience to get the videos to work. I noticed the stitching lines distinguishable because of the different exposures to the lighting, one camera may get more lighting because of the sun, than the other. I recommend downloading the GoPro VR Viewer app to view the videos. You can also upload to GoPro's VR video service. To work with Facebook, there's a meta data tool on YouTube's support page for 360 videos. The tool is for Mac and PC, doesn't seem to work with getting 360 videos on YouTube but it definitely works with Facebook 360! I trust Nikon will get the phone app straightened out, guess that's what I get for being an early adopter.Update 2: Ok, I finally got the app to work. May have been user error or they did an internal update. Sorry for the fuss. I'm using the iPhone 7+. Here's how I did it... first my error was that I went into bluetooth settings and tried to pair, big no no! Do not try to pair, if you do, forget the device. First go into the Snapbridge 360/170 app, yes, 360/170 app, not the Snapbridge app the 360/170 app. There are two apps with the same icon in the app store. Set your Nikon KeyMission in Pairing mode by holding the record button for 7 seconds till the two lights flash green. When they alternate, it's in pairing mode. Select the KeyMission that shows up and wait, the phone will have a pop up with nothing, keep waiting and the KeyMission will show up. Select that and wait. Takes some time. Then it should pair. Try again if it didn't work. Make sure your iPhone is up to date on firmware. With the app, you can access the camera settings. There's actually a lot of good settings and sure enough settings for exposure, I don't think my camera was recording at maximum quality either. Hopefully the shadow issue will be fixed.Update 3: Made an accidental drop test. Look in the photos I posted. Camera survived! Though the lens protectors are scratched up. Had to order new ones. FYI, each lens protector is $40! My points of impact were the lenses and two corners. The corners weren't noticeable. The drop was 8ft. I work on a tugboat so it hit the soft line on the forward spool and then it bounced and hit the bulk head and metal deck. Probably the hardest impact you can get. Camera survived! Nothing cracked or chipped just scratches and pitting.Update 4: So it's April 2017, I've barely used this device like a GoPro. I've made a couple of videos. It's been fun playing with this but now we are seeing more 360 stuff this year. Nikon still hasn't done much software wise with this. Samsung just announced the Gear 360 for all devices which includes live Facebook streaming. With a price point of possibly $350. Samsung may have killed this camera. Not to mention Samsung will have better software. The only thing that set this Nikon apart from Samsung is it's ruggedness and ability to dive. Unless you plan on doing a lot of close up 360 videos don't get this camera now. Wait for the Gear 360 or some other camera, more competition on the horizon! Possibly the end of this year.Update 5: Just wanted to make a small update. It's June 2017. I'm looking at that Gear 360 and the quality looks the same. This camera is still ahead of its time. I've updated the camera firmware which required a manual download from the Nikon site and drop into the SD card. The firmware added Metadata! So now when I upload a raw photo to Facebook or Google Photos, the sites recognize it as a 360 photo. I don't have to inject metadata anymore with photos. I still do with videos because I edit in Final Cut Pro and that doesn't inject meta data. Trying to find some good uses for it. Since it's the summer I'll be more active with this. I'll try to snorkel with this. The app still sucks, I have to re-pair every time to get a connection. It's best to just buy a SD card reader for your phone and now with the metadata, it'll be easy to just forget the app exists, though you would need it to fix the resolution and lighting in settings. One cool use I have found for this is I've been publishing my photos to Google Street View via the Street View App.Four stars for "I Like It"
