characters were more fascinated by the social choices of one another rather than the fantastical extraordinary things happening around them.
bryan lee omalley executed an honest take on social interactions amongst friends that never once seemed forced.
you could tell that these interactions were coming from a very earnest place of experience, and would use that grounded reality as a foundation to grow into something more than it originally set out to be. SP even evoked a strange yet nostalgic quality that oddly felt very true to life.
a book that focuses on an apparent love for quips and witty banter through character interaction
and a uniquely casual take on an absurd world,
Scott Pilgrim is a masterpiece in its own right.
10/10.
lost at sea and seconds sucked.
Reading the color version for the first time enhanced the narrative, breathing new life into the already vibrant characters and settings, while still respecting O'Malley's original black and white editions. And while I find most final books in a series to be disappointing, this one has a brilliant ending that will leave the reader missing the world as soon as they close the cover.
In addition, returning to the story a decade later revealed layers of humor and subtle nuances that were perhaps overlooked in earlier readings when I was closer to the age of Knives than the rest of the gang. The characters' ability to navigate Scott's flaws with clever jabs and comebacks stood out to me more than before. Could everyone cool it with the outdated slurs? Absolutely, but it shows that it's not only Scott who could use some self-reflection (though it does help to admit that this is a sign of how it has been almost two decades since the first edition). O'Malley's choice to show each character's imperfections is a modern reflection of F. Scott Fitzgerald's approach to his classic novels.
Despite Scott's shortcomings, the graphic novel succeeds in creating a realistic and relatable world, making it an engaging and nostalgic read for those familiar with the series. And the next time I find the final book in a series to be disappointing, I'll tell everyone it's because I grew up on Scott Pilgrim's Finest Hour.

Even if you have the black and white edition, I'd suggest this, as the colours jump off of the page and make it almost an entirely new experience. The extras I back are super nifty too.
In conclusion: You want to buy a thing that you interpret the lines and symbols into images and language with to create a narrative? This could be that thing!
