Editorial Reviews

One of the most anticipated global releases of 2017, "÷" sees the 25-year-old in his finest form yet. Drawing inspiration from a wide array of experiences and subjects, Sheeran takes you through a hugely personal journey; be that reflecting on past relationships, family memories, his musical career or his time off travelling the world in 2016. Musically, ÷ is a varied collection of beautifully orchestrated and emotive ballads, impassioned raps laid over hip hop beats, timeless acoustic guitar masterpieces, and innovative, idiosyncratic pop music. Constantly on the move, the album was recorded between LA, London, Suffolk and while crossing the Atlantic aboard the RMS Queen Mary 2. Executive produced by multi-GRAMMY winner Benny Blanco and Sheeran himself with additional production coming from frequent collaborator Johnny McDaid, GRAMMY winner Mike Elizondo, and BRIT-award winner Steve Mac. Sheeran also created the album artwork concept for "÷" , even painting the cover himself.

Unveiled in tandem last Friday, the album's first singles "Shape Of You" and "Castle On The Hill" highlight a clear divide to his musical spectrum - the former being an inventive dismantling and rebuilding of modern-pop using little more than a loop pedal juxtaposed by a stadium-ready, rocker with hdriving beats and Springsteen-esque riffs. Together the two singles logged over 13 million global streams in the first 24 hours, breaking Spotify's 'day 1' streaming record. With "Shape Of You" tallying 6,868,642 streams and "Castle On The Hill" landing 6,168,395 streams, both of the new tracks have individually had overtaken the previous 'day one' record holders (One Direction logged 4,759,698 streams with "Drag Me Down" in August 2015) marking another record-breaking milestone in his career. Meanwhile, the accompanying lyric videos received over 60 million combined hits, having amounted over 10 million views in the first 24 hours - these mark his fastest-ever video launches, with the accompanying official videos still to come.

Excellent! Ed Sheeran nails it on DIVIDE with (2) Versions - 12 track Regular and a 16 track Deluxe version.
Being that I'm already a big Ed Sheehan fan, I had to grab this album. Not only am I a fan of his vocal style, since "I See Fire" was featured in the Movie; The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, I am also a guitar fan and love the nuances of his playing, as I also play them on my own guitar. I purchased the Deluxe Version, which gives you (4) extra songs. Those songs are Barcelona, Bibia Be Ye Ye, Nancy Mulligan and Save Myself. Otherwise the first (12) tracks are the same on both versions.Sheeran already released the first two singles from this album, "Shape of You" and "Castle on the Hill", back in January. Both of them went to the top of the charts and he became the 1st artist to have (2) songs debut in the Top 10, here in the US. After taking a year long hiatus and a break from social media, he announced that he would have new music the Friday after New Years Day. When he took that hiatus, he actually threw away his cell phone....GONE! Good for him, when he went on the Ellen Degeneres show, after he came back, he told her, it was just too stressful and still doesn't have a phone, but uses his iPad instead. After he released his singles, he played the Glastonbury festival and debuted his new CF Martin Guitar, which make exceptional beautiful instruments, featuring the new Divide Symbol on the body and the headstock, which you will start to see in many new videos. The first track "Eraser" Ed tries his hand a bit in a rapping style that leads to a great chorus for the song. He follows it with "Castle on the Hill" which is more of his normal eclectic style and is a song about him growing in his Suffolk home town of Framingham. Then comes "Dive" which is about meeting your true love for the first time, excellent with an electric guitar solo added. Next track is one of my favorites and is "Shape of You" which he performed at this year's Grammy Awards. This is the typical fun Ed song of the album. He slows it down for another great romantic ballad track "Perfect". "Galway Girl" is and ode to his beloved Ireland and a little crazy with some of his rapping, he also had a Belfast trad band "Beoga" to help on this track. "Happier" is another ballad about failed relationships and he sings about being a generally bad boyfriend. Speaking of boyfriends, "New Man" is Ed singing about his Ex's new Man. Only to follow it with a song about making up, titled "Hearts Don't Break Around Here". "What Do I Know" is a good song about exponential growth within one's self. Although it's pretty good, his signature guitar sound comes right out in the song, so if you like his rhythm, you'll like the song. "How would You Feel - Paean" is another ballad with smooth guitar rhythms, is a typical love song track for his girlfriend, "Cherry". Ending his normal version album, is "Supermarket Flowers" a song dedicated to his Mum and is a song, that Ed said in the Amazon Exclusive Video, he hopes will just bring his audience to tears, he said everyone loves a fun song, but if his fans can cry, then he knows he reached them. For his third album, I think he did extremely well and is on the right track. There is something to be learned about a man that ditches his cell phone. On the Deluxe Version of this album with the (4) extra tracks, I enjoyed the extra tracks, as would you, but it is a bit more expensive here and in the retail outlets. If you are a big fan, as I am go for it!. Otherwise, this album is Excellent and you don't have to feel like you missed those (4) extra tracks.Divide (Deluxe Version)
