Publisher Description

The critically acclaimed authors of I'll Be Seeing You return with a riveting tale of two sisters, set in the intoxicating world of New York City during the Roaring Twenties.

Ivy and Rose Adams may be sisters, but they're nothing alike. Rose, the eldest, is the responsible one, while Ivy is spirited and brazen. After the unexpected death of their father, the women are left to reconcile the estate, when they make a shocking discovery: not only has their father left them in financial ruin, but he has also bequeathed their beloved family house to a brother they never knew existed. With only a photograph to guide the way, Ivy and Rose embark to New York City, determined to find this mysterious man and reclaim what is rightfully theirs.

Once in New York, temptations abound at every turn, and soon the sisters are drawn into the glitzy underbelly of Manhattan, where they must overcome their differences and learn to trust each other if they're going to survive in the big city and find their brother. Filled with unforgettable characters and charm, Empire Girls is a love letter to 1920s New York, and a captivating story of the unspoken bond between sisters.

Good story, terrible fact checking

Historical novels are wonderful and often a way to learn about history while being entertaining. This book, while a nice story, had so many blatant historic inaccuracies the writing was distracting. 1920s New York, 2 sisters on a quest that ultimately brings them closer and everyone gets what makes them happy. The author needs to understand that in order to love the characters, we need to trust the writing. First, the term Ms. Was not even a term until the 1970s, and yet the author refers to Ms. Adams in both speaking narrative and a letter's address. The term Dumpster was used in approx 1924 in the book when that word wasn't even around until the late 1930s. Finally the grammar was that of the 1960s when it became ok to end a sentence with a preposition. No lady in the 1920s would ever say "Where is she at."little"things? Maybe. But as they compounded and got more common, I realized the writing is unchecked, sloppy and I could barely finish the book. If you can't have decent fact checkers, write about the time period you know and leave historical fiction to those who have the integrity to get it right.
