    Asus PG278QR vs Asus PG279QR

    Asus PG278QR vs Asus PG279QR
First off I own both of these monitors. Second, don't be cheap and buy either of these monitors refurbished. My other PG279QR died after a year and half of use so I replaced it with the PG278QR. Learn from my mistake. I have both of these monitors sitting side by side on my desk and honestly I like them both for different reasons, as you can see below...PG278QQRPros -*Sharp image.*Fast response time 1ms.*Overclockable to 165Hz.*No dead pixles.*Easy to use menu.*Easy setup. It comes assembled. Pull it out of the box, put it on your desk, connect the cables.*Package includes Display Port, HDMI, and USB cables.*Built in USB hub.*Rotates 90 degrees if you need a monitor to do that....Cons -*Way too bright for dim/dark rooms even with brightness turned down to 50.*Color reproduction sucks. Color looks milky, kind of washed out.*TN panel not IPS panel like PG279QR.*Blue light filter actually makes the image look worse. If you're that concerned about blue light, wear blue light glasses.*Speakers are a bad idea in a gaming monitor. Seriously Asus who uses monitor speakers anymore? Gamers use headsets or desktop speakers. Isn't ROG about being built by gamers for gamers? Lose the effing speakers!*Black level is terrible. PG279QR has better blacks. It's like the difference between HDR and non HDR black levels.*Stupid red LED graphic on the monitor base.*Included software sucks.PG279QRPros -*Sharp image.*Fast response time 1ms.*Overclockable to 165Hz.*No dead pixles.*Easy to use menu.*Easy to setup. It comes assembled. Pull it out of the box, put it on your desk, connect the cables.*Package includes Display Port, HDMI, and USB cables.*Built in USB hub.*Better color reproduction than PG278QR.*Better viewing angle than PG278QR.*IPS panel instead of TN panel.Cons -*IPS panel glow at the edges*Same stupid built in speakers like the PG278QR*Same stupid red LED graphic on the monitor base as the PG278QR*Certificate and profile installation can be tricky if you have no idea what that is.*Included software sucks. Just no other way of putting that.If you buy either of these monitors refurbished, and I warned you not too, Asus will basically tell you to take a long walk off a short pier if you try to have them repair it. They refuse to RMA, even if you want to pay to have them fix it. I can't stress this enough. DO NOT BUY REFURBISHED. Clear enough? The picture shows both monitors. The monitor on the right as you are looking at it is the PG278QR. Notice it looks kind of greyish brown? That's the color difference. Both monitors are set to the same color, brightness and contrast leves. The PG279QR just has a better color to it. That's the difference with IPS and TN panels.
