Excellent Purchase Just Like Brand New!
I really enjoy my Echo Plus and to be totally honest, I forgot it was refurbished. You cannot tell this at all. Arrived packaged very well, no scratches, dents or marks and works extremely well just like new . I have it in my office daily and use it to play music when our family has a cookout. The silver color is highly recommended!! Beautiful polished look that makes a terrific addition to any room in the home! Unless you tell someone it is refurbished/reconditioned, no one cannot tell the difference!

I bought this as my 3rd or 4th Echo, at a fantastic discounted price, because it was "refurbished." As a gadgeteer and nerd with more than 50-years of training and experience in electronics, I can affirm that I am convinced that Amazon's refurbished items are BETTER than new! (in the sense that they are ofttimes greatly discounted in price, but also the refurbished products often seem to get a better going-over and quality-control inspection ... not to mention less annoying packaging ... than provided by the original manufacturer). Amazon lives by advertising, but I appreciate the absence of it in/on the simple packaging of the refurbished products ... their marketing folks will never be able to fathom old-farts like me who are contrarian and HATE advertising ... so they are probably thinking they don't want to "brand" their fine Amazon name on "used" goods ... heee heee ... probably a good idea for Millenials ... but they subsidized half the cost of this Echo with their fixation on "new"). Leaving aside any further perambulations about marketing, I do consider this refurbished Echo as "better than new" ... having gotten TWICE the attention from QC as a new one ;) It looks and works like new. I have never encountered a problem from any of the refurbished Amazon electronics items I have purchased. I highly recommend taking advantage of the HUGE price break on this and other of their refurbished products!

Ok Im young but I dont get electronics very easily, too many wire, conviluted set up directions, not with Alexa, super simple to set up. Now the built in hub kinda tricked me, while having that built in has saved me money on a few items Id still need to buy a bridge for said "Product XYZ....." in order to gain full access to its all its options/setting. I thought a hub was a bridge but it is not. Now that doesnt mean you cant still set up Alexa with those products. Its still super easy you just dont get all the potential settings.
Now on to a rant. So I think couples counsiling might be appropriate for her and I, cause she just hears what she wants to hear. Now Im from east Texas, but I dont have that thick accent, slow drawl, or a twang to my speech. At least not sober. Regardless, I could be speaking right all up on her/it and she/it is just gone, always on break. I just need to learn how to speak technology. Oh but heres something super creepy, Alexa will whisper back to you, it so weird and it makes me laugh. She/it whispered my entire flash briefing this morning. It was a lot and very 2001 Space Odyssey "Good morning Dave" - ish.
Moving on, mine was refurbished; couldn't tell, looked brand new. Sound quality is superb for a speaker its size in my opinion, you're not going to be getting a full audio submersive experience you'll need tweeters and sub-woofers (plural) for that experience. I'd still give it more stars though cause it helps me out with quick math problems, conversions and ingredient substitutes on the fly.

Packaged to survive rough handling and delivered in pristine condition. Indistinguishable from new. I'm fond of the volume ring feature on my 1st Gen Echo so I had no qualms ordering another, but was a little unsure about having only the white color option. Turns out it looks really sharp in my kitchen! Great quality sound even in a large room, and amazing voice recognition and response, as usual. I liked this refurbished Gen 1 Echo Plus so much-especially the price-that I ordered another. Lots of enjoyment for the money.

I saw that these were on sale during the big sale and decided that I would dive into the voice command thing. It arrived and looks brand new. Set up was super easy. I put it in the kitchen (to replace and clock radio that honestly I hate - reception sucks and it doesn't keep time - you had TWO JOBS and you failed at both) which is the room farthest away from our wireless AP. It connected easily and responds to almost all commands well - there have been a few funny mishaps, but nothing major. I like that I can ask it to play NPR and stream my amazon playlists (but don't love that I can't listen to two devices at the same time), it pairs with the phones we all have and we can use them to stream music from other sources. I am not sure that we will ever invest in "smart home" devices to make full use of all that is offered, but so far it's been fun to have. I am sure there is more I could be doing with it, but for now it responds and the sound quality is very good.

I use this one as my living room music device since I can use alexa to connect to news, tunein radio stations, or bluetooth from my phone from iheart radio (or whatever else I would play on my phone). The audio is more clean sounding in the plus versus the regular echo, to my ears at least. I use the regular echo in another room (and a spot in the bedroom), and the plus seems to have more bass without muddying up the treble. Not bass like "vibrate" bass, but the real type that accentuates music. If the echo will be used for mostly music, then the plus is great. If it will be used for back and forth talking to alexa, and talk radio then it's a toss up between the two. (at no point does it become worse)

All that being said, it does have a wifi hub built-in, but since I already have 2 or 3 of those (using 1) there's no need to use that and I'm not sure how well it works.

I will say that setting it up initially wasn't terribly easy for me and it wouldn't join up with the "hidden" network properly. Once I made it visible (and I reset the device), it was a bit easier. After configuration, I have all of the echo devices in a group called "everywhere" and play news or music across all echo devices through the house by playing to the "everywhere" group.
