As for what I intended to use it for, I recently got a Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 (a rather expensive but highly capable Android tablet that can in some cases replace the need for a PC, similarly to how a Microsoft Surface can), and it supports USB C PD charging of up to 30W. When I am not using that tablet away from my computer desk, I leave it plugged into this charger 24/7, using an Anker 10 foot USB C to USB C charging cable (I went overkill on the cable, it supports USB C PD up to 100 watts, but hey at least I won't have to buy another cable until this one wears out).
Additionally, I use this charger to charge many other things using the additional USB type A charging ports, at the same time as the tablet is plugged in. Things I have charged with these ports are USB battery banks (I have 2 Anker battery banks, one "PowerCore+ 26800 PD model A1375", and one "PowerCore+ 20100 USB-C model A1371", both charging as expected), a Bluetooth wireless headset, several Streamlight flashlights, and even my Xbox One controller (that I use with my PC but can also sync with my tablet via Bluetooth if I want to play mobile games with a controller, something that actually works more often than you'd think).
Of course, this charger is NOT very compact, and really only makes sense either as something you mount somewhere near a desk semi-permanently using the included Velcro patch, or if you want a one-stop charging solution for pretty much whatever you can think of that needs USB power or charging. I have 2 older Anker chargers that have USB C outputs that do not support USB PD, and I use one of them when I go on vacation to keep my Nintendo Switch, the tablet I mentioned, the USB battery banks, the Xbox One controller, and the wireless headphones all fully charged. The advantage is that since my use case means I need a lot of USB charging cables all feeding power at the same time, it takes up less space than a bunch of "single or double output" mains-voltage chargers. The disadvantage is that if you only need one or two USB charging cables at a time, you would probably be better served by a different Anker product that would end up taking up less room than this charger (and it's power cord).
Now I mentioned in the title that there's a caveat, and that it's tiny.
It's tiny because it will only effect you if you have USB powered analog audio equipment.
The only thing that I have that is powered by USB that does NOT play nice with this charger is my USB powered audio mixer (a tiny little thing that supports just 2 3.5mm stereo audio sources being mixed into one 3.5mm stereo audio output, and capable of being powered by either USB or 2 AAA batteries, so maybe this is more the fault of the mixer's power input circuitry and not the charger, which is another reason why I think this is such a minor issue), and the effect of them not playing nice is not "total equipment failure" in any case. It's merely a small electrical interference issue.
When that audio mixer is powered by this charger, the mixer's audio output will have a very easily detectable "electronic sounding noise" or buzz on the output. It is not simple "white noise" or the characteristic 60hz "hum" of a ground loop, instead the sound is a very characteristic and "sharp" buzz (most certainly not a "pure tone" not even a square triangle or sawtooth wave adequately describes it).
No amount of ground loop isolators placed on both inputs and outputs of the audio mixer would eliminate the noise, and the noise remained when all I had connected to the audio mixer was a pair of analog headphones (in other words the mixer was driving the headphones directly, which it is rated to do, with no inputs connected, and the buzz remained). Switching to a different source of USB power did eliminate the buzz, thereby confirming that this charger was indeed the source of the noise.
However, since I had left the previous multi-port Anker charger (similar to this one, but not supporting USB PD) in place on my desk and plugged in to my surge protector, I merely connected just the audio mixer to that charger, and all was well.
Yes it's expensive, but it was worth the money, as USB PD chargers with higher power were both not needed and often don't have enough ports, and the minor issue I encountered is something I'm willing to forgive because well USB power supplies aren't really known for being "audio-grade power" in the first place.
Pros:
- 30w PD from the USB C port (USB C to C cable needed) fast charges all my devices
- You can charge your Nintendo Switch in handheld mode from the USB C port with a C to C cable
- two cable ties included in box, nice for cable management and for keeping things neat when traveling with it
- 6 foot power cable allows you to mount or place the charger in a convenient location, and power cable doesn't block other outlets on your wall plate or power strip
I really wanted it so I could fast charge my Pixel 2 XL (mostly at work) and also my Nintendo Switch in handheld mode (when on the go/away from home and from the dock). The PD port is nice to have at home too since, even if you only have 20 minutes, you can fast charge while getting ready to go out and have sufficient charge to get you back home later. Like most new devices nowadays, my Pixel 2 XL will rapidly charge up to 80% battery in only 20 minutes. It'll especially come in handy when I have guests over since I live in an older apartment and finding enough outlets for everyone to charge their phones can be annoying. With this, I can plug it in somewhere close-by and everyone will be able to charge their phones at the same time. The specs state you can charge some laptops with it as well, up to 13" or so, via the USB C port. Make sure you double check what your laptop needs before trying it. If I still had my ASUS Chromebook, this thing would be able to charge it.
I can't really say anything negative about this product. It's a bit bulky to carry around but if you're like me, you probably have a large backpack, so this is a non issue. It's not marketed as a travel charger, but it's easy enough to take with you if you need to. For me, the 6ft cable to the hub makes it a great travel charger despite its bulkiness because I can plug in anywhere even if the wall outlet isn't in the most convenient location, and I charge all my devices with it. It's also the only charger I'll need to carry with me, so even though it's bigger, it sure beats having to carry around three or even four different chargers. And seriously, you can't go wrong with PD. Once you go USB C/PD there's no going back.
This charger is the same awesome quality I have come to expect from Anker. If you're in need of an all-in-one USB C PD and USB A multiport hub, this is the one to get.

ORIGINAL: This seemed like a well-built product. Unfortunately, it is unusable. I only had my laptop charging (the other 4 USB ports were not in use) and it only went from 28% to 32% over the course of an hour while I was using it (it was connected to an external monitor). That's not going to cut. I switched to another brand (Aukey's 60W) and that charged MUCH faster. Love Anker and I am currently using their USB-C cable to charge my computer as I write this review but they missed the mark by limiting the USB-C port on this charger to only 30W--that's not enough juice.
