The introduction depicts a harrowing scene I found tough to push through. These guys don’t do easy so I wasn’t surprised but gee, this guy deserved a break! I shouldn’t have stressed of course, he has demonstrated his resilience and strength on numerous occasions prior and he didn’t lose his endurance when he was faced with accepting the harsh card fate had dealt him.
He had been on borrowed time for years, so he wasn’t surprised at the nightmare he was living in but it was not how he had pictured his last moments. It was an observation rather than a disappointment on his part. This was the price to pay for letting his guard down.
Revenge drives the drama from several angles in the first part of Syn’s story. The mystery feeds into the suspense as does the complicated romance evolving between Syn and Iris. Syn exudes pheromones I am sure surfaced continuously. The minimal scenes where he used his charm on Iris were limited but there was never any doubt on their attraction to each other. His promise to have her reach an orgasm in less than three minutes followed by his willingness to continue ravishing her until she tapped out was one of the hottest scenes I have read!
Iris came across a softer than I expected. She was every bit as strong as I imagined she would be and she faced the confrontations that came her way in stride. I thought the combination of warmth and determination in her admirable and as such I was right behind her being with Syn. The impression I picked up from other character’s reactions to Syn being with her echoed my surprise, adding to the credibility of the plot. I blame my misconceptions on the impromptu knife throwing demonstration she provided when we first met her.
The mercenaries can never switch off without their handler calling them to yield his power and Syn was no exception. United they present a formidable force field of unquestionable control to all who they stand before. Knowing Syn needs to deal with the Wraith once and for all he is given a short reprieve to end the threat they pose to him and Iris. Efficiency I’m sure is the middle name of each of the mercenaries Syn works with and it was refreshing he chose to use teamwork to help with the threat that had hung over him for far too long.
The ending was not a cliffhanger, rather a time to inhale and consider the chessboard and contemplate the next move. After all, a gauntlet has been thrown down and he was determined his victory was his to take. I can feel the pieces of this puzzle locking into place, the final picture of what we will see still a mystery. Syn’s story was worth the wait, exceeding my expectations and delivered the book buzz I anticipated.

The best part of reading London’s work is it only gets better as each book comes out; Syn and Iris are two people that will melt your heart, two souls that found each other when “love” was not even on the radar.
Let’s start with Syn he is my favorite mercenary, strong, cocky, very full of himself on the outside, he prefers to be alone and has only really cared for 1 person Winter, he has so many layers to him and has to fight inter demons all the time. He use indifference as a shield, and his past life with the wraiths has now come back to haunt him.
Iris is one bad a** bounty hunter, she was disillusioned at a very young age which drove her to righting the wrongs, giving her a personal vendetta that has consumed her to the point of no life just revenge. She is sassy, strong, smoking hot but also she has a fragile essence about her, no matter how many walls she has put up you can still feel compassion coming from her.
These two together have given us a couple that just jumps off the pages, their banter and sexual chemistry is off the charts, they truly are the Ying and Yang of each other, they understand the fear that each feels because they feel the same way. It takes a very strong female to counter the craziness of Syn and Iris did it perfectly. We were lucky enough to have appearances of some of our favorite Den and Wild Bunch characters along with some new faces, Bear and When will be a couple I can’t wait to read more about.
While reading this story you get an excellent view of the past, some questions are answered while others are still coming into play, The KingMaker like always has plans in motion for the coming battle. London has outdone herself by writing this story, because she left us so very intrigued on what’s to come.
I was honored to receive this as an ARC, but loved it so much I bought one to share, Syn and Iris are bringing in 2018 with love, murder and mayhem. Perfect
I would have liked a little more development in their relationship especially clarification over Iris' feelings about Winter but I'm hoping we get that aspect in Iris' book. Bravo! 4.5 stars! ~Ratula
This book made my heart bleed. What Syn had to go through as a child....what made him the man he is today.....
He is the boogeyman, and you won’t see him coming until its too late.
The minute Syn has Iris in his clutches, she becomes his undoing. The cold collected man’s dead black heart starts beating once more. As they grow close, Iris see’s the man behind the mask, hidding his pain.... trying to feel something... anything.
Syn by London Miller is a dark, gritty, nail bitting romance novel. It’s dark, ugly, and crazy... but beautiful all at the same time. This is a story that will stay with you long after you finish reading the very last page.
I can’t wait for the conclusion to Syn and Iris’s story. I’m on the edge of my seat, clutching my tablet hoping that nothing bad happens to my BAE Syn. 🖤
