Sunkissed Days by Samatha Chase is a prequel to her new series and while I did enjoy it, I was disappointed that it ended in a cliffhanger I wasn’t expecting. After years of crushing on the boy next door, 20 year old Mallory Westbrook is ready to make a move on Jake Summerford and while he resists at first, the more time they spend together the more he realizes how important she is to him. This was young love with her being 20 and him being 24 and him on the cusp of realizing his dreams of finally going to college. It was romantic infatuation with some real feelings, but the timing being off. The town of Magnolia Sound intrigues me as does the Westbrook family and I think this will be another good series by Ms. Chase, but with Mallory and Jake’s story was left unfinished I felt let down by this author. Overall, if you like Samantha Chase’s sweet romances then you’ll no doubt enjoy this prequel, but if you want a finished story then you might want to wait until the next book is out before reading this one.

Sunkissed Days is the prequel to a brand new series by Samantha Chase. It gives us a look into the things that happened between Mallory and Jack six years before the start of the first official novel, Remind Me, in the Magnolia Sound series.

My main issue with the prequel was how it read as a young adult novel to me. I love young adult novels to bits, so that’s not a shot at YA, don’t worry. It’s more that if I’m reading a book marketed as your average adult contemporary romance about a 20 year old and 24 year old, I’m not expecting them to act 15.

Mallory was playing games like a high schooler trying to get Jake’s attention and it kind of bothered me. Also her reaction at the end of the novel. You cannot convince me that girl is 20 and not 15.

The story line was interesting as a whole, and I’m looking forward to reading Remind Me when it comes out. I do want to know how their lives have progressed. And let’s be real, I want to read more about Zeke because that man is the wisest old guy you’ll ever read about.

Jake has some self control, well...sort of, “no more …walking around… like this,” he panted between kisses. “Makes… me… crazy.” This was actually a great introduction to a start of what seems like a great new series.

I am never a huge fan of novellas, but since the library had it, I thought I would do this series in order. There was nothing wrong with this book, and I believe, when I read book 1, it will become more meaningful for me, but I just didn't feel like I got enough from it. But, that is usually how I feel about novellas.

I do think the book lived up to its name, and I found myself swept up in the lazy days and sweet summer romance. It was great spending time at the NC beaches, and I really liked getting acquainted with these characters, especially the grandfather, who just seems like the best kind of human.

This might not have blown me away, but it has left me curious to catch up with Jake and Mallory, and see what happened after that summer of sunkissed days.

I received a copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. My thoughts and opinions are my own. Any quotes I use are from an unpublished copy and may not reflect the finished product.

Sunkissed Days was a lovely book! I adored all of the characters, especially Pops. He's my new favorite fictional grandpa (and great-grandpa). He's a sweet old man that has lived a very eventful and fulfilling life, and we see how he has impacted the lives of his family and community. Pops also shares a special relationship with his great-granddaughter, Mallory, and the boy next door, Jake. They've both played prominent roles in his life, and he cares about them and their futures. This story really warmed my heart, and made me miss my own grandfather. Zeke (short for Ezekiel and also Pops) was witty and seemed to always know what was going on.

Mallory and Jake have known each other for years, so it wasn't exactly insta-love, but it was close. Jake briefly resisted the attraction, because the four-year age difference had mattered in the past, but quickly succumbed to his emotions and desires (not that Mallory made it easy for him). Mallory has had a crush on Jake for years, and now she's finally old enough to do something about it. I appreciated her boldness and honesty, and really enjoyed the two of them together. They respected one another, and their interactions were sweet and frequently steamy. It was nice watching the two develop their friendship in addition to their romance.

Everything was going really well for Jake and Mallory at the beginning, so I expected them to hit a snag eventually. Unfortunately, I disliked that this particular roadblock could have been solved with more communication. A lack of communication and conversation always bugs me, especially when they've been really open and honest throughout the rest of the book. They shared their secrets, fears, and desires, but when a misunderstanding happens they just don't talk about it. It was heartbreaking, but avoidable. Also, Jake took stubborn to an entirely new level. I really wish he had accepted Pops' help from the start and avoided a slew of other problems, but his pride prevented him from accepting a kind gesture.

There were also a few inconsistencies, but that's likely my review copy and things have been changed since I received it. Mallory would be out on the deck, but then sit down on her bed. At the beginning, Sam pushed the final chair up to the table, but a few sentences later Jake added the last chair -- stuff like that. It's like an itch my brain cannot scratch, so I thought it was worth mentioning.

I was also really curious about Sam! He's Mallory's twin (and I'm weirdly obsessed with books about twins) and seemed really nervous and on edge for most of the book. Clearly something was going on, and I was anxious to find out what it was. I enjoyed the subtle side-stories that surrounded Mallory and Jake. The entire family was fun and felt authentic!

Sunkissed Days was a wonderful prequel to a series I'm really excited to read! The ending was a little hard to choke down, but I understand it's setting up the next book. If Remind Me is anything like this one (minus the painful ending), I'll be a very happy camper.

There’s really nothing quite like the youth and innocence of a first love. Mallory and her twin brother, Sam, have been friends with Jake Summerford for years, always picking up where they left off the previous summer when they return to their great grandfather's place on Magnolia Sound. But the summer after Mallory turns twenty, Jake sees her in a whole new light, and even the fact that he’s Sam's best friend and four years older than Mallory can’t keep him from acting on his new feelings. For Mallory, it’s been a long time coming, because she's had a crush on Jake most of her life.

The small beach community of Magnolia Sound is one of those fictional places I would make my permanent home, if possible. I adore the Westbrook family, but especially Pops, the family patriarch who makes me wish immortality were possible, even in contemporary romance. The setting is vivid and the characters colorful, inviting the reader to immerse herself in this delightful story.

Sunkissed Days is the beginning of Jake and Mallory's story and covers one glorious summer of them falling in love and capturing every possible moment of time together before reality intrudes and they both leave Magnolia Sound for college. Chase captures the sweet innocence of their young love through her writing style and by leaving the details of intimate encounters to the reader's imagination. This beautifully written, poignant story will whet your appetite for the rest of Jake and Mallory's journey to forever, which we'll get in Remind Me. You’ll be happiest if you read these two books together, and I have no doubt you’ll love these characters as much as I do!

What a sweet and heartwarming prelude to Jake and Mallory's full HEA journey. This is their meet, and although it reads as a full story, it isn't, because ... well ... it just isn't LOL Read an you shall find out. It reads like a prologue but I can see why Samantha Chase wanted it to be read as a separate/on its own book. Most prologues are short, a moment in time if you will. This is more than a moment. It's a moment that develops ... and then things happen.

The story has all of Samantha's stamps on it :) It's fun and flirty and sexy and full of heart. I was thinking as I read it what a perfect first time read this would make to readers who have never had a taste of her work. So if you come across this review and you've never read her work, #ONECLICK! It just might hook you! :)

Sunkissed days is a prequel story to Remind me and it's book 0.5 in a brand new series by Samantha Chase.

The events of this story happen 6 years before the main story when Mallory and Jake are still young and everything is good. I would have preferred to give them a happy ending by the end of this book and continue the series with other people. I really liked them together and I am kind of dreading to see what happened to them during these years. I just hope that drama won't be the main element of book one. I have hope in the author though.

The story is an introduction to the characters and their background and it was good. I will certainly read the full-length book. This one might be short but it got me invested in the series.

It’s always exciting to start a new series, and if SUNKISSED DAYS, the prequel to the future Magnolia Sound series by Samantha Chase, is any indication, this one is going to be great! This novella introduces us to Mallory Westbrook who grew up visiting her great-grandfather every summer in Magnolia Sound. She has always had a crush on her great-grandfather’s neighbor, Jake Summerford, but since Jake was a few years older than Mallory, he didn’t see her as anything more than a shy tomboy. This summer was different, however, as Jake and Mallory suddenly find themselves in the middle of an intense summer fling. But is it more than that? Can their feelings for each other last through several misunderstandings and plans that have them headed in different directions at the end of the summer? A perfect lead-in to the first novel in the series.
As always in a Samantha Chase story, the characters are strong and complex. Jake and Mallory are no exception. The secondary characters, especially the great-grandfather add interest and depth. While there is certainly nothing new about the initial plot, older guy falls in love with younger tomboy next door, there are enough twists, turns and unanswered questions to keep the readers involved and wanting more.
Samantha Chase has given us several delightful series in the past, most notably the Montgomerys and the Shaughnesseys, and from this preview, I think we have another great series to look forward to. Thank you, Samantha Chase!
I voluntarily read an Advanced Reader Copy of this book and the views expressed are my honest opinions.

GAH! The ending of this story of first love left my heart bleeding for Jake and Mallory for the choices they made and the misunderstandings that happen when you eavesdrop where you shouldn't. Enough said in that little spoiler. This is the prequel to this authors next book and let me say I wish I already had it in my hands! Jake is 4 years older than Mallory and always thought of her as the kid who showed up to visit a couple times a year, that is until he got an eyeful of her this summer. Mallory has grown up and blossomed. She has always had a crush on Jake but this summer she is staying in Magnolia Sound to help her great-grandfather Zeke with the Coleman house and grounds before she goes back to college. Watching Jake and Mallory find their way and watching their love blossom was beautiful and knowing their are roadblocks and real life standing in their way they need to get past was heartbreaking. Communication! Needed to happen. That's all I'm saying. Read this one! Their full story is coming soon!

5 Perfect Start to a New Series Stars

There’s nothing I love more than starting a new series and this prequel to Ms. Chase’s Magnolia Sound series hit all the right buttons for me. This is where we learn what we’re in store for with this series AND we get the beginnings of a second chance love story between Mallory and Jake.

Mallory has returned home to Magnolia Sound after a few years away and she runs into her old crush Jake but she’s so much more than the tomboy he remembers, and the chemistry is burning bright between them.

This book is filled with all the things I love about this author, humor, a chemistry that can’t be denied and a not so smooth love story with lots of family involvement. I mean it can’t be that simple can it? There’s a definite pull between these two, but at the end of the Summer Mallory has to return to school and leave Jake behind. And just when I thought it was going to be a different story, BAM! Ms. Chase throughs something at us that I really wasn’t expecting and now I REALLY need Remind Me because we’re going to get the full story!!!

Samantha Chase is amazing. She takes realistic characters, gives them real life and then makes the reader become invested in their lives. This is Mallory and Jakes story. They are both young, in their 20’s, been friends forever and are now feeling the attraction between them. What used to be a childhood crush has developed into real feelings with the potential for broken hearts.

I was cheering for Mallory from the very first page. She came back to Magnolia Sound to celebrate her great grandfather’s birthday but also to show Jake that she is all grown up. She took her life into her own hands, turn it into a life that she loved, and was showing her strength by not sitting back and waiting for Jake to notice her. The strength, the self-esteem, and the lack of fear in going for what she wants making her someone I would like my daughters to look up to.

This is a fun, easy, short book. It is the start of a new series on books from Samantha Chase.

A great start to a new series by Samantha Chase. This is a prequel that will leave you wanting so much more. Mallory has returned to Magnolia Sound for the summer to spend time with her great grandfather. Her main goal of the summer is to run into Jake, her teenage crush and to prove to him that she has grown up. Jake soon realizes that Mallory is all grown up and can't resist her. Will this just be a summer romance or will it lead into so much more.

Loved this story!! Great characters with so much chemistry that will leave you smiling. I can't wait to read Remind Me on March 12!! I highly recommend!!

Marvelous Prequel! Sunkissed Day is the prequel novel for Samantha Chase’s new Magnolia Sound series. The bulk of the story revolves around Mallory and her girlhood crush turned summer lover Jake but we’re also introduced to her twin brother and cousins and his town. There are some great little nuggets that I think hint at future books, beyond the obvious book one resolution to Mallory and Jake’s story, I’m looking at you Sam and the pastor moment and Cousin Parker and her bff!
This prequel was originally released in Chase’s newsletter so if you’ve already read kick back and wait a few weeks for book one to release but if you haven’t then dive and fall in love with Magnolia Sound and start the Mallory and Jake journey that concludes in Remind Me, book one.

A charming prequel!

Fair warning, this prequel will definitely leave you wanting the next book in the series immediately, but it's SO worth the back story between Mallory and Jake. Love is the last thing that either of them are looking for, especially knowing they're both leaving for college at the end of the summer, but it doesn't stop how they feel. I especially loved Zeke and can't wait to see how the story plays out in Remind Me!

Such a fun way to kick of a series with some fun, flirting, and love. Samantha Chase knows how to set the tone. Sunkissed Days is a new favorite of mine. I just loved Mallory and Jake. Mallory was an ordinary girl growing up but had a thing for Jake and he never paid her any mind. Their summer together turned from friends to lovers. What a great way yo set the ton for this new series Magnolia Sound.

Sunkissed Days by Samantha Chase is a quick prelude to Mallory and Jake’s full story. Sunkissed Days is the beginning of Mallory making a move on Jake, which results in them making the most of their summer romance. It’s just an introduction, if you will, but once you read Sunkissed Days, you will be begging for their full story. It’s full of heat and sweet moments and I can’t wait to read more!

I read this book thinking that it was simply a novella to start off the series so the ending gave me whiplash. I usually check the whole series before starting it, but I just happened not to in this case. If I did I probably wouldn’t have picked it up to be honest. The communication issue train is chugging swiftly along in this one. ¯\(ツ)/¯

Sunkissed Days is a novella that is a prequel to Remind Me. It tells the story of Mallory and Jake when they were younger and how they got together. It was a cute story with a heartbreaking cliff hanger ending. It did get me excited to read the next book to see if they could repair their relationship. The best part about this novella was the relationship between Mallory and her grandfather as well as his relationship with Jake. IT was so endearing and a joy to read.

I detest cliff hangers!!! I would not have read/listened to this book if I had known. With that said, I liked the characters and the plot, so I only took 1 star for the part I hated. The narrator is excellent as usual. Happy reading/listening!

••••••••••••

REVIEW: SUNKISSED DAYS is the prequel novella in Samantha Chase’s contemporary, adult MAGNOLIA SOUND romance series. This is twenty-four year old construction worker Jake Summerford, and twenty year old college student Mallory Westbrook’s story line.

NOTE: SUNKISSED DAYS was originally released as a newsletter serial

Told from dual third person perspectives (Mallory and Jake) SUNKISSED DAYS takes the reader back in time, six years earlier, where we are privy to the summer time relationship between twenty-four year old construction worker Jake Summerford, and twenty year old college student Mallory Westbrook. Home for the summer in Magnolia Grove, to celebrate her great-grandfather’s ninetieth birthday, Mallory comes face to face with Jake Summerford, four years her senior, and the young man on whom she has crushed for most of her life. Taking the first steps towards getting the man that she wants, Mallory makes the first move in what would prove to be a summer fling that will end in misunderstanding and broken hearts. What ensues is the quick building romance and relationship between Jake and Mallory, and the fall-out as their time together comes to an end as each heads in a different direction towards personal and professional goals.

SUNKISSED DAYS is a story of family, friendship, romance and love; struggle and acceptance, pride and heart. Samantha Chase pulls the reader into a passionate and emotional story of first love, broken hearts and painful good byes. The premise is engaging; the romance is sweet and sensitive; the characters are animated. SUNKISSED DAYS ends on a cliff hanger-you have been warned.

Anything by Samantha Chase I will never turn down. She is one of my favorite romance authors. Those who know me will think it's a bit odd that's she's one of my favorites since I normally love and adore New Age contemporary romance with steamy scene and alpha males or sassy heroines. Chase's style does have any of those. I still love the sweet, squeaky clean stories she gives her readers.

I received this novella from Chase's promotional team (their logo is posted at the end of the posting). I was not disappointed.

Mallory Westbrook has crushed on Jack Summerford since she was twelve years old. She decided that this year, she's going to make her move on him. Boy does she. She breaks out of her shy drooling from afar norm to asking Jake to help her. Help with his lips. Even after she captures Jake's attention, things are not as smooth as she hoped.

Jake has worked for Coleman Construction since he was a teen. Zeke and the entire Coleman family is like a second family to him. This is his last summer at the Magnolia Sound, he leaves for college in Colorado in the fall something he's put off for a few years. While at Zeke's 90th birthday celebration, Mallory caught his attention. She didn't have those curves last summer when she came to visit her great grandfather. He knows that he's not the only man who's looking. At first, he tells himself to stay away because of the four year age difference or how Zeke is his mentor or...or...yeah he doesn't buy any of his own excuses either which is why he he caves to her.

Both of them are leaving in the fall, can they do a long distance relationship?

Can their relationship survive?

This novella does NOT end with a HEA. It is a novella prequel to Remind Me, where their story is concluded. It is a nice introduction to the characters.

Given ARC for honest review.

This is the first book that I have read by Samantha Chase and I was definitely left intrigued about what will happen between Mallory and Jake.

I am a sucker for second chance romance and Sunkissed Days, which seems to be the start of a new series by Samantha Chase, was such a cute introduction to the story of Mallory and Jake. Mallory has a huge crush on Jake, who happens to be her great-grandfather's neighbor, and on the day that her family is celebrating his 90th birthday she final decides to make her move.

Things don't go as planned for Mallory at first, Jake has this internal battle with himself, but Mallory knows what she wants and will not back down without a fight. What's meant to be will be and after coming to his senses Jake and Mallory begin a very intense and heated summer love. They both have obstacles that they need to overcome before the summer comes to a end and they both question whether their relationship will lead to something long term.

Just when things get good the story takes a twist and leaves you with wanting to know more about what will happen between Jake and Mallory. Samantha gives you a snippet of where the story goes in Remind Me, 6 years have passed and you are given an idea of what Jake and Mallory have done in that time. The first few pages of Remind me is such a tease and I need to know how will Mallory and Jake work out their differences and stubbornness, I need to know about Pops and I need to know about Sam, Mallory's twin brother, throughout Sunkissed Days you get the feeling that something is going on with him also but you don't know what.

I can't wait to read more about the family from Magnolia Sound and see what else Samantha has in store for us.

I first got a look at this with Samantha's newsletter over the summer.  Let me tell you, this one had me excited to see the newsletter each week and I soaked in like a crazed kid.  I finally get to start a series of hers from the beginning.  I'm giddy like a kid at Christmas.

This series is going to be awesome if the start is anything to go by.  She has created this tight knit little community of Magnolia sound with a patriarch who is all out eccentric, loved, and revered by all.  He is grouchy, observant, and wise.  I'm hoping he will be the voice of reason in the community as she starts building relationships.  He does a great job of trying to advise the first two Mallory and Jake.  So suffice it to say, I loved all the characters in this one.

Mallory is a plucky young adult determined to make a play for her heartthrob no matter the obstacle.  She wants to know she at least tried to make him see her.  Which I loved.  She is old enough to have looked at things and knows what she wants and is fearless enough to try to get it.  Jake on the other hand has this manly idea that men know best and you don't share your feelings or your fears with others.  This makes him hardheaded and in my opinion and idiot.  This is one of the reasons I'm only giving this book 4 of 5 because their love story is hot and steamy, but he is doing everything he can to mess it up.

We leave this couple with a cliffhanger, which you would expect since it's only a prequel.  Good for us she has the next one releasing in a couple weeks.  The love story is exciting and hot even though you'll be mad at Jake in the end of this one.  Just wait, Samantha always delivers on a Happily Ever After.
