Product Description
For powerful steam and professional-quality results, turn to the Rowenta DW9280 SteamForce steam iron. The handheld iron’s integrated electronic steam pump delivers a substantial burst of vertical steam (up to 210g) and pushes up to 30% more steam into material (compared to steam irons with no pump), ensuring fast, effective removal of wrinkles from all types of fabrics. A handy LED digital display illuminates for linen, cotton, wool, silk, or nylon to indicate when the soleplate has reached the appropriate temperature for the selected fabric. The iron’s Microsteam stainless-steel soleplate provides 400 steam holes for even steam distribution and includes an ultra-thin silicate coating for scratch-resistant strength and nonstick gliding to protect even the most delicate of fabrics. A smart steam motion sensor turns off variable steam when the iron stops moving, conserving water and electricity. Even more, the iron’s precision tip makes easy work of maneuvering over collars, along seams, and in between buttons, and the precision-shot function allows for a concentrated shot of steam at the top of the soleplate tip. For safety and peace of mind, the iron shuts off automatically after 8 minutes if left unused in the upright position and after 30 seconds if tipped over or left in the horizontal position. Other highlights include one-touch controls, a cool spray mist for extra-stubborn wrinkles, an integrated anti-calcium system, and a self-clean system for long-lasting performance. From household linens to personal wardrobes, make a good impression with help from the Rowenta SteamForce steam iron. The anti-drip system helps prevent spitting and leaking when thermostat is on a low setting.

I nearly didn't buy this model because of people complaining about the trigger. I think it's really well designed and quite useful. You barely have to touch it to get a good amount of steam and it gives you incredible control. Given the large amount of steam that this thing produces you want it for safety as well as to prevent using up all your water too quickly. Also, you can really have at seams and wrinkles to your heart's desire. You can go through a full tank of water for a single item or once you become more efficient probably 3-5 items on a tank.
People also complained about the weight. It's not that noticeable. I almost thought that Amazon sent me the wrong thing because the unopened package felt so light. The glide plate on the iron is very smooth and you don't need to really lift the iron that often. The fine tip at the top is noticeably better than other irons at removing fine wrinkles in difficult areas. From using hotel irons, there are many simple, lightweight irons that have nice non-stick coatings and actually perform quite well. This iron is equally smooth and also has some sort of coating, so I don't feel like anything is missing. This iron may occasionally drip a small amount when using lots of steam, but it is nothing compared to the major dripping I've experienced in inexpensive hotel irons.
Rowena really pays attention to details. This iron has a specially designed solid and wide base so the iron is incredibly stable when resting upright. All my other irons would quickly wobble and come close to falling off the ironing board with the slightest movement of the ironing board. The cord is reasonably long - as long as my Shark.
Yes, the iron restarts in Wool mode after plugging it in, but it's a simple and quick click to Cotton. Warm-up from room temperature up is 5-10 seconds and you can already start ironing if needed. If the iron is already hot, 1850 watts will warm it up in just a couple seconds. My Shark at 1600 watts would sometimes blow my circuit breaker. This iron is very well controlled and while once or twice I might see my room lights instantaneously dim, it has extremely good voltage control and has not once blown my fuse. One minor issue is that the manual says to turn off the iron before unplugging - there is no off button except for auto-off, so I still have to resort to quickly pulling the plug like I would do with all my other irons.
Out of the box the iron looked perfectly new, but there were some minor calc deposits that were coming out. Not sure if this was from factory testing or what. A 3-min calc-clean cycle made it all go away completely.
Very well worth the $110 I spent. Ups my ironing for many years to come, noticeably improves my clothes over other irons, and the therapeutic benefit of this insanely good iron is worth every penny. Ignore all of the naysayers out there. This iron rocks!
UPDATE 5/22/2020. I've used this a couple times since I got it. Today, I lifted the door to put the water in and the plastic near the hinge snapped......not very happy right now. Especially considering that the one I had lasted almost 27 year.......
UPDATE 5/28/2020. Well, it's going back for sure. When the water level drops below halfway, it buzzes really loudly. What a piece of junk. I don't have a warm fuzzy feeling about this iron, so it's return has been initiated and it will go back immediately. I think I'll just have a new cord installed on my one that lasted 26 years and 10 months and only failed due to my one time negligence.
UPDATE 5/30/2020. I actually really like the iron....and had decided to keep the first one and monkey rig it so I can use it. Hubby inserted a piece of something to reattach the door. Works pretty good...but I wanted one that was complete and to keep that as a backup. Second one comes with the same piece already broken, cover over the sole plate in pieces and clearly stuck back on haphazardly, and scuffs all over the sole plate. Guess I'm just going to get old faithful repaired with a new cord and keep the first broken one as a backup.....ugh
