The Original Series Star Trek Communicator
Bluetooth enabled prop replica collectible
This Communicator has been developed to give its owner the maximum level of enjoyment; designed using extremely accurate 3D scans of one of the last remaining communicator hero props from the 1960s Original Series television show, dedicated attention to detail, the use of authentic materials, textures and finishes and the tireless support and extraordinarily deep knowledge of HeroComm so generously given to us, has resulted in a fully functioning, display grade product that is highly faithful to the original prop.
The Communicator is robust enough to be used in play and cosplay. With its authentic sound effects and original voice clips, the Communicator provides plenty of opportunity for in-universe interaction and fun, and of course its Bluetooth functionality enables it to be used exactly as it was always intended – as a person-to-person communications device.

To address some obvious questions and comments from other reviews:
Sound quality: If you're really concerned about this, you're missing the point. Still, it's fair. Good for voice, less good for music (they do point out it's not optimized for this. Some folks complain about the volume, I found it fine, though just by a bit. So much depends on the audio signal in -- the google voice assistant voice is perfectly audible. Weak or quiet cell signal/audio input may not be something that can be compensated for on this device.
Buttons falling off: The buttons on mine seem firmly attached to their stems, but the stems wobble a bit, the only part I found anything less than rock solid about the communicator. Considering the 4-year square trade warranty on this is only $5 (as of today, at the $99 I picked up mine for), this is one of the rare situations I think the extended warranty is worth the spend. $5 guarantees your money back or a working communicator in your hands for nearly half a decade.
Bluetooth delay. Yup. Bluetooth can be a bit of a dumpster fire in general, and this device is susceptible to the protocol's limitations like any other. Sometimes it seems perfectly synced, other times it seems to be about a half second behind. Lag is not uncommon, but so much is out of any peripheral's hands, with phone hardware and software, current phone processor load, signal interference, etc. all impacting the signal performance. Maybe the manufacturers could have done more, maybe they couldn't have. But there is lag at times. The more 'extras' I close on my phone (GPS, background processes, etc.), the more reliable it seems.
The next logical evolution would be to introduce a companion app that allows some degree of customization, but it works perfectly well as-is.
Edit: I had a problem with my communicator, but the wand company ABSOLUTELY stood behind their product. Won't get into details because every case is different, but they came through big time, improving on the resolution I suggested. Would give ten stars if I could.
the Star Trek Original Series Communicator TO LIFE!!!
This worked straight out of the box almost fully charged!! And easily paired up to my iphone7+ via bluetooth. I bought the "communicator call beep" ringtone from the iTunes store for $1.29. Go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics > Ringtone > Store > Search > communicator call beep.
Once downloaded, set your Ringtone to Communicator Call Beep so that your communicator, when synced to your phone, will play the call beep.
Sounds are authentic. Flip gold metal antenna open as Kirk did so many times, and it makes "The SOUND" AND ANSWERS YOUR PHONE CALLS!!!
I opened this up and configured it the morning of ComicCon-SiliconValley-2017 and was taking phone calls (answering "Kirk Here" LOL) all day.
I was proud of my new device and showing it off at ComicCon.
Even William Shatner would have been jealous! Lol (which btw I got his autograph that day).
The feel of the metal, rugged, precision made, solid, durable!
This never feels like it will break.
I kept it in my pocket all day.
In addition, it is a Bluetooth speaker. So I played my favorite rave music on it all day as well!
Cheers to The Wand Company!
You guys rock!
*PRO*fessional craftsmanship, design, engineering all the way.
So impressed I was with this that I ordered the Phaser remote control immediately and it arrived in 1 day on a Sunday (ComicCon day 3)!
More:
- the magnetic charging base is awesome! (read the instructions for assembly steps. Simple)
- micro usb plug to charge, excellent
- volume of the communicator is controlled by your phone's volume
- chick magnet? No! Geek/nerd points? Yes!
- Childhood dream come true

What can I say? This is an exact replica of TOS communicator, only it works. Sure, it's just a bluetooth handset for your phone, but it's partially metal, its construction is pretty much perfect, it weighs what it should, and it works very well. The plastic parts are very robust and should last.
Pairing with your phone is just as simple as holding one of the buttons in. It gives you a great range of the actors from the show voicing "Sulu here". or "Spock here" type phrases. Once connected to your phone, you can use it to do any of the google voice commands, including making a phone call, or receiving one, reading a text or authoring one. It just too bad I can't replace the google voice on my phone with Majel Barrett Roddenberry's voice, that would truly be awesome.
I picked this unit up for about $160 here on Amazon, and it looks like I got the last one. The current price of about $199 is pretty much at the top of the scale where I would consider purchasing one. I wouldn't pay more than that.
I'm dying to find a reasonably priced phaser but I don't think I'm going to find one. I would add some pictures, but there are a ton of pictures above that are much better than what I could do. Rest assured those pictures are completely accurate compared to what you receive.
Edit
I found the phaser at a very reasonable price on a Canadian website (see my Amazon review). That was a month or so ago (Nov 2017).
Today, cruising Amazon, I see they are now offering the phaser for $200 Canadian. That's MUCH better than they were selling it for. At least a hundred bucks less. My purchase from a different website was $200 including shipping, but I would have no issue purchasing from Amazon at $200 CDN because of the protection you get shopping on Amazon.
I now have both the phaser and communicator. These are amazing replicas. I spoke to a rep from The Wand Company about the tricorder. She said they have discussed it, but are a little worried there may not be as much of a market for it. I think the tricorder would make an excellent bluetooth speaker. If you, like me, are interested in a high quality replica of the ST:TOS tricorder, don't hesitate to go to The Wand Company's website and email them to let them know. You can also follow them on Facebook to see if they decide to go ahead with this project.

1- as a trek prop this is the last word, having collected many such items this comes the closest you will to the (pardon the pun) real McCoy. It's presentation and finish are flawless imho - it's 'play' or 'role play' features are better than anything else I've seen with clearly some thought going into the voice and sound clips that have been installed. It's almost worth the money on this aspect alone and as a display item. First class
2- as a Bluetooth device there are better , but you could do worse. It's realistically a bit impractical for everyday use - however thanks to its stand I have found that as a desk based hands free device it's ideal - but it's only major performance flaw is the speaker. Volume is quite low and outside of very quite environments swiftly becomes hard to hear (though the mic seems good as callers reported I was still very clear at their end despite hearing all the background noise)
Pairing is easy though volum control and voice activation are a bit fiddly.
You can of course link and play your music through it too- but again this is better in a static situation like at your work desk.
Signal range is good.
It is not imho worth the money 'as' a Bluetooth device - but I think frankly this is a bonus feature to Star Trek fans who would clearly buy this for other reasons - thus I don't feel a lower score is warranted. This item is a fan collectible first and a phone tool second.
