I wanted to power my CPAP from my portable power station using the DC output at times when grid power wasn't available. I used COMMAND mounting tape to attach this converter to the PPS (portable power station). I bought the connector cables to connect the PPS DC output to the converter and the converter to my machine. I took it camping to try it out and verify it worked. The next morning I felt the converter and it wasn't warm at all. I also tried another converter that was smaller and didn't have the cooling fins and it worked good and got warm. Not alarming warm but it got warm. The advantages of using this one to me are: 1. When space around the bed when camping is limited. Using this I don't need the power brick which is bigger so I save space. 2. The DC input range is wide (9 to 20v) so if I use a PPS that doesn't have a regulated 12 VDC output I still get the 24 volts out that I need to power the CPAP, 3. Its not as pretty as a power brick but it was a fun and functional project to do.
This is going to work out well for my needs. I bought this to charge a battery pack the requires 14-40 volts DC to fully charge. This item is constructed well with aluminum heat sink. easy to hook up just make sure you connect the input where it says too which is clearly marked on the bottom of unit. I would also highly recommend putting an inline fuse on both the input and output. Also this is cast aluminum so don't over tighten the mounting screws that you use or you may crack the heat sink.
