Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.
I purchased this lens to use with a much newer digital camera. I did understand that the auto focus would not work. It also did not engage the metering and adjust the aperture either. It was just too much work to get a photo, so i returned it and purchased a similar newer used lens of another brand for not a whole lot more money.
I've had the AF Micro Nikkor 105mm f:2.8 D for many years since I shot film until about 6 months ago. With the F100 body this lens produced some local prize winning shots. Just got it out of storage and snapped it perfectly in place on my Nikon D5300 DSLR. Of course it can only be used manually, but the shots I took with it mounted on a digital were crisp, sharp and actually better than images with the F100 film body. If you enjoy manual for true micro, this is a steal at the price today. I've saved myself around a thousand bucks now that I don't have to have a digital lens. Also, I have the 60mm f:2.8 for film. It works flawlessly also. Happy camper here.
The optics were sharp, but the focus was very stiff. I had to use two hands, which isn't practical, esp. if you shoot video. Also, I didn't recall reading that the front might be dinged which makes it hard to put on a filter. I understand that the seller uses Fulfillment Through Amazon, but the shipping box was so damaged that the postal carrier waited to show us in person, so that he could encourage us to take a photo of it. It looked like it had been run over -- one half was totally crunched. Essentially, the box was much too big and there was very little puffing/padding, so it looks like a bigger/sturdier box than it is. The carrier said that things would like get stacked on top of it, and it can't take the weight. Several reviews complained about this problem -- I don't know why Amazon doesn't use more appropriately sized boxes. It's a small inside box, but the outside box was the size of a paper ream box.
