O-Men: Liege's Legion #1

O-Men: Liege's Legion - Liege

Rate this book
He’s not a robot. He’s not a human. He’s both.

Liege, changed against his will into a super soldier by nanotechnology, is driven to protect humanity from the evil intent of his enemies. But the deadly focus he was wired for comes to a crashing halt when he sees her, a female who ignites in him a very human hunger, one he no longer thought himself capable of feeling.

Summer Coltrane is oblivious to the powers swirling around her--light and dark, evil and good--until the veil between both worlds is ripped open and she’s plunged into a terrible power play between a darkly tempting warrior and his ruthless enemies.

To stay alive, she must join forces with Liege, a man who kills without remorse to save those he loves in a war no one in her world can know about.

"Elaine Levine is a wonderfully fresh and original voice in western romance.
RACHEL AND THE HIRED GUN is full of fast-paced action and powerful emotions. I loved it!"
-- Joan Johnston, New York Times bestselling author of A STRANGER'S GAME

"A pair of appealing, well-matched protagonists (with a bit of a history), a slimy villain, well-drawn secondary characters, and plenty of action make this rough-and-ready Western one that fans are sure to enjoy."
--Library Journal on AUDREY AND THE MAVERICK

"A beautiful romance…keeps the reader hooked from the first page to the last.” -New York Times Bestselling Author Catherine Anderson about LEAH AND THE BOUNTY HUNTER

Though this is the third book of a romance trilogy, the story stands quite well on its own. Elaine Levine gives us a multi-level story about trust and being able to overcome personal fears to achieve a goal. Set in the post-Civil War era, Leah and the Bounty Hunter gives us a window into the rough-and-tumble lives of our settler-forefathers and what they did to succeed against lawlessness and the incredible challenges to settle the old West. An enjoyable read, recommended. --Monica E. Spence, Historical Novels Review on LEAH AND THE BOUNTY HUNTER

ABOUT ELAINE:

Elaine Levine is an agoraphobic who lives in her son’s basement and runs doggie daycare for his pack of hounds. Her mind, however, is irrepressible, and she fills the endless moments of endless days crafting romance fiction from dystopian headlines she reads online. Be warned—her stories are addictive and dangerously appealing to those with similarly twisted minds and hopeful hearts.

I really enjoyed this book. If you are a fan of the Red Team you'll like this one. The difference is it has paranormal flair. They are soldiers that are enhanced. Well written and action packed. I highly recommend this book!

I am not going to recap the story, Rihaneh does an excellent job of that in her review. This is my first paranormal read - never had interest before but I love everything Elaine writes so I dove in. It took some getting used to the unusual ways of Liege and his Legion and therefore took about 100 pages before I was able to just get into the characters and not labor over the how's and why's of the team. My biggest hurdle was the Liege-Summer-meant-to-be with no slow dance to create the attraction/longing/desire. I happen to like to build up and tension that goes with the seduction and that was missing here. I am looking forward to the next book as Selena is well known to me and a kickass Heroine. I think that familiarity as well and some background on the O-men will help me get into the story faster. Selena is destined to the Legion's answer to Val of the Red Team - should be good.

I didn't feel a tremendous pull towards Liege-Summer but I know Elaine has a lot of moving parts to her stories and this is no different. I know one of the couples will resonate strongly with me - Elaine never disappoints.

This book is intense and has a storyline that is complex. That’s what I liked most about it. I am a fan of paranormal, but this is one of the few super soldier books that I’ve read. It did not disappoint. There’s a lot of information, and it’s a great build to the series. Liege and Summer have a great chemistry and compliment each other perfect. I love that there are questions that get answered and some that leave you wondering exactly what will develop into the future.

After reading all of Elaine Levine's books I had to try Liege . I'm so glad I did , considering Elaine has not written paranormal novels before she has written one of the best I've read. Desperately waiting for the next release.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I read it in one sitting. To be fair I have read and reread the Red Team series. I have waited anxiously for the O-Men and I was not disappointed in this story. I found the introduction to the O-Men entertaining and intriguing. Summer and Sam’s(Liege) love story was like a great cup of coffee - good to last drop. I could not resist the coffee cliche. The love story was both sweet and sexy. The attraction between Summer and Sam a ongoing simmer that made their love seem more realistic in the end.I appreciated that Summer didn’t become a brainless twit because she was falling in love. I enjoyed the relationship between Summer and her best buds immensely. She didn’t step away from the people who occupied her life because of her feelings for Sam. Her support system was solid and didn’t disappear because her life was changing. Something that happens all too often in romance books. The same can be said for Sam’s support system. The Men of Liege supported Sam and encouraged him to go for his relationship.
The one thing that didn’t ring true for me is the lack of discussion regarding the interracial relationship. On Sam’s part, I understand. His reality is colored by being in the army, traveling the world and being a mutant. On Summer’s part, I expected something. Even if it was a simple declaration that the color thing wasn’t an issue for her because... one of her dearest friends is black, her parents are hippies or she has dated outside her race before. This story takes place in everyday America. Race relations are ingrained in our society. Not addressing that seemed like a glaring plot hole to me. Other than that, I thought, Ms. Levine did an excellent job of introducing an intricate new series providing enough information to keep a reader interested in the world she has created. She, also, did a fantastic job introducing intriguing, realistic characters to root for in the battle to save life as we know it. Hence the reason for my title. I definitely recommend this book.

Their is one thing that reading this book has reminded me of - that it is time to reread the Red Team series!
This first installment of Elaine Levine's new series will leave you with baited breath for Bastion's story and the fall of the OMNI.
Ok down to some details - first I must say that I was disappointed when I found out that Liege was getting his story written before Bastion. Their was such anticipation about Bastion's story in the concluding moments of the Red Team series that I was naturally frustrated at the delay, caused by a character we know nothing about. I humbly admit I was very wrong lol While Liege's story was a little hard to get into, as a lot of details are reestablish for new readers, it is definitely written in the right order. With this story taking place at roughly the same time as the end of the Red Team series it is paramount in learning the differences between the teams and the abilities the 'mutants' have obtained. Seeing this second team interact and get along is both entertaining and enlightening before we get the introduction of numerous characters from the previous series, such as the WarBringer.
If you are someone who enjoys military romance with a little bit of SciFi/paranormal thrown in this is the book for you. If you love stories that have an over encompassing arc through multiple books in a series and characters that interconnect then this is the series for you. If you don't like books that leave questions unanswered or waiting until the next book in the series arrives this is not the book for you - or at least not until Elaine Levine has finished the series 😉

As a side note I will mention that I love the fact that Elaine Levine has opened up an unending amount of variables for different story lines within the series as a whole. By mentioning the history of the OMNI and their world wide influence not only will she be able to take us to different countries with different skill sets and locations but she can even do a number of 'prequel' stories for her avid fans.

I received an ARC copy of this book in return for an honest review.

O-Men: Liege’s Legion is the first book in a Paranormal Romance series that is a crossover with The Red Team, a Romantic Suspense series by the same author. Both series deal with a common enemy, The Omni, but from different organizations.

The Red Team and the Legion fight the Omni, but one fights the humans that are a part of the Omni while the other fights the altered humans or mutants that were created in the Omni’s labs. These “soldiers” were injected with nanotechnology that grants them supernatural powers such as telekinesis, telepathy, the ability to alter reality, erase memories, invisibility, project illusions, etc.

The Legion is an organization composed of a great number of altered humans who rebelled against their creators, and now fight their evil creations while protecting humanity from total doom.

Sam Garrick aka Liege is the leader of the world wide Legion of altered humans as well as the lead warrior in a group of friends that were with him at the training camps where they were changed forever and now share a Fort in a land near Fort Collins, Colorado. Sam is a romantic, down to earth, old soul that has found himself in the rare situation of meeting his life mate. Sam is left questioning whether or not this could be an enemy trick or the sick joke of a long lost legend in the world of mutants. In his world, Love was a Curse. Love was dead. Summer was his end.

Summer Coltrane is a human, or as referred to by mutants, a regular. She is working her dream job in a place that she dislikes and lately even fears. She surrounds herself with peace, beauty and the friendship of two wonderful women that are by all accounts her soul sisters. She is a creative, brave, sweet, and vegetarian heroine. Meeting Sam meant finding the one, the man that her romantic soul has been yearning for, but it also meant accepting the impossible, that monsters are real and that evil incarnate was after her. Loving Sam meant a life without peace.
Liege’s Legion is a good beginning to what feels like another great series by Mrs. Elaine Levine. A series full of breathtaking twists and unforgettable characters in world beautifully crafted.

I am a firm fan of the red team series and have been looking forward to this ne O Men series ever since it was first mentioned and I wasn't disappointed We already had a slight introduction with Bastion and Selena in the later books of the red team but now we get the full story

Liege and his men are survivors of the nanotechnology that the Omni have performed on humans They survived the jungle camps and kept their humanity intact and now they are out for revenge. Liege is startled when he is out one evening and the matchmaker visits him This is legend that the mutants have talked about but now he knows it is true, only problem The Matchmaker causes either the death of the mutant or his true light(life partner) When Liege then meets Summer he knows exactly who she is Can he keep her safe from the Omni can he keep her alive and safe from the matchmaker curse. Be prepared for a thrilling ride as we enter the world of Liege and his legion. Now I am desperately waiting for Bastian and Selina's story

Loved The Red Team from Elaine Levine, so really hoped the spin off would continue the stories, spin in new directions, boy this didn't disappoint. Summer and Sam/Liege story brings a new fight to the fore, that is the lead up to Bastions appearance in The Red Team HQ/home. Sam is a mutant, a leader, changed by the Omni scientists for their own army within their order. Their training, develops skills way beyond normal, and this is how their world or Sams world collides with human normal, the intense feelings, passion, bedroom antics and the world this opens or draws Summer into. Will the challenge of understanding what shes seen, the differences, the fear mean Summer and Sam cannot be together, can they love each other despite the differences? I loved this book, not my usual genre, but could put it down, cannot wait for the next edition!

I liked the Red Team books, so was excited when I heard this series was going to be set in the same world. However after reading this book I'm on the fence. So many times I almost dnf'ed the book, it was just weird, mutants, not really explained well in my eyes. Then there was the ghouls, also not explained very well to me. I was so so on the romance between Sam and Summer. I did like how Sam took the time to get to know Summer and gave her space when she needed it with all the new things she was learning.

I wished there would have been more with Sam and his guys. I sort of feel like there should have been some type of bridge book with just the guys, might have made it easier to jump into this new world.

I will probably check out the next book, only because I want to see what happens with Selena, but it will be a make or break book for the series for me.

I loved this first book in the new O-Men Series! Elaine Levine's books are so well written and tightly edited, you don't have the distractions of editing in your head as you read, so you can sit back and enjoy the ride. While I'm not a huge fan of paranormal storylines, I like how she ventured a bit more into the paranormal without having it overwhelm the storyline. Despite their many differences, Liege and Summer are meant to be together and they are strong characters together and on their own. The author is so adept at describing environments and setting the scenes, you feel as if you are inside the story yourself.

This book has a HEA and no cliffhanger, and I highly recommend reading The Red Team if you haven't already, not because you need to, but because you will want more once you've finished Liege. I 'm really looking forward to reading Bastion and Serena's story.

Having read the Red Team series it was great to get the perspective of some of those forced into the trials and how they felt and dealt with what happened, the on going fight with mutants and trying to find answers. This is action packed and exciting, full of interesting places and characters, it also has some love. The descriptions are detailed and clear so give you an image in your head of the look of both places and people. Fast flowing plot that keeps you on the edge of your seat at times, and others melting with emotion. I love these men and it breaks my heart what was done to them and how it all affected their whole life, the fear and worry and the sadness and anger. Though complex the story was easy fore to follow as I knew threw the background from the previous series, I am however looking forward to a time when both sides merge because working together may benefit them all as each brings answers, questions and solutions to the table. Fantastic read

Great book

Wow...what a way to start a new series. I thought I’d want Selena’s book first but this was definitely needed first. We had to understand how this team came to be. It had everything, drama, intrigue and love. Can’t wait for the next book.

For all of the Red Team series, the working of the OWO have been slowly peeled back. It is not pretty, and there's some ruthless people at work. We are invested in these characters as we have watched their lives change. Now we are being introduced to the outcomes of the OWO's experimentation and manipulation. It's unlike what we've previously seen but it's not unexpected. We've been getting hints something like this has been going on and now we are actually seeing the result. No Spoilers...but its really cool. Now we have a new batch of fighters of the OWO and they have special skills. That's as far as I am going to go in that direction. It is, at its core, a love story. And quite the touching love story it is. I wasn't sure when I began how I would feel about this, but I really really enjoyed it. I was enchanted by the characters, especially knowing I would be seeing them in future books. I really liked seeing "old friends" from the Red Team (so glad we are not completely done with them yet). Elaine writes a wicked story and she captures you in her world. You get vested in her people and you want them to find their happily ever after. But along the way you cheer for them, cry for them, and eagerly anticipate their next adventure. Although you can read this book standalone, I would highly recommend reading the Red Team series first.

A new twist

Another great story, but with a different angle. IMO is still causing problems and where the red team left off there's a new kind of defender. Nano technology changes them but the desire to do good is strong.

Sci-fi is not my normal reading genre but this book grabbed me from the first chapter and held me captive to the end. Liege aka Sam is the leader of a group of men who were turned into mutant super soldiers against their will while they were in the service. They were given injections that caused them to have heightened senses and abilities. They are now hunting and trying to kill those who turned them and are continuing their experiments. Liege encounters a being called The Matchmaker who finds a mutant’s human soulmate. The Matchmaker comes with a curse...either the mutant or the woman died. Summer is a human, or regular, and The Matchmaker visits her also tell her to go to Liege, only he can save her. When these two meet, it’s insta attraction until the monsters and other mutants show up. Then Summer is in danger and denial. This book has bosses from h€££, 2 bffs and lots of hot steamy scenes. This is my first time reading this author but it definitely won’t be my last.

I’m diggin’ this new series!

I was initially skeptical about this new, paranormal spin on the fictional fight against the OWO. But I must say I am not disappointed! I’m falling in love with Liege and his team and I am looking forward to seeing how this series develops.
Side note** if you are a fan of the Red Team series, this is definitely a left turn from what we have seen before, but totally in the realm of possibility in the world the author has created for us! This book is full of characters that are strong and fiercely loyal and loyal with a little fun and humor thrown in too😉

I’m not a big fan of paranormal as I can never get my head around it all. This is the first book I’ve ever bought in that genre and the reason for that is because I love this authors writing style. I fell in love with her previous series and knew this one would link in so needed to give it a go. I am so glad I did, I loved Liege and Summer and can’t wait to read about the rest of the team.

What an outstanding start to this new series. I don't know where to begin as this has all the elements of an addictive, intriguing and exciting story. There is so much content, so many twists and turns, so much tension and as for the sizzling relationship between Sam and Summer it can't be better.

I loved this book and highly recommend it to you. A must read.

I found this slow going at the start. I’m not sure why. But I pushed through and was rewarded with a lovely romance with all the right elements. A little attraction, a little friendship, a little love, a little passion and a little violence make for a great dish to savored and enjoyed. Can’t wait to read the rest of this series

O-Men

Loved this spin-off series of the Red Team.
It is a little more paranormal/science fiction than the original series but not too far out of reality.

Liege and Summer are a good match. The beginning was a little slow for me (approx the first 4 chapters) but I have read the entire Red Team series.

You do NOT have to read those books before this one though. Those first 4 chapters do a good job of setting the stage for the O-Teams ability and story as the timing is set as a bit of overlap with the RED TEAM.

Can't wait for Bastion & Selena!!

For a really excellent review of this book read the one by Rihaneh. It's obvious that she is a follower of this author and has the background information from the other series this is spun off from.
I was given a pdf. of this book to judge for a contest through NERFA. There was no cover in the pdf.
In the beginning I felt like I was dumped into a story that had a backstory that I wasn't privy to. I kept asking myself who, what, how, why. All of these questions were eventually answered as the story went on but it seemed to take forever. I didn't know who or what the Omnis were, were they the scientists or the monsters? It wasn't until page 401 that I found out that not all the Omnis were bad, and not all of the bad guys were Omnis. I like to be able to picture the characters right away but because a description was lacking in the beginning I looked the book up. I knew then, by the cover, that the hero was dark skinned. That wasn't mentioned in the book until page 42. I knew by the blurb that he was some kind of cyborg. Liege's description of the Matchmaker was a fiendish creature with red eyes and Summer saw a crazy looking red haired guy. This was confusing for me. Did the author use beta readers that were not familiar with her other series? That might have helped her. Despite all of this I still want to purchase the next books in this series. I'm intrigued. I like the location of the fortress, and that the abuse of nanotechnology being the basis for the series is interesting too.

As a fan of Elaine Levine's Red Team Series, I was excited that she planned to continue the story of the Omni world in her new series. As a reader of Contemporary and Romance Fiction, I wasn't sure what to expect in this new series. I would describe this story of Liege as fantastical realism. While the relationships are genuine and real, the extraordinary changes that are the new normal took a little time to wrap your head around. I appreciated the way the characters thought processes and actions were explained, as this smoothed the transition into the rest of the story. I was pulling for Summer and Sam/Liege throughout the story. I enjoyed getting to know the men of Leige's Legion and I loved how we were left with the potential for other matches to be made in future stories as this series continues.
Elaine Levine is a quality writer and I look forward to reading the next book in the O-Men Series .
