So, on to the ASUS, these headphones honestly look a little goofy, but the sound quality!!! The base is deep for this price point. I don't like a ton of base, but I like it when it's part of the experience. The highs are very clear and even as high as my computer will go, they never distort or sound starved for power. The comfort is a solid 9, they are made of plastic which is a little disappointing, but I didn't find them to make any annoying squeaks or press on my head too firm. The mic is very good, the range and power are excellent. I mean these really just blew me away. I don't understand why they have a so/so review rating here on amazon, I would recommend these over any of the other wireless options.
I started shopping for a replacement headset. I did a lot of research online. I was debating about getting another A50, going with a high end stereo headphone like a Sennheiser (with virtual surround software) or getting a true 7.1 surround sound headset. I read about the ASUS ROG Centurion 7.1. It got pretty decent reviews and I loved the concept of true 7.1 surround sound for FPS games. The only negative was that some complained that the rear drivers were too soft. Others raved about the headset. I figured I'd give it a try.
When the ROG Centurion arrived, I couldn't wait to hook it up. I downloaded the latest software, drivers and firmware. I installed everything and hooked up the base station and the headset. When I first started using it, I decided to listen to music. It defaults to 7.1 so I listened to that and then turned 7.1 off. I was extremely disappointed with the quality of the audio even with 7.1 off. It seemed hollow or tinny. I messed with the EQ settings and it got a little better but not nearly as good as my A50.
I then jumped in Overwatch and Fortnite with 7.1 back on. The sound was awful. The game sounded so muffled and hollow. Not only that, but I noticed even with the master volume all the way up...it wasn't as loud as my A50. As I played, I could definitely hear the directions people were shooting from as long as they were on my sides or in front. If they were behind me...the audio was crazy soft. If you were in a firefight or even chopping wood in Fortnite...you'd never hear footsteps or shots behind you. I had people come in behind me and shoot me several times with me never even hearing them until I saw the flash on my screen.
I played with the EQ, and tried the settings on the base station. I could never get anything to sound even halfway decent. The main thing I got this for was for gaming. While the directional sound was accurate...the quality of that sound mixed in with the horrible rear audio made it actually much worse than the virtual surround sound with my A50. I was very disappointed. I did loots of searching around all evening for fixes and I couldn't find anything.
I do love the ability to hook up the speakers through the base station and not having to change default devices. I do like that this comes with a 2nd set of cloth ear pads. The build seems nice and while some mentioned it was very heavy the weight didn't bother me at all.
With all that said...the most important part about a headset is the audio quality and I am sorry to say that these are severely lacking in that department. Even at max volume (both with the headset and using speakers) the audio seems soft. I used to be able to blast my external speakers with music. Not with this. As for gaming...the audio quality is aweful. While the directional audio of true 7.1 is nice...the quality of that audio is so bad that it actually muffles the sound and the rear audio is so low you can't hear people behind you. It basically defeats the purpose of true 7.1. I ended up returning the headset.
In short - the headset goes back. 4-5 hrs of experimenting + search for software, $300+ and subpar gaming experience - all that prompts for return.
Comfort at 3 starts - this thing is heavy :)
First for people who's saying the headset mic very poor or something like that , they are really unlucky
I was afraid from ordering this ... Because in amazon Reviews ' There is many issue with the Mic Quality-
Compared with another headset mic this win for me ... and perfect setting for the mic .. 5 star
-For those people asking which serial number u got on the box Serial Starting with " H " Is working perfect without any issue right now using it every day without single issue ... like other people
Comparing between Razer and other products this make sense to buy it and ofc winning at the moment this is
1st Headset true 7.1 and perfect sound Quality ...5 Star for Sound ..
* If your playing a lot of FPS games go ahead and buy it , and remember this is the best choice in the market FEB-2018 right now ..
-Tested On Game : " Rainbow Six Siege With ASUS ROG Centurion True 7.1 " = Result = You can know the direction where the enemy are - Very clear sound in this game with 7.1 working Comparing with Razer Man'O War 7.1 and HyperX Cloud 2 and Revolver S ... Asus true 7.1 headset is Winning without comparing in Rainbow six siege with 7.1 active
- Tested On Game :Call of Duty WWII - Multiplayer With ASUS ROG Centurion True 7.1 " = Result = The sound build in this game maybe is not accurate or something like that so for my result normal quality on virtual 7.1 and maybe same as 2.0
-Tested On Game : Battlefield 1 With ASUS ROG Centurion True 7.1 " = Result = Good Sound Quality
- *Disadvantages : When am using this headset the Specially Ear Cushion is annoying me little bit when i put my ear on it but this small problem for me
I agree with some guys who said they need to redesign the headset
