Dear konsonant/,

We are extremely excited to announce that we have 4 projects screening at Sundance this month! And what’s even better is that they’re all amazing and uniquely different projects.

What they all have in common are strong visions by independent filmmakers who are not afraid to bring a voice to their creativity and social consciousness.

Andrew and Gil wore many different hats across all of these projects. From Original Score to Music Supervision to Consultation and Conducting, Konsonant Music did EXACTLY what our mission statement says:

We empower Independent Filmmakers with Meaningful Music and Sound Advice.

Read on for details about each project and links to their screening times at Sundance. Please let us know if you’ll be up there. It would be great to hang.

SUNDANCE, HERE WE COME!
The Great Hack

Have you ever filled out an online survey? Do you wonder why you receive ads for products that you happened to research the day before? Be afraid. Be very afraid. Data has surpassed oil as the world’s most valuable asset, and it is being weaponized to wage cultural and political wars. We’re in a battle for control over our most intimate personal details. The Great Hack uncovers the dark world of data exploitation through the compelling personal journeys of players on different sides of the explosive Cambridge Analytica/Facebook data breach that rocked the world.

Academy Award nominees Karim Amer and Jehane Noujaim (The SquareControl RoomStartup.com) return to the Sundance Film Festival with this deeply layered, ethically complex, disturbing and riveting documentary. The Great Hack compels us to question the genesis of the information we consume daily and challenges us to think about what we give up when we tap that phone or keyboard and share ourselves in the digital age.

The Dress Up Gang

The insanely funny and surrealistic comedy trio expands their cult-hit web series. Donny, a responsible adult with the innocence and outlook of a child, relies on guidance and life advice from his friend Cory, the dad-like thirtysomething who has been crashing on Donny’s couch for quite some time. We are excited to premiere two of the gang’s escapades, both presented in this pilot episode

Produced by Abso Lutely Productions (Tim and Eric, Nathan For You) for TBS, this series features CORY LOYKASEK and DONNY DIVANIAN with special guests ANDIE MACDOWELL and FRANKIE QUINONES.

The Edge Of Democracy

THE EDGE OF DEMOCRACY

Winner of the 2016
TRIBECA FILM INSTITUTE / KONSONANT MUSIC
TFI Network Film Scoring Package

Once a nation crippled by military dictatorship, Brazil found its democratic footing in 1985 and then, in 2002, elected a hugely popular political disrupter: steel-worker-turned-activist Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. Under his watch, 20 million Brazilians were lifted out of poverty, and his country rose to international prominence. In 2010, “Lula” passed the presidential baton to his prodigy, a fierce female guerrilla named Dilma Rousseff.

But beneath their sunny legacy, rumblings of populist rage and institutional corruption seeped into the mainstream—much of it abetted by a partisan judge who fed news outlets sensational, deeply flawed corruption reports that targeted Lula, Dilma, and anyone else who refused to scratch the backs of powerful politicians and special-interest groups.

With remarkably intimate access, The Edge of Democracy follows Brazil’s embattled leaders as they grapple with a scandal born out of their country’s fascist past and inflamed by a furious and ideologically divided nation. Like a great Greek tragedy, Petra Costa’s film carries a potent warning: Brazil’s crisis is one that is shared—and fomented—by Western superpowers run by equally treacherous political forces.

IT'S NOT ABOUT JIMMY KEENE

This project is written, directed, edited and starring Caleb Jaffe in his Sundance debut. What’s more, he’s only 22!

Andrew’s son, Julien, has been friends with Caleb since they were 5 years old. Throughout the years Andrew would offer help and advice as Caleb developed his filmmaking skills. For It’s Not About Jimmy Keene, Andrew consulted with Caleb about his vision (and how to communicate it to his composer), provided music supervision services and conducted the scoring session.

Remember the name, Caleb Jaffe. He’s a special filmmaker.
