Unit looks great and has decent build quality. The motorised screen feels somewhat flimsy when extended, but no more than you would really expect. There is a helpful wiring diagram on the metal body. The GUI (Graphical User Interface) is significantly better than some budget touchscreen units I've used. It's simple to navigate, fairly quick to respond to touches, and offers adequate settings options, but no customisation options.
Sound quality is great. Call quality (receiving) is just as good as listening through my iPhone 6 ear speaker. From what a family member told me, the call quality (transmitting using the built-in mic on the unit) is surprisingly good. This device can operate with the screen stowed or extended, which is quite helpful. It also has an onboard SD card slot so you can store your music in your unit, which is quite helpful if you don't want to tote around your CD's or don't have a device to stream music from. The rear of the unit provides RCA connections for video in as well as the audio-out for the speakers. You'll also find wires to connect steering wheel controls and a subwoofer (if applicable).
One minor issue with the unit is that if you are streaming music from your phone or iPod via bluetooth and want to change settings or anything else, the second you leave the bluetooth screen it will stop playing your music. As far as I can tell, it is only with bluetooth that this occurs. CD's and Radio seem just fine while browsing other menu screens.
The short version: I would recommend this unit! For the price, it is an unbeatable value with very few quirks or issues. A great first head unit for anyone looking to upgrade their stock radio in their car.
Installation Note: The connector that clicks into the unit is very close to the power transformer box (unsure of actual name of this piece), which can make installing this unit complicated - especially in vehicles like my '09 VW New Beetle, due to the way the dash mount is structured. If you run into this issue, I recommend buying some wire of the same gauge and simply cutting and soldering an extension of about 3 inches between the connector and the box. This should solve any issue you might have in trying to fit the wiring behind the unit in certain vehicles (do this at your own risk, as you could potentially damage your unit or your vehicle. I, nor Soundstream, are responsible for anything that might happen to your unit or your vehicle due to actions such as this).
Also, if your vehicle does not have a powered antenna (one that automatically extends or retracts when you power your vehicle on/off), do NOT connect your powered antenna blue wire to your vehicle. This could damage your vehicle!
The Bluetooth works great, movies are great. The audio is more than acceptable.
I would recommend this to anyone
The deck has a very simple, boring face really. The screen is solid, does not wiggle around when driving as I thought it would, even wen you tap it. Blue back light, cannot change the color, but it is not too much or too bright.
Now the things I do not like, bearing in mind I have only used pioneer decks before, and my point are based around playing music from a usb drive, not bluetooth etc.
The system is not the most user friendly, the booklet does not go into great detail, it actually says the best way to learn the deck is to go into each menu and play with it yourself!!
The screen is not the most sensitive when using my fingers, if I use my nail, it seems to respond better, probably meant to use a stylus, which makes no sense. The layout of the screen is retarded.
The bottom of the screen has the play/pause/ff/rw controls, which are useless because they are on the deck itself, and easier to use, so that space was wasted in my opinion. The deck also takes about 10 seconds to read the usb stick.
There is a tab on the screen that is supposed to change the folder but it does not work, it changes between the first 3 folders alone, and there is no button on the deck to change the folders.. VERY ANNOYING To change the folders you have to tap on the bar with the name of the folder, which I discovered by messing with it.
There is no way to access the equalizer with the music playing. VERY ANNOYING 2!! You have to go into the main menu, go settings etc. but the music stops.
When the deck is off, unlike the cheapest of the cheapest, the display does not show the time.. it just goes blank.. SOOO VERY ANNOYING.
