Black Widow

Black Widow

The Los Angeles band In This Moment conjure anthemic confessionals that sound as though they’re emerging from the ruins of a dark, decaying cityscape. Kinetic singer/lyricist Maria Brink and band play up various influences (industrial, Southern gothic, and Alice Cooper) against themes that canvas everything from child abuse to avarice, all submersed in a fierce (and sometimes tender) postpunk, post-metal, electronic carriage. There’s glittery stomp (“Dirty Pretty”), a horror-show requiem (“Natural Born Sinner”), ironic tease (“Sex Metal Barbie”), teenage redemption (“Out of Hell”), and a slithery duet about obsession with Shinedown singer Brent Smith (“Sexual Hallucination”).
