The Distance Carbon Z Poles were a revelation. There are so light , easy to store and strong. I purchased them primarily to facilitate traveling with poles but now they are my go-to poles in any hiking setting when I need poles. I haven't used them for winter hiking yet but I understand they do accomodate a snow basket.
AS for B-D service I am more than satisfied. Recently, at the start of a trail running adventure I fell and the push button mechanism broke so that the pole could not lock. I'm not sure but it is possible that I did not correctly "lock" the pole to begin with might have contributed to the fall. I sent in a photo of the pole and a description of what happened to B-D Warranty. They sent me a set of new poles within days. B-D has made an impression with me,

I have MS and balance problems. A friend told me about them. I like being "sporty" and not have to cause pity. I used to be a runner and walker. These definitely don't look like I have any problem; canes were not the solution anyway.
I always mention the bonus calorie burn --which thrills many.
I have 2 sets to have one in the car whereever I go. They have saved my emotional life as well as physical.
I also found the pole sections to come apart sometimes while hiking. This would happen if the pole got stuck in rocks and you had to pull it out a little bit. (The sections wouldn't slide out completely, maybe just a quarter inch, but it was a bit annoying.)
I general I think it's worth considering a pole that has adjustable height so you can have one height for going up in another height for going down.
Hopefully Amazon or Black Diamond will take care of the broken strap for me.

Here’s an interesting twist to my story the first time I use these. I was late to meet with a walking group and, by mistake slammed my car door shut on the tips of one of the poles. It broke right off. Yes, these need looking after with more care than the cheaper models - a bit like a Stradivarius violin compared to a Suzuki model. Fortunately it’s possible to get all spare parts and another $11 later, I was on my way. I’ll definitely try not to do that again. However, I am happy with my purchase. I am still not sure whether I could bring these polls as carry-on baggage on an airplane. The tips are not spikes and in theory should be allowed. But Security May view this differently in different countries.
