So far it's all pros and no cons. I'm getting 130 Mbps standard (which is faster than the UVerse speed itself), haven't had any dropped connections, and the signal is very strong a story and forty feet away. If you've got a desktop and want to add WiFi capabilities, this is a great option.
I installed this card in an open PCIE x16 slot, which you can do. I've seen many questions answered with "If you have an open x1 slot it will fit" you may just make sure with your mobo you aren't taking lanes away from your graphics card (mine by default is running pcie slot 1 at x16 and slot 2 at x2 so I didn't have any bottleneck by adding an x1 card to slot 2 some boards the pcie ports share lanes)
I had to do this because my x1 slot was blocked by my graphics card and liquid cpu cooler fan), turned everything on and inserted the CD. One feature that I absolutely love is the option to install the DRIVERS ONLY in the setup CD. Coming from my old D-LINK card that had no simple one click option to do this I was thrilled to have the option to just use the native windows network manager. Everything installed perfectly and immediately came up showing all available WiFi networks.
I selected my 5ghz network and it connected immediately and I have had no issues yet. Speed from my ISP is solid although I have yet to test device to device transfer to see if this lives up to the 450 mbps claim.
All in all it does everything I expected it to, and the fact that it allowed me to not install the Network Manager and install the driver only very quickly and easily is an added bonus, which I feel warrants the 5 star rating. If it keeps functioning how it has so far I will be extremely pleased. If it doesn't and I have any drops in connection, etc. I will update my review to reflect it.
The good reviews are correct. Bad reviews, well while it's possible to get a bad card, I would suggest something isn't right with the person's machine, installation, or software / hardware compatibility. You should be able to install this card and be up and running in a matter of a few minutes. I would highly recommend also installing the software including the utility to connect to wireless networks. In most cases Windows will work fine without installing any of the software. I run this card with Windows 7 in a Dell XPS 8300 desktop.
I was getting 30- 60 Mbps on my PC across the house in another room on a comcast 110 download / 10 Upload Mbps connection using an ASUS dual-band router and my flaky wireless Amped card. After installing this TP-LINK card I am getting between 100 / 130 Mbps. It effectively doubled my speed. I get full bandwidth use over wireless now, something that the comcast engineer told me was impossible. I tested on speedtest.net. YMMV. If you need a new card or are replacing an existing card, I would highly recommend this PCI-E card.
UPDATE 7/22/2016
I bought another one, the high-end AC dual band one for a new build. It works fine with Windows 10. It didn't automatically detect, but with the CD driver install, just ran that, and boom! No-nonsense install and operation. I am getting 180 Mbps over my Infinity wireless connection just with preliminary testing. Downloaded half a gig in a few minutes. Smoking! I recommend this card to anybody and everyone, what a good fast card to have. Working great with an ASUS Dual band router.

It features dual-band support for both 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies, which allows for optimal performance in different situations. The adapter also includes three external antennas, which provide strong and stable signal strength.
Installation of the TL-WDN4800 was incredibly easy. The adapter features a PCIe interface, which makes it compatible with most desktop computers. The adapter also includes a setup CD, which makes it easy to install the necessary drivers and software.
One of the standout features of the TL-WDN4800 is its compatibility with multiple security protocols. The adapter supports WEP, WPA/WPA2, and WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK encryption, which ensures secure and protected Wi-Fi connectivity.
Overall, I have been thoroughly impressed with the TP-LINK TL-WDN4800 N900 Dual Band Wireless adapter. It offers fast and reliable Wi-Fi connectivity, easy installation, and compatibility with multiple security protocols at an affordable price point. Whether you're looking to upgrade your desktop's wireless capabilities or replace a faulty adapter, the TL-WDN4800 is a great investment for anyone in need of a high-performance wireless adapter.

I was surprised at how fast it shipped, considering I placed the order late on Christmas Eve (Dec. 24th) and received it on Boxing Day.
As soon as I connected to my 5 GHz network, I ran 3 separate network speed tests at [...] and consistently reached ~25 Mbps download, 10 ms ping, and ~15 Mbps upload each time. Since I installed this card a few days ago, my network speed has not degraded one bit, and I never experience the frustration of lagging out or getting disconnected mid-game.
Therefore, I highly recommend this product, for the following reasons:
- fast shipping
- ease of installation
- reliability
- very reasonable price point (purchased for $39.99)
For the reader's reference, prior to purchasing this wireless adapter, I had an AMD-branded Ralink RT3090. Located only 15 feet away from my wireless router, the PC had very unreliable WiFi connection--ranging between 0.5 Mbps to 12 Mbps (I have Teksavvy 25 Mbps DSL). After installing the latest driver, connection speed and reliability improved slightly, but I ultimately determined that living in a condo with dozens of other WiFi signals in the 2.4 GHz band was a huge part of the problem. I like to do some online gaming and occasional streaming / downloading, so reliable network speed is important.
However, the product worked out of the box, it picked up its own Atheros driver in Windows 10 and not a single dropped connection since install. I firmly recommend and the price is also lower than anywhere else. I had got sick and tired of using Netgear Dual Band 3100 Adaptor for which I had paid more, with its terrible performance and hopeless support for it at Netgear.
I am using this with a Netgear 3500 Dual Band Router (which is also very good).
Firmly recommend to anyone looking for a good dual band adaptor provided you have a PCI-E slot free
