Ultimate GPS Bike Computer with Navigation and Connected Features
Ride longer and stronger while staying connected with the Edge 1030 GPS cycling computer. It features Trendline popularity routing, which uses billions of miles of rider data to show you the best on- and off-road routes. Whether you’re a competitor, commuter or an adventure-seeker, we’ve found a better ride for you.
Advanced Navigation with Garmin Cycle Map
Garmin is your guide, whether you like to ride on the road or off. Edge 1030 bike computer is preloaded with the Garmin Cycle Map and includes turn-by-turn navigation and new navigation alerts that notify you of upcoming sharp turns. While you ride, get information about elevation data, see points of interest and search for addresses. Round-trip routing will even generate a route for you. Simply tell Edge 1030 a distance and a starting direction, and it will give you a choice of up to 3 routes. And, of course, it’s smart enough to guide you back to the route if you deviate from it. When you’re planning long rides, you can count on your Edge 1030. It gets up to 20 hours of power, and with the new Garmin Charge integrated battery pack, you can keep your Edge running as long as you do.
Ride with Confidence and Ease
Edge 1030 works with our new in-line flush mount, which keeps your device in line with the handlebars, not above them. Not only does this give your Edge a lower profile, the mount also makes it effortless to switch out optional accessories such as the Garmin Charge power pack or any of our Varia line of cycling awareness devices. Edge 1030 is compatible with Varia rearview radar and smart bike lights to help create a safer riding environment. It also features built-in Incident Detection, which automatically sends your location to an emergency contact if you run into difficulty.

Initial Impressions:
1. I like the screen readability. This model utilizes a backlight when it is dark which is a huge improvement over the 810 model.
2. Screen size is also nice as you can actually read the waypoint and other map items on this device
3 Set up with other sensors. I own a Garmin cadence and speed sensor which paired easily with this device. I had the device set up and ready to go within 5-7 minutes of pulling the device out of the box.
Other Feedback:
1. After riding with this device I can say that the battery longevity is excellent - even with the aformentioned backlight
2. I also use this with Garmin Connect and my trips are automatically uploaded - very convenient!
3. Other features include expanded training screen display so that I can track HR, speed, distance and time to destination, etc.
4. Ease of use. This model is very easy to set up and configure for your own preference
Conclusion:
I am very satisfied with my purchase. Yes. THIS IS NOT AN INEXPENSIVE bike computer. But if you have the cash to buy one of the best, then you can't go wrong. It should last many years and provide excellent service. Although I have not owned this model long enough to make that statement. However, I have owned many Garmin GPS devices and I can say that their quality and robust design is consistently good in every product they make.
The unit is a joy to use. The phone app is a little dumpy but hey most are.
Some important notes about the crash detection (which it calls incident detection):
- You have 30 seconds to cancel the notifications being sent. This is fairly difficult to do, probably intentionally, so that if you aren't doing well the alerts still go out
- The notifications only work when the phone app is connected to the unit AND you have a cellular data connection. This is my least favorite condition since it can hammer battery and if you are in a remote area, then this is all pointless.
- The notifications can be text messages (sms) or emails. HOWEVER the text messages are sent by another party... Over the internet. So we're back to the no data = screwed bit. This also means sms recipients see it come from an unknown source. Garmin, PLEASE HAVE THE APP USE THE PHONE TO SEND THE MESSAGE
- There is a limit of 3 total notification recipients... Be it sms or email, the total is 3. This seems highly arbitrary. Please raise this Garmin
Despite those limitations it's a huge improvement over nothing. It gives me more piece of mind since I don't have family within several hours, I ride remote, and I like to ride at night.
I would give 5 stars if not for the crash detection notification limitations. Minus one star for that.
