Creative Cloth Explorations: Adventures in Fairy-Inspired Fiber Art Paperback – January 1, 2009

4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 55 ratings

Introduces new, creative techniques for the fiber journaler, scrapbooker, doll maker, beader, and sewer through fairy-inspired projects.

This book is the fifth installment on making creative cloth fiber arts from popular art doll designer, fiber artist, and workshop instructor Patti Culea, following
Creative Cloth Doll Making, Creative Cloth Doll Faces, Creative Cloth Doll Couture, and Creative Cloth Beaded Dolls. This book builds on the previous four by delving into how to make fun and elaborate-looking projects using the same old materials in a new and unique way. Readers will learn to make flat figures, fabric books, and a fairy-style fan.

Culea covers the basics and provides new techniques–such as using Shiva paint sticks and stencils, working with silk rods and waste, and using lace and trims as a frame–while teaching you to how create a flat figure doll, memory journal with embellished cloth pages, and a beautiful fan. Professional tips, ideas for embellishments, cutting-edge techniques, and complete patterns for all the projects are included.

This is a beautiful book. Really! Last Christmas I took my granddaughter, then 13, to a magical garden and showed her how to spot flower fairies. Eventually she saw a blue one. This year, since she is into fashion, I will use this book to teach her (and me) some art sewing using the instructions and beautiful illustrations. During our time together we can make fairy-inspired fiber art. This is a great book for bonding and making memories.

This book is great for those who love fairies and want to do more with textile work as opposed to dolls. Patti is known for her dolls but she should be known too for her textile fiber work as well.

This book is definitely not for a beginner. It is well written & has many ideas on trying different products, that you probably never thought of using. However, it is very time consuming to try. You must have a lot of patience. Best thing about this book is that it takes each sample & takes you from A-Z in how to accomplish that particular item.

This book is amazing. Like her other doll making books it includes works by other artists. It is both a how to and and inspirational. The photos of the artists works are eye candy. This presents a nice alternative to making 3-d dolls

Sized templates were no longer available from the publisher. A nuisance to have to fool around with the proportions on everything. The book and the information provided were excellent but as redesigned designed for the Kindle platform it didn't work very well. I was disappointed. If I could do it over I'd get the printed version of the book

Toujours intéressant comme tous les livres de cette créatrice de poupées artistiques textiles. Toutefois il y a de nombreuses choses qui se recoupent avec ses autres livres sur le même thème. Un bon niveau d'anglais est requis.

Patti is the queen of Art Dolls. Her books are easy to follow and highly informative. Only she and Jan Horrox have written books that are so clear and precise. Highly recommend both these talented ladies.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lots of inspiration

I read this book from cover to cover as soon as I got it. So many different techniques are included. This book is great for providing inspiration to the moderately experienced crafter and for beginners you could follow along using the pattern pieces provided. However, some of the instructions are a little hard to follow if you are new to a technique and would benefit from additional pictures showing the steps taken.
