Friends' Experience: Learning the Sublime Essence of Trust and Submission

Rate this book
Beyond 50 Shades … Way Beyond!

FRIENDS’ EXPERIENCE is an intimate exploration of kinks and fetishes by an unlikely couple, with thoughtful and philosophical discussion by the characters, and graphic descriptions of their erotic adventures.

Kelly and Sam continue to expand their sexual horizons by including Kelly’s open-minded friends in their fetish play. As Kelly learns more about her past and sets her sights on the future, Sam grows in his acceptance of gay and bisexual relationships. After Kelly and her friends give Sam a memorable birthday party, Sam designs a submission challenge for them. The friends bring their own spirit and enthusiasm to the session, surprising Sam and Kelly with their openness. The event becomes a competition, as Kelly’s friends cope with more and more outrageous experiences. The group learns that each of Kelly’s friends has her limits.

The Experiences series is an epic love story of erotic relationships and sexual desires. Written in a ‘literary realism' style, the series introduces Sam in the prequel, and the blossoming of his intimate relationship with Kelly as the series progresses. Fantasies and real-world adventures coalesce to mold a unique bond between unlikely lovers. Where needs are mutually satisfied in an open, creative and trusting environment. Where physical and mental boundaries are pushed. Where the concepts of love and sex are never confused, but sometimes confusing. Where openness is required and intimacy is expected. And where fair-is-fair, regarding the punishment of transgressions.

Contemporary erotic romance: Suitable for mature readers, aged 18+ years.

Experiences: Book 6 is 120,000 words, 15 chapters, 399 print pages

Book Review originally published here: http://www.iheartreading.net/book-tou...

I’ve read and reviewed all the previous installments in the Experiences series, and so far I’ve been surprised by the author’s creativity and her ability to keep on adding depths and layers to these characters and their relationships. I looked forward to reading Friends’ Experience, and it certainly was no dissapointment.

Like in the other books in the series, we follow Sam and Kelly as they expand their sexual horizons. They’ve been through a lot together, the two of them, and they have a strong connection, and mutual trust between them, which makes it possible for them to experience with other people too, in particular Kelly’s friends. While this installment, like the title suggests, focuses more on Kelly’s friends than on her and Sam, that doesn’t mean they don’t play a part at all, just maybe not as intense as in the previous books. What’s interesting here is that, while the other books have a very heavy focus on Kelly and Sam, here we don’t just see Kelly’s friends, Linda, Julie and Kathy in their relationship to one another but also to Kelly-Sam, thus creating a relationship that goes multiple ways and includes multiple people. We already saw part of that in the previous book, “Birthday Experiences”, but it’s even more prominent here.

It takes a skilled author to pull that off, and Simone Freier is definitely a skilled author. The entire atmosphere of the book is non-judgemental and forgiving, and it’s about love, friendship and respect more than it’s about sex, although, rest assured, sex plays a significant role too.

The book also focuses on some real life issues the characters face, like how Kelly wonders if Sam, despite being sexually open, is open on an emotional level. There’s also a submission challenge for Kelly’s friends that shows sides of them I never expected to see. We see the characters in a different daylight, once again examining their strengths and weaknesses, but this time even more up close.

It’s hard to keep rating the books because in my opinion, they just keep getting better and better. If Simone Freier writes an even better one next time, I’ll have run out of stars to give.

Each New "Experience" Keeps Getting Better and Better

She’s done it again. Just when you think that Simone Freier couldn’t possibly find more ways for Kelly and Sam’s relationship to grow – and mature – she finds them. This time, though, it is in the company of Kelly’s best friends, Julie, Linda and Kathy. Of course, we’ve met them all before, in “Weekend Experience,” “Birthday Experience” and “European Experience,” however, “Friends” focuses pretty much on the trio with Sam and Kelly as the side story. Even as the side story, the story of Kelly and Sam continues to blossom.

Just to refresh your memories, Kelly and Sam, “re-meet” at a party thrown by Kelly’s parents. To say they are an unlikely couple is putting it mildly. Sam is a retired fiftysomething, who had a long, loving relationship with his late wife, Sarah. Sam took the loss of his wife very hard, retreating into his own world. Kelly, on the other hand, a vivacious twentysomething, is just starting out life’s journey. Kelly is still in school, going for her advanced degrees in the rather specialized realm of pharmaceutical invention and marketing. Sam had retired from the field some years before, after a very noted career that left him among the leading figures in that particular arena. Indeed, the story of Kelly and Sam began with the young woman seeking career advice from the older professional.

At this point, Freier could have used the Sam-Kelly story as the driver for what could have been a pretty steamy one-off novel about BDSM, steamy sex and other exercises. It would have been easy to have the couple romp through various highly charged scenes, however, Freier did not do that.

Instead, Freier, an author of considerable talent whose work keeps getting better, kept the unlikely couple together. She started them on a journey of shared experience and growth that would lead them through a quite an uncommon birthday party and an even more interesting trip to Europe. Reading the parts of the “Experiences” saga that cover these story points, “Birthday Experience” and “European Experience,” we see two very different “experiences” occurring.

The first is the growth and deepening of the Kelly-Sam relationship. It moves from highly unlikely to deeply intimate and loving over time. Though just months apart, “Birthday” and “European” illustrate that people can create loving, intimate relationships, even from the unlikeliest of beginnings. The second is the growth and a deepening of a second, even weirder relationship, “the girls” and “Kelly-Sam.” Who could have thought that even as Kelly and Sam’s May-December relationship matured and grew that a second, loving, multi-character relationship could blossom? Well it did, under Freier’s skillful and highly creative guidance.

In “Friends,” we find that just as the Kelly-Sam hookup has grown, the “girls-Kelly/Sam” has also taken on a life of its own. Each relationship has matured in ways that are similar and yet far different. Both relationships are trusting, nonjudgmental, creative and supportive: Kelly and Sam care for each other and “the girls – Linda, Julie and Kathy.”

One can easily ask how it is possible? However, under Freier’s skillful authorship, we just see it happen, much like life just happens all around us. That, perhaps, more than anything else is the key to Freier’s writing. Freier, whose thought processes are quite imaginative, is a natural author. Though you know from the start of each book that the author is in tight control over the proceedings, you never realize it. The writing style is relaxed, even playful, and always fresh. Though contrivance is essential to any author who must move the characters along the plotline so the story will move, nothing in Freier’s writing seems contrived. It is as if we are watching a mirror of life.

It is life, played out, though, against a subtext of sexuality and sexual play. No, these novels aren’t for the timid as they get rather explicit at times, but they are not racy, at all. It just seems a natural outgrowth of the relationships that Freier has created. Like a skillful painter, the author uses sexual play and BDSM as the canvas upon which she paints quite a lovely and loving story of relationships that occur and play out against a highly unusual backdrop.

It is a background that could easily have degenerated into the usual XXX-rated novel of sex for sex’s sake and titillation for titillation’s sake, but it isn’t. “Friends” is as far away from that portrayal as the sun is from Mars. The novel concentrates on the people and their interactions rather than just the mechanical structure. Granted, there are novels that look at the basic sex act and succeed because of the monomania of their authors, however, this isn’t one of those novels. To me, it is far more as the characters seem real and fully featured. I’ll grant that I continue to enjoy reading Simone Freier because she is a fantastic author. Now, pulling myself back into the role of reviewer, I have to state that Freier’s ability to keep things real lifts her a cut above others in the field of sex and sex games.

One of the interesting things about Freier’s work is how she keeps the anticipation going. The central theme could have become well mined and stale by now, but, let me tell you it isn’t. The fact is there’s another trip coming up in the next part of the multi-volume saga that I can hardly wait to read.

This series just keeps getting better!
Kelly and Sam are back from their European trip full of stories – some which they can share and others not! The next big step in their relationship – moving in together – in planned, but that also involves Kelly telling her parents about her relationship with Sam. This goes fine despite some nervousness and Kelly’s mother presents her with the court documents concerning her adoption which she now has access to being 25. A new storyline has been introduced and shows us Kelly now in her role as daughter with her (adoptive) mother and the skill of the author in broadening the world around Sam and Kelly to include their families and more mundane aspects of everyday life which they have to face.
The’ friends’ experience of the title involves a range of familiar and new characters and even though I had to question how Sam and Kelly can maintain their strong attachment and love in the face of their ‘experiences’ with others I found that the author achieves this and only makes me admire more the amazing relationship she’s created for these two. I think part of this is because she has Sam also have doubts and uncertainties about what they do and if this is OK even though at the time everything seems ‘natural’ - great characterization which enriches the whole reading experience. The ‘experiences’ are sometimes over the top as we know Sam well enough by now to know the kind of ideas he comes up with - sometimes this is annoying , sometimes amusing and you can feel yourself eye-roll along with the girls, but the final ‘experience’ he sets up had me groaning and laughing simultaneously.

Again and thoroughly enjoyable read, fantastic work and as ever I’m already awaiting the next which judging by the end will be a tropical island experience.

Friends Experience by Simone Freier is another installment of the Experience series. In it, Sam and Kelly are back again expanding both their sexual horizons on their love for one another. In Friends Experience, Kelly’s friends join us again. First, for a birthday party for Sam and then as a part of a new adventure between them. Everyone is incredibly open minded in this novel and they all do a lot of growing. Their reward for the out of this world birthday party that they threw for Sam is a submission challenge designed by Sam to test their limits and to see how far they will go when they are competing against one another. What I really enjoyed about this novel and the entire Experience series as a whole I the fact that Simone writes in such a way that you not only enjoy the kink but also the story. In fact, you enjoy it so much you start to wonder where your limits would lie in a similar situation. I’m glad to have taken this journey with Kelly and Sam and hope to get to read more novels about them.

Sexually Charged and yet, very intimate

I have read all of the books in the Experiences series, and as I read each one, I am not only engaged totally into the bedroom (and other places) of Kelly and Sam, but also the engulfed completely by the way that Freier writes. Her words bring Kelly and Sam to life and how the real world and fantasies of the couple create a bond, brings the sense of realism and intimacy. Through out the series, the couple grows, and this book adds to the growth of not only their relationship as lovers, but also their relationship as sexual partners. Other partners may enter their bed, but as long as they have each other, is all that really matters. A totally dynamic read, and the dark fantasy world opens the eyes of whoever reads this. Yes, it's sexually charged, from the beginning, but it's also very intimate. Sensational read!

Friends Experience is my 6th novel by Simone Freier and is the 6th novel in the experience series. In this novel Kelly and Sam continue to grow as both individuals and a couple but this time, Kelly’s friends have joined in again. Kelly and her friends give Sam a birthday party that he won’t soon forget and are rewarded with a submission challenge that with expand all of their horizons. The reintroduction of some “new” characters brings a whole new level of engagement to this installment of the series. If you are into BDSM and/or intrigued by submission then this book will be up your alley. While it is strong enough to stand on its own, reading the books in order will help you to gain a better appreciation for the characters, where they are now, and where they came from. Start this series and you won’t regret it.

Testing their boundaries even more means learning more about themselves. Getting together with Kelley's friends and challenging and pushing their boundaries makes for a fantastic birthday for Sam. Reading through this series is reading through the journey a man after he loses his wife. A journey for a woman that falls for a man double her age. learning how to make each other happy and living a BDSM lifestyle to the fullest. AL long the way they share experiences with friends and open their passions even more as they grow in love and togetherness. A series that will haveyou thinking more about yourself and you experiences.

I have not read any of Ms Freier’s books. This book is number 6 in The Experience Series. The storyline was well developed and well written. However, I felt the continual referring to the previous books in this series was a bit much and really was not needed to follow the storyline. I did enjoy the relationship between the characters, which is a May/December relationship along with the main female characters friends, made the storyline believable.
Our Blog was given this book in exchange for an honest review.
