Editorial Reviews

Digitally remastered edition of this 2002 release. Keith Emerson was the co-founder of The Nice and Emerson Lake And Palmer (ELP). Emerson Plays Emerson has been out of print for many years and is sought after by his strong core fanbase. This reissue uses a fresh transfer of the master tapes.

I’ve always felt that after the ‘Works’ albums, ELP should have explored an acoustic version of the trio. Well this is the closest I’ll ever come to hearing that vision. In my humble opinion, Keith Emerson was at his best behind an acoustic piano, and this recording demonstrates that. I only wish the maestro had continued his composing exploration - if he heard it in his head he could have written it down and let others perform it. Rest well, my friend, and thank you for this outstanding recording.

I’ve been a fan of Keith Emerson almost 50 years now! Heard the debut Emerson Lake & Palmer LP and connected with the artistry of each band member combined and separately since; heard the Nice “Five Bridges Suite” shortly after; and have enjoyed other pre- and post-ELP stuff , especially Emerson’s.
An album of new solo compositions/performances (circa 2002), this is classic Emerson.
If you are a fan and you don’t have this yet, then get it now while it’s available.

Always great to get additional Keith Emerson music for the library. Good mix of styles and tempos. Definitely not ELP but more like walking into a club and having him playing whatever he felt like. I enjoy it.

This title is being reissued by Cherry Red, due for release on 9/29/17, and is now available for pre-order here on Amazon. This re-release is advertised as "using a fresh transfer of the master tapes by ABBEY ROAD with a 2017 remaster".

This is fine set of recordings, which is well worth getting before it becomes unavailable. Apart from "Close to Home" which does appear to have some effects added to original the Piano sound, this is Keith Emerson playing his own grand Piano.

So if you like solo Piano (although there are a couple of Jazz Trio tracks as well), in a variety of different styles this is well worth buying. My favourite track is the duet with Oscar Peterson on Honky Tonk Train Blues.

Keiths own sleevenotes give a little insight into each track and the whole CD shows what a great talent the man is.

This was released in 2005, and most of the tracks were recorded around then. Sound quality is mostly good but not excellent. On great CD, on my home stereo, it sounds like the piano is in the same room. You don't get that this CD. It is 63 minutes long.

The real standout here is Emerson playing with the Oscar Peterson big band in 1975. It almost makes this worth getting. The CD ends up with a home recording of Emerson when he was 14. The sound quality isn't that good...just barely listenable....but the performance is still interesting.

The rest of this CD is a mixture of musical styles...from classical, to Creole, to jazz, easy listening, whimsical, and rock. I find much of it to be boring and hard to sit through....like much of the Emerson, Lake and Palmer reunion albums.

I do like about a third of the music on this album. Afterall....he is Keith Emerson, who may have been the best keyboardist in the history of rock. I can never tire of listening to his versions of Hang on to a Dream with the Nice.

My version is from Italy. It comes with a booklet with the liner notes in three languages.

5.0 out of 5 stars Keith Emerson un Artista vero
Reviewed in Italy on May 4, 2023
