Publisher's summary

When special operations veteran DJ Markis finds armed invaders in his home and it all goes sideways, he turns to his brothers in arms to fight back. On the run from the shadowy Company, soon he finds himself in a war for possession of a genetic engineering secret that threatens the stability of the world.

But who is behind it all - and are they even human? Beginning in the world of today, Eden Plague is a futuristic thriller that launches the Plague Wars/Stellar Conquest series, eventually spanning hundreds of years of ground and space warfare, from hand-to-hand combat and covert actions, to Space Marines and interstellar battles.

Awesome Story!

I loved this book. It's a great listen, with great characters, a very interesting plot, and it's performed flawlessly by the narrator. I'm looking forward to hearing the entire saga.

I felt so disconnected from the story

This one was the most difficult book that I’ve read, or in this case listened to, in a long time. I felt so disconnected from the story. The good thing about a book is being able to go back in a paragraph or page if you’re not catching something, but with audio, it is much more difficult if you miss something.

That said, I feel like I missed an entire book. I did not resonate with any of it. I thought I would really enjoy it since it is dystopian but I did not connect with the characters. Had I purchased the book and not requested it I probably would have set it aside. Well, I did set it aside, multiple times, but kept going back to it so I could get the audio review done. Nothing worked for me other than the audio was perfect and the narration was great.

This is much more militaristic than I imagined. That may have been my first hiccup. The way the Eden Plague actually works was very interesting and did peak my curiosity for a while, but then I would lose my place and get mired in the lack of wanting to read it!

So, in short I chalk this up to this book just not being for me. I think someone that enjoys Sci fi with a militaristic view would love this. The ending was rushed a bit but overall it wound up okay.

Creative conflict

Enjoyed out of the box solutions to creative conflicts. Left enough to explain Russian past and twist at end for more conflict. Likeable characters with some depth, but definitely needs a Filipino in the cast.

A so - so book

This book was bad but not the best I've read either. It really seemed to drone on at times and I found myself drifting.

Good first book!

I enjoyed the start of this series, until the end. An element of a science fiction is thrown in there are the end. I am glad it was at the end. Science fiction is really my bag of chips so we will see how long that I can stay with this series.

It has lots of action and a clear good guy versus bad guy. You are pulled into the story and impatient to see the outcome. These guys are really good. I mean they cannot find it within themselves to harm another person, even in defense of themselves. They have that 1960's hippy vibe about loving everyone and everyone should drink the kool-aid to feel good. When you carry a good vibe into a gun fight, guess who will win?

Markis (a very intelligent ex military guy) goes on these soliloquies about the wonders of the kool-aid and how everyone should drink it. Really Markis? You are running your butt off evading the bad guys, getting you butt whipped by the bad guys, and duck and dodging bullets. When are you going to have that epiphany and that military bad ass attitude that kicking asses have to be kicked for a good cause. Kicking assess does mean shooting with the intent to kill.

Suspend your belief of many things... how could ex military and civilians have money and connections to accomplish what they do? You have these little forces of ex military who wreak havoc upon cities all for the let's make peace not war. Like I said, suspend you belief a little.

Will I read the next book or complete the series? Yep until the little green men decided to land on earth. Yep, I want to see when Markis (who had a bad ass killer instinct) will reach the logical conclusion about making friends with the people who don't like the kool aid but they will defend your right to drink the kool-aid, with the intent to kill.

Great start to a new series.

This was a very enjoyable listen. I bought the second installment. I look forward to the rest. Not any overt sex so if your in to that buy fantasy romance. An all round good listen packed with a lot of action. No Zombies were hurt in the making of this book. Ha! Ha! Gotta love that.

W O T

Interesting premise. Executed at an adolescent level. W A Y to slow developing and the ending wasn't an ending. I won't be investing any more in this author.
