"...This gives you true "click and print" ability once you've gotten it set up...." Read more
Customers are mixed about the performance of the mechanical components. Some mention that it works great, while others say that it malfunctions at first. Some say that the sensor works beautifully on all bed types, while other say that they won't work on Creality Ender 3 or 3 Pro. Some customers also mention that the product is temperamental and touchy, and tends to error out more than they would like during printing.
"...Overall, I am extremely pleased with the performance of the BL Touch and, having fixed my loose connection to the mainboard, the unit itself works..." Read more
"...modifications and printing the bracket to mount, this thing works like a champ...." Read more
"...The clones DO have accuracy issues, they ARE unreliable...." Read more
"...for so long ... but this works beautifully on all bed types, is accurate anywhere on the bed, and is consistent over..." Read more
Customers are mixed about the ease of use of the mechanical components. Some mention that it's considerably easier to install and comes with great support, while others say that the setup AFTER the installation is another headache, with no instructions and outrageous time required.

Customers are mixed about the sensor. Some mention it's a great sensor, and can't live without it now. It's not an inductive sensor, so you don't have to worry about thick glass. However, others say that it'll not engage at all and won't respond to commands.
"...The probe will not respond to commands at all...." Read more
"...My Original Prusa is great and it comes with a bed-leveling sensor. I tried a knock-off called "3D Touch"...." Read more

Here's the thing though, DO NOT cheap out and buy one of the clones. Spend the extra to get the genuine BLtouch. The clones DO have accuracy issues, they ARE unreliable. Just like many 3d printer parts you should splurge and get the real deal because the knock offs are unreliable.
Yes, it has moving parts, but if you use it correctly, it should almost never wear out.
Set this up to probe the bed before every print and enjoy your perfect first layers, every time. Just make sure you test it with your finger before you know what you're doing to avoid a bed crash.
Be warned however that it is a major pain to get it to work with some printers, and there's very little to no documentation provided by the manufacturer. Be prepared to spend hours working on trying to get this to work and wondering ... why isnt this working!
Once it works, it's awesome though. Here's a few notes from my experience. I am using Marlin with a Geeetech printer.
- This will require replacing the firmware on your printer. Get out that Arduino editor and download the latest Marlin firmware.
- The sensor's output connects in place of the Z endstop switch. In Marlin, I discovered after fighting for hours that you have to disable the pullup resistor in the Marlin firmware on that endstop for the sensor to be recognized.
- Strongly recommend you look up YouTube videos for how to make the necessary edits for the Marlin firmware and how to calibrate the sensor.
- Recommend programming your slicer's pre-print commands to heat the bed while doing auto level, because this will save some time.
If you decide to proceed with the modification, you will need to adjust the firmware settings and install a new sensor. You will also need to calibrate the sensor's sensitivity to ensure accurate results.
However, it is important to note that modifying the printer may not be necessary. The traditional method of bed leveling using a piece of paper is a reliable and accurate way to achieve good results. It may take a bit more time and effort, but it is a tried and true method that has been used by many 3D printing enthusiasts for years.
