Brittle, lightweight plastic. Beware.

Brittle, lightweight plastic. Beware.
Mine arrived today. I had read that it won't stay in position no matter how tight you screw the extension. This would be great if I could even screw on the extension. The screw piece broke before I could even start twisting it. Super light weight and obviously brittle plastic. I don't recommend this product at all. Bummed I got all excited about this.

I saw some of the concerns mentioned in early reviews so I decided to try and contact the company through the email address on their website. I got a reply within 15 minutes (on a Saturday) telling me that a small batch had a fit issue but that it was resolved quickly and all of the customers who received the first run were taken care of with replacement products. I dialoged with customer support over email (they continued to be really quick with their responses) and felt comfortable placing an order. Because I have many of their other products, I knew that the company was in the business of making top-quality accessories. I received my order quickly and found the product to be just as advertised. The fit was perfect and I am now able to get some killer shots with my camera-- the same shots that blew my mind in the GoPro videos.

GoPole has proven to be a great company-- killer products that are innovative and useful all while having amazing customer support. I'm stoked to see what they make next! If you are thinking about buying their stuff-- just pull the trigger-- when you are watching your footage you will be glad that you did.

Arm came very quickly and at a good price. As with all GoPro extension mounts, I lightly sandpaper the plastic that comes into contact with the GoPro case mounting leaves to help add friction and keep the arm from slipping when the camera is bounced. While this mount works pretty well as a face/helmet extension, it's a bit too flexible to keep from wiggling in a mountain biking scenario, or other extreme uses that involve a lot of jarring from a hard mounting situation. (Like on the seat post of a bike, facing backwards...where we had to tie the camera and extension back to the seat post to keep it from a lot of vertical bouncing)..

This is the older version of the GoPole extension mount. The new, 2 piece unit seems much stiffer, but we did not get a chance to test it in the field.

Like a couple other reviewers, I also notice that the arm will not stay in place no matter how much you tighten the screw if using it for anything that may cause a jarring motion. Anything that can cause a bump like mountain biking, riding a motorcycle, skydiving, snowboarding, jumping up and down lightly, etc... will cause it to fall out of position and be a nuisance. I did notice that it was ok on the camera side attachment for keeping the camera in position, but the mount attachment point was very loose compared to how tight other gopro mounts can get. It still took a little (very little) force to move it when just using my hands but this mount is not good for any kind of extreme sport. I had considered gluing extremely thin rubber gaskets to the attachment point of the arm but then it probably wouldn't fit into the mount so it's really not worth the effort.

May not be as advertised. May be just a shipping error.
1. The product shown is straight. The one I received has a curve to it. It's like a banana.
2. The product shown is able to be connected to itself. I ordered 2. No matter how I connected them, tried with both after market and OEM screws, I couldn't get them to stay rigid. One connected to a mount, with a camera on the end is fine, but you won't be daisy chaining them.

Notes:
1. This is not claimed in their advertisement, but a Q&A says it comes with 2 8" pieces. This is not correct. It comes with 1. Nothing against the company, just something to be aware of.
2. It will not stably hold a Fusion. Not sure how many people are going to be putting a Fusion on the end of it, but if you're going over bumper terrain, or putting it on a boat like I was, it'll will not stay rigid. I'll be testing it in smoother water tonight, but I am not hopeful.
3. The captive bolt makes it really hard to set up. If you have straight pieces where they're all the same, I doubt it'll matter, but on curved pieces it'll be extremely difficult to get the camera exactly where you want it, aince due to the identical pieces, the captive bolts will force you to put the camera a little off to the side, not center line like it typically would be.
4. The plastic is really brittle. Due to the price tag of $20+shipping each I won't be purposefully snapping it, but I don't expect it to last long.

I needed these extension arms to get the best shots at the 3rd of July fireworks show, and a few upcoming adventures ... and am very disappointed in this turn of events. Paid $20+ for 1 day shipping, and they didn't even ship the right item.

Due to my experience here, I'm just going to have a local fab shop crank out a dozen aluminum pieces for me.

Having some mechanical background I was trying to build my own "GoPole", there isn't going to be anything lighter and stronger than a molded piece of plastic. I stopped wasting my time testing my own creations after seeing this and for the price its a great product that works as it should. Seems to be the right length, fits into the gopro mounts just fine and i'd like to see the company come up with some more cool mounts for the GoPro line.

Great construction and rock solid once connected. We used it as an inexpensive Snorricam rig and it worked great. Reversed the arm, connected to the chest mount and got a great shot w/ the person staying steady and be background moving like crazy.

Can't really comment on how it performs on a helmet, but it did a great job for what we needed.

Great procuct, can make good angels for a killer shots!! The only "bad" thing is that sometimes you need to tighten the screw enough to secure it, like a little bit more than usual with other mounts, but it work great.
