Product Description
The K6 Beer Equipment kit includes all the conveniences you get with the K3 kit, like an automatic pump-style siphon, an adhesive thermometer for the primary fermenter, and a full 27-page beginner's guide. But the K6 has a 7.8 gallon bucket and a 6 gallon glass carboy (contrast two, 6.5 gallon buckets in the K3). The 6 gallon glass carboy is good for secondary fermentations, but is big enough to house primary fermentation of a standard 5 gallon batch. The 7.8 gallon bucket is perfect for bottling, and is also a great choice for primary fermentation. Moreover, with these larger-capacity containers, it's possible to brew up to 6 gallons in a single batch. The K6 Beer Equipment Kit includes, 7.8 Gallon Bucket with Drilled & Grommeted Lid, 6 Gallon Glass Carboy with Rubber Stopper, 3-Piece Airlock (for Fermenting Bucket), Adhesive Thermometer (for Fermenting Bucket), Automatic Pump-style Siphon with 5' of flexible tubing, Dual Function Bottle Filler (⅜″ OD), Bottling Spigot with Bottle-fit Spout, Glass, Triple Scale Hydrometer, Twin-lever Capper, Beer Bottle Brush, 8 oz of B-BRITE Cleanser, HandCraft Brewing Guide, Beer Equipment Kit Instructions.

Customers are mixed about the cleaning of the kitchen. Some mention that the bucket, glass container, and all pieces were easy to clean, and the no rinse sanitizer makes things much easier. UPDATE! The Beer has been bottled for 2 weeks and we tested a bottle. It came out amazingly well so now I am even happier with this kit.
The kit came in a nice box that was perfect for wrapping as a gift. It had everything listed and everything seems high quality, it even came with a small homebrew beginners book that should be enough to get you to make the first batch, however I would eventually recommend buying 'The Complete Joy of Homebrewing' as most homebrewers consider it the bible of brewing. I have just bottled my first batch of beer and everything worked great, now I have to stare at it for 2-3 more weeks as it conditions. To the reviewer who said the carboy is only 5 gallons, I have 5 gallon plastic carboys for my fishtank and this is noticably larger, however I have not been able to accurately measure it.
People wishing to get into this hobby should know a few things:
1) You will need to buy a stockpot to boil the wort(unfermented beer). Do not get aluminum as it can impart bad flavors as it reacts to the acidic wort. Do not skimp on this, expect to pay at least $50 for a decent one off amazon. The thicker gage steel, the better.
2) You may need some miscellaneous items like bottlecaps(not included), a grain bag, stirring spoon, ammonia to remove old bottle labels, etc.
3) The kit comes with some bags of special sanitizer, however most people use bleach or other readily available chemicals. Just don't mix chemicals and rinse well.
4) Start saving bottles early! The bottles cannot be screw top and should be brown, not green or clear(light ruins beer). Sam Adams bottles worked best for me, bought a couple 12 packs of their holiday collection. I've heard things about the wing capper breaking thin glass beer bottles, but had no problems. Also, I have been told that old champagne bottles can be capped as well.
5) If you dont like doing dishes, this is not a hobby for you. Scrubbing 50 bottles, the carboy, the bucket, hoses and siphons takes time and patience.
6) If you like to save $$$ and experiment, this IS the hobby for you. Most recipes work out to under .50 for a bottle of beer.
You will receive:
- 5 Gallon Carboy
- 6.5 Gallon Bottling Bucket with Spigot
- Bottle Capper
- Small Packet of Sanitizer
- Small Container of PBW-Similar product for cleaning
- Siphon
- Hydrometer
- Basic Instructional Booklet
You will need to acquire a few more items to make your brew lab complete. You will need to get a brew pot, preferably stainless steel and if you're doing five gallon batches, I'd recommend a 6 gallon (24 quart) pot. You will need beer bottles whether saved or bought, and bottle caps. I'd also recommend not using the siphon and getting an auto-siphon as this will save you headaches if you decide to use a secondary or to transfer from the glass carboy to the bottling bucket.
Overall, this product is a great price for a good portion of what you need but it is not a complete set. I would recommend this for any starter brewmaster.
