Legend of a Gunfighter Kindle Edition

IN A BATTLE OF GOOD VERSUS EVIL, WHO WILL PREVAIL?

An action-packed, captivating western novel by bestselling author Robert Vaughan.

In 1885 Buck Elliot, already a legendary gunfighter, comes to Canyon Diablo, Arizona Territory, to aid a friend and several small, but honest ranchers who must deal with Nigel Smythe, a titled Englishman who is trying to build a fiefdom under the Mogollon Rim. Smythe has hired as many gunfighters as cowboys, using them to force the smaller ranchers out of business, but Buck who has been commissioned an Arizona Ranger by the governor, organizes the small ranchers to defend their rights. In a direct confrontation between Buck, his friends, and the outlaw army of Smythe, good prevails over evil.

A little more than forty years later Buck Elliot, a still-living iconic gunfighter of the Old West, comes to Hollywood to be a technical consultant for LEGEND OF A GUNFIGHTER, a movie about his life. He discovers that the star of the movie, Clive Malone, is more interested in playing himself than he is in portraying the true story. Buck enlists the aid of Ernest Haycox, author of the book from which the movie is to be taken, and they try to get the studio to bring the picture more into line with the truth.

If you like William W. Johnstone and George P. Cosmatos’s Tombstone, you will be engrossed in this unputdownable western.

Anything less than five stars would be disgraceful for a book of this magnitude. Buck, and his compadres, fed grab the reader's undivided attention, leaving little room for anything but high expectations. There is enough excitement to pacify the most decisive desired of all readers.
I was more th a satisfied with the author's selections of characters, as they were perfectly suited for their assigned roles. Smythe, the assigned "villain," definitely played his assignment as well as anyone. Too the stories were family-friendly and wholesome. Too, the assigned storylines were perfectly assigned and there were very impressively detailed and descriptive.
The mentioning of some real movie, and American folklore legends, definitely enhanced my interest to continue in-depth interest throughout the entire story. I, without hesitation, recommend this very compassionate masterpiece, to anyone attuned to old western folklore adventures, as there is enough excitement and gunplay to satisfy anyone's desire. Too, the anticipation and entertainment never ceased to maintain my interest. Give this book a try, as I can assure you, it will certainly be an exceptionally talented and heartwarming experience for any reader, regardless of your normal preferences.

The author was able to weave a plausible story together involving two time periods approximately 40 years apart, both periods involving the main character, Buck Elliott. Very well done.

True page turner. The characters are well developed and the story told with believable depths. I'm add this author on to my favorites list

This was a good Western, but not particularly great. A kind of different idea switching back and forth between the actual adventures of a legendary gunfighter and the later making of an early motion picture of his life and how the movie differed from the actual circumstances. To me, the actual gunfighter was a little too good and got in and out of situations a little too easily. Just not enough realism in the story. But, still not a bad read.

At first I thought it was going to be abook about making a western movie , but when the plot unfolded, it was entertaining and exciting jumping from the old days to somewhat more modern times, telling two stories at the same time..I can recommend it as a good read.

I enjoyed the character. Nice all around story. I hope to see more books to read of the Buck Elliot character.

This western must have been a challenge for Robert Vaughan to write. The story line shifts from the past to the present Hollywood and a movie being made of the main character's life, The script emulates his past deeds, but as he always does. Vaughan has managed to write a very different but enjoyable western.

A pity that this book is really in two parts the old and the New would have been better if it had been in two separate stories
