Here is the hard part and how I managed it. The system required a regulator to keep the pressure where it needed to be and I've forgotten the pressure cause this was six months ago. Needless to say, the regulator was over kill because the system has a regulator and the propane running in is also regulated to the psi required for household appliances. But, being a novice means being really really really sure of what I'm doing. I am 98% sure I didn't need a regulator.... But 2% sure was all I needed to install one ($55) to be 100% sure it won't break or blow up! Breaking is bad, blowing up is worse!
Another problem was all the pipes didn't fit! Ha! Ha! Where is my plumbing truck with all my fittings? Oh, I'm a novice so I went the hardware store (actually two hardware stores which made things delightful - I cussed like a sailor.....). But guess how much money I saved? The cheapest plumber wanted $3,000 dollars for the install and wanted to put his own odhwh in. Said it would take him, and him alone one day, two days max.... Three grand is great money. I guess these plumbers ride around all day giving super high bids and waiting for some poor old lady to fleece. Anyway, I checked his quality and his hwh got three amazon stars and a bunch of "this is a crappy water heater", and his was a name brand! So, I did it myself. I am a sailor so I cussed like one. But I did it! And it works great. I actually took a bath... Ha ha... It's been many years... Now I might take a bath monthly... Naww! Did I say I cussed like a sailor?
Here is what I really like: I can set this on my temperature and run the water at that temp. And yes, it can be really hot if you want it hot. I've got it set at 105 degrees unless I'm doing dishes and I crank it up past 125 degrees. I think the maximum is 160 which is hotter than a .... Tomahawk screaming toward some baby killer... Go Trump Go! Let's get that fat moron in N. Korea real soon too!
This takagi replaced a larger, more expensive, less reliable, and much noisier model in our home. When running the fan is audible only if you cock an ear towards it if you have it mounted in a closet as we do. Outside the exhaust is noticeable but that is not even a consideration. LP usage has gone so far to the low end, my provider of LP wants to increase my cost per gallon unless I install another LP monitor or fireplace to keep my usage levels up.
Installation of the actual heater and cleaning valves was done by a master plumber even though it would have been doable for an amateur plumber, my biggest hassle was the cost of the stainless steel exhaust venting and making it work for holes in the wall from previous installations of different sized water heaters. LP plumbing was done by a master gas tech so we could add piping to install a cast iron gas heater/stove in another room at the same time. This is something you should pay a pro to do no matter how comfortable you are with your home improvement skills. If there is a major problem, your homeowners policy will probably not cover it if you installed it.

If you are on a farm or process birds At 145 f you can use water from tap to direct scald the chicken turkey or duck in no time to get feathers off at 170 and thermo Stat control it can be used to sterilize knives and other meat handling stuff.
Compared to our other instant hot water (eco max) it does same job a bit better but for 30%less propane.
