    Photography is expensive =P
First off, im no professional, just an extreme hobbyist. I just got this today and the auto focus on my D3200 was way off at 1.4. Unfortunately the D3200 does not have AF Fine Tune option, so I was tasked with manually dialing in the 24mm via the screw under the mirror in the light box. 6 hours of fun, considering how sensitive that screw is at f1.4. Literally 1 inch depth of field.WARNING! ADJUST THE SCREW AT YOUR OWN RISK! IT IS NOT RECOMMENDED TO OPEN YOUR LIGHT BOX AND MIRROR TO MAKE MANUAL ADJUSTMENTS! THE SENSOR IS APPROXIMATELY 5MM AWAY FROM THE SCREW!I got it as close as I possible could with the slightest bit of back focus. I cant stress enough how sensitive that screw is. Although now my other lenses are even sharper, so apparently you may never notice an out of focus auto focus if you shoot 2.8 or lower.First pic, f1.4, iso 100, 1/400, 3 feet away. As shot. Second pic, same, as shot, 100% crop. No post except crop.Im very happy with my purchase and I cant wait to get my D850.As far as cost goes, it's very expensive. Is it worth it? For me, not really, Im a hobbyist. I want the best, so I got the best. You could always get a used one, but then you really dont know if someone dropped it. Or take your chances with a "refurbished", from what ive read, people send these back thinking the lens is out of focus, when the camera needs to be calibrated. So Nikon gets it back, tests it, finds nothing wrong and drops the price just because it was opened.

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite lens from day one...
Reviewed in the United States on December 12, 2011
I have been using the 24mm 1.4 over 6 months. It is by far my favorite lens. As a reference point, I also own 50mm 1.4, 24-70 2.8, and 35mm 1.8.
    Pros:
    1. For me the top reason to buy this lens is debt of field control. I love this lens for environmental portraits, where I want my subject/s in focus and the surrounding area in view but less pronounced.
    2. Low light shooting at 1.4 is great. But I don't wait for low lint to shoot at f1.4. Image quality on this lens wide open is excellent. No compromises at all. With the excellent high iso performance available and excellent flashes, I do not have to rely on this lens for low light performance to be honest. But it does have the advantage when needed.
    3. Very low distorsion, if any. Especially on a DX body where it functions as a 35mm, it requires no correction for distorsion. This means less photoshop work.
    4. Given it's quality, I would consider it light. Don't get me wrong it is a heavy lens but it is half the size and weight of the 24-70 2.8.
    5. 24 1.4 focuses faster than my 50 and 35.
    6. It is very sharp at all apertures.

This is an excellent lens on FX or DX bodies. If you like wide angle, this is going to be your favorite lens, go for it...
    I hope this helps
