You are out of the loop, James has been at LMG for a little while now. IIRC James and others recently finished a probationary period so Linus is happy for them to be more publicly present

I found in my personal experience on my HTC 10 and OnePlus Two, both of the USB Type C connectors failed on their own and had to be repaired under warranty.

 

I never had this problem with micro usb that I recall but still. Take this with a grain of salt.

 

Edit: I get this is entirely anecdotal

Oh my God, I cannot believe that stupid piece of shit disgrace of connector manage to survive 8000 insertions, the ones I've used on external hard drives start to break around 100(with me being very gentle when inserting/pulling out). Whoever designed USB 3.0 micro B and decided to put it on external hard drives, can rot in hell. On the other hand I've never had issues with USB 2.0 micro B, and I'm yet to use type C.

NO! It's art, it's colonialism and you'll never get it!

How long did you use each for? I'm coming up on a year and a half with my Nexus 6P and I haven't had any problems with the connector.
