It's a little smaller than I expected, but the build quality makes up for that! Probably the BEST knife I have ever purchased!

This is actually my second 940 I’ve owned. My first one was non-serrated and now resides in my work truck. And will still see everyday use. I decided to get the same model but serrated this time for cutting seat belts, belts, ties, ropes etc. No doubt the non serrated could do it as well, but honestly I wanted an excuse to buy another.

The blade material is perfect, in my opinion. I’m rough on my blades, and they see everyday use. Whether it’s from cutting ropes, cable ties, boxes, honestly the list goes on and on. I’ve had to sharpen it four times in four years. I never managed to even nick the blade. This blade has a HRC of 59-61. To me, that’s the perfect hardness for a long lasting blade. It’s hard enough to keep a nice sharp and uniform blade, but not so hard that it’ll chip or just break outright. You’d have to seriously be putting a lot of pressure on it to break it.

It opens very easily, even after years of use, with very little cleaning and lubricating. The tolerances on the hardware are excellent, and still there is no looseness in the action whatsoever.

The handle is carbon fiber. So it makes the entire weight very low. For me it’s the perfect length that allows me to get an excellent purchase on it, even with thick gloves on. It’s very well balanced, in general. The balance point is damn near center of the opened knife. Which to me speaks volumes for the quality of a knife.

I’m sure at some point I’ll find another reason to purchase another 940. These are some of the best knives I currently own in regards to a general purpose knife.

This is a great knife in all respects. Sharp, light, thin, easy and fast open and close. It's my backup EDC because I prefer the 943SBK blade design since it has a sharper tip and more of a rounded edge to work with, whereas with this model a greater part of the plain edge is straight not slightly curved. Both are longer than 3 inches but if you like to carry a slightly larger blade both this and the 943SBK are thin and light and easy to carry in a back or side pocket. Also the blade is stainless not black if that matters (black is more discreet at night but if we have to worry about that frankly we're in big trouble). I like the fact that it's very light and the handle design is a bit more interesting than the plain black of the 943SBK. But I just prefer the latter's blade. Personal choice. You can't go wrong.

What a spectacular knife this is. I had started with a Spyderco Delica 4, but didn't like its ergonomics (the thumb hole makes the blade and the collapsed package very wide) nor its blade/handle length ratio. I have heard nothing but positive reviews about this knife, so I bought one while cringing at its price.

When it arrived, I was impressed with its build quality. The carbon scales are extremely well made. The blade is centered and wiggle-free. The only complaint I had about its build is that the scale screws protrude into the open space where the blade resides. I removed each screw, ground it down, and reinstalled them.

Unfortunately, I lost this knife traveling about a year ago. After mourning its loss for about 7 months, I couldn't resist any longer and repurchased the 940 model without serrations. I've always had serrations in the past, but I've been pretty happy with both models. This unit is just as well built, and also as those screws too long. Other than that, it holds an edge very well and I use it every day. In fact, I get in trouble all too often when I go to concerts, the airport, etc. and forget that it's in my pocket. It's just that light.

I have always had "good" pocket knives, which I keep very sharp, but I've never spent the money for a really great knife, with exceptional steel, until ordering this one! I finally decided to upgrade my EDC knife, and this one was everything I have been looking for. Besides a great look and shape, this baby is built with absolute "top of the line" components. It is extremely light and comfortable in the hand, and although it takes longer to sharpen because of the quality of the steel, it holds its edge much longer than my cheaper knives. It opens very smooth and easily, and locks open securely. The only way it could be faster would be if it was an assisted opening knife, but even then it wouldn't be much faster.I can't really see any future need to ever replace this knife, unless I loose it! This is a great knife at a great price, well below MSRP!

Beautiful knife, impossible to use as an EDC. You might be able to open it with one hand, if your hands are XS. The thumb wheels are useless, pretty darn tiny! I use a Gerber Covert daily and I can open it quickly with either hand. I thought this would be an upgrade to the Gerber due to the aesthetics and the steel upgrade. Great knife for the toolbox or maybe a gift for my kid, but not suited for EDC if you are over 5 feet tall!

The absolute best EDC blade I have ever owned. It is light and the blade is very strong / sharp.
A warning: carbon fiber is brittle. It fell from my hand 4 feet onto asphalt 30 minutes after getting it in the mail, and now it is chipped forever.
If you take care of it, using it lightly, I expect it to last an eternity.

I’ve had the same EDC for ten years, a Leatherman H520.. it’s a great knife, and was more than just a pocket knife. Recently went away with some friends, and forgot my knife.. my buddy lent me his, which was the Benchmade-940-1... as we all know leatherman are nice, but are brickes, and nowhere near the quality...I was blown away by the weight and the blade... I’ve always heard about Benchmade, but was happy with what I had... when I got home I ordered this, it’s not a knife I would use for heavy outdoor stuff, but since I work from home and mainly use it to open boxes and letters, pealing apples, stuff like that, this knife is perfect to become my new EDC... the weight and easy opening, with an incredibly sharp blade is perfect.
