The blade material is perfect, in my opinion. I’m rough on my blades, and they see everyday use. Whether it’s from cutting ropes, cable ties, boxes, honestly the list goes on and on. I’ve had to sharpen it four times in four years. I never managed to even nick the blade. This blade has a HRC of 59-61. To me, that’s the perfect hardness for a long lasting blade. It’s hard enough to keep a nice sharp and uniform blade, but not so hard that it’ll chip or just break outright. You’d have to seriously be putting a lot of pressure on it to break it.
It opens very easily, even after years of use, with very little cleaning and lubricating. The tolerances on the hardware are excellent, and still there is no looseness in the action whatsoever.
The handle is carbon fiber. So it makes the entire weight very low. For me it’s the perfect length that allows me to get an excellent purchase on it, even with thick gloves on. It’s very well balanced, in general. The balance point is damn near center of the opened knife. Which to me speaks volumes for the quality of a knife.
I’m sure at some point I’ll find another reason to purchase another 940. These are some of the best knives I currently own in regards to a general purpose knife.
When it arrived, I was impressed with its build quality. The carbon scales are extremely well made. The blade is centered and wiggle-free. The only complaint I had about its build is that the scale screws protrude into the open space where the blade resides. I removed each screw, ground it down, and reinstalled them.
Unfortunately, I lost this knife traveling about a year ago. After mourning its loss for about 7 months, I couldn't resist any longer and repurchased the 940 model without serrations. I've always had serrations in the past, but I've been pretty happy with both models. This unit is just as well built, and also as those screws too long. Other than that, it holds an edge very well and I use it every day. In fact, I get in trouble all too often when I go to concerts, the airport, etc. and forget that it's in my pocket. It's just that light.
A warning: carbon fiber is brittle. It fell from my hand 4 feet onto asphalt 30 minutes after getting it in the mail, and now it is chipped forever.
If you take care of it, using it lightly, I expect it to last an eternity.
