The Wind in the Willows is a children's novel by Kenneth Grahame, first published in 1908. Alternately slow moving and fast paced, it focuses on four anthropomorphised animals in a pastoral version of England. The novel is notable for its mixture of mysticism, adventure, morality, and camaraderie and celebrated for its evocation of the nature of the Thames valley. In 1908 Grahame retired from his position as secretary of the Bank of England. He moved back to Cookham, Berkshire, where he had been brought up and spent his time by the River Thames doing much as the animal characters in his book do—namely, as one of the phrases from the book says, "simply messing about in boats"—and wrote down the bed-time stories he had been telling his son Alistair.

Amazing illustration! This is a review of the book itself not the story. Thanks

We already know and love the story, but we were looking for a book with good illustration. This book is an excellent print with amazing illustrations!I think, illustration, are just as important as the story to keep kids interested. I have included some photos to help others decide. We purchased the Hard Cover book, new, for $6.45, its a great deal indeed. Thank you so much! We are very pleased.

The illustrations are superb. The prose are as well. I always wanted to read it so I bought it to read to my grandson. He’s not interested but I am enjoying the book.

I wasn’t sure if this would live up to my expectations but it exceeded them. I remember Wind in the Willows from my childhood and am always looking for new books to add into my child’s even book routine so I bought this.

The illustrations are fantastic and the book quality is great. The story is honestly a little more old fashion than I remember it (it’s been 20+ years since the last time I read it) but my daughter seems to like it and I’m enjoying reading it to her.

Classic and wholesomely dry British tales of observation and friendship will have you yawning and eyes drooping within half a page.

Beautiful book, and glorious illustrations. Takes me back to my childhood when I read this book with my Mom. A classic...well worth adding to your forever library.

The illustrations are truly lovely. Beautifully done. However, they were a little dark for my taste. I'm a huuuuuuge Wind in the Willows fan, it's my go-to when I am anxious or worried and I need to escape for a bit into a happy little animal world. So I was excited for the beautiful illustrations, but they had a dark, shadowy feel and I didn't like it. For example, the characters are tall and thin like humans, versus being happy little fat creatures. And their eyes were often in the shadows, deepset and dark. Just not my thing. But it really is a beautiful book and if you're not such a sensitive soul as me you'll probably love it.

I bought this beautiful illustrated copy for my husband who did not know Wind in the Willows growing up. He is 84 and his parents came to Canada from Denmark. It is a BEAUTIFUL book and once he has read it I intend to reread it. Good delivery service and price.
