Directions
Keep it Clean: Regularly clean your band and wrist—especially after working out or sweating. Rinse the band with water or wipe it with a small amount of rubbing alcohol. Do NOT use hand soap, body soap, dish soap, hand sanitizers, cleaning wipes or household cleaners which could get trapped beneath the band and irritate skin. Always dry the band well before putting it back on. Keep it Dry: While Fitbit devices are water resistant*, it’s not good for your skin to wear a wet band for long periods of time. If your elastomer band gets wet—like after sweating or showering—rinse and dry it thoroughly before putting it back on your wrist. Be sure your skin is dry before you put your band back on. Don’t Wear It Too Tight: Make sure your band isn’t too tight. Wear the band loosely enough that it can move back and forth on your wrist. If you use Fitbit products with Purepulse Heart Rate tracking, for better heart rate readings during exercise, we suggest wearing the band so it’s secure, but not too tight, and wearing the band higher on your wrist (about 2-3 finger widths above your wrist bone). Lower the band on your wrist and loosen it after exercise. Give Your Wrist a Rest: Prolonged rubbing and pressure may irritate the skin, so give your wrist a break by removing the band for an hour after extended wear. I'm going to share my experience with this product. Let me start with my motivation for purchasing this product.
I am an engineer and spend a majority of my time in a room that does not allow cell phones. You can bring the cell phone in, but you cannot take it out unless you go to another adjacent room to check. This doesn't work for me, as my phone constantly searches for a signal and then threatens to die after an hour. (Yet other peoples phones don't. Lucky them). I found myself missing out on people trying to get in touch with me by my phone, since they can't seem to find me anywhere by calling around. So i was hoping to find a smart watch that can notify me of messages, so when i receive one, i can glance at the content, and then leave the room to take care of it.
I purchased this product at BestBuy only because i wanted it right away. (Yes, i couldn't wait two days using my Prime). They have a price match guarantee.
Here's my observations, thoughts, what i learned:
You have to download the Fitbit app on your phone in order to use your fitbit blaze. Your phone will search for your near by Fitbit blaze and it will find it (right away, for me). My Fitbit came with maybe 25% charge, so that night, i plugged it in over night (no i dont know how long it takes for a full battery charge yet). (Yes- 25% goes a long way- stay tuned).
Once you download the App, from there you can set some settings. The first thing i really wanted to do though, was set it up so i could receive text message notifications. When you swipe on the Fitbit Blaze, you won't see a module for text messages. In fact, the messages are 'hidden'. If you click on the left button, the clock (an analog clock (which can be changed to digital - stay tuned)) will show. If you then swipe UP, the messages will appear. BUT you have to set it up on your PHONE FIRST in order to see this. Go to your phone, go to settings, and then notifications and change the notifications so that when it POPS UP, you will see the message. If you have it so that it just notifies you of a message (example: 1 Message from Gloria) then that's all you'll see. But if you want to see the content, you have to tell your phone to show you the content. I have an LG G4 phone, and in order to do this for MY phone, i had to go to the actual messaging app and then go to the settings there.
Here are my instructions for LG G4 messaging app:
Click on messaging app
Click on the three vertical dots on the top right
Click settings
Click Notification
Click the check mark boxes (All three)
Now you've set it up so that you see the content of the message. Now you have to allow the Fitbit blaze to connect with bluetooth on your phone. In your (LG G4) phone go to settings then "Bluetooth" and add Blaze.
Your messages should work now. Only three messaging apps work for Fitbit blaze right now. LINE, which i constantly use, does not work with Fitbit blaze as of yet.
The messaging apps compatible with Fitbit blaze are:
(This may be special for my phone - not sure)
1. Hangouts
2. Message+
3. Messaging
(4. My Verizon)
If someone sends you a message, you'll feel a small vibration. It's really gentle, and you can't hear it. At least i can't. To choose which app you want and use, go to your Fitbit Blaze app, then tap on the BLAZE ICON (It has a pic of the blaze, and says Firmware Version .... etc). You'll see it there.
To change the CLOCK:
I didn't care for the analog default and wanted to change it to digital. To do this... go to the APP, click on the blaze pic again, then go to "Clock Display". They have 4 displays
1. "POP" - this one has big numbers "1258" and three small icons (black background)
2. "ZONE"- numbers (orange background)
3. "Original" - the default analog
4. "Flare" - numbers in middle with colored dots surrounding (that grow in length as you more around) with a black background (shown in picture)
It can monitor your sleep too, and wake you with an alarm if you set it. (To set the alarm, keep swiping right until you see Alarm)
To monitor your sleep, go to the App and it will be under Dashboard.
You can see the time by flicking your wrist towards you ( or away i suppose - but thats weird). Now i toss and turn at night, so this was a little irritating. However, you can disable that by going to settings ON YOUR BLAZE (not your phone). So i disable it every night, takes me three seconds.
I believe this is DAY THREE and i started with a full charge and have had it on basically all day and used it all day, and it's still got half a battery. I was skeptical and worried it wouldnt work for me since i have to go from my office, to that room with no phones and i thought maybe it'd spend all its time trying to find my phone that it would drain out. But it doesn't and it hasn't. Theres a concrete wall between my office and that other room (I'm probably anywhere from 30 feet to 70 feet away.... so far so good). We have lots of equipment (It's an production area), and it so far as not interfered or killed my battery.
Last thing i want to say... when i set it up so that my Fitbit Blaze can UNLOCK my phone.... it left my phone unlocked all the time. I THOUGHT it would just allow me to unlock my phone from a distance, but otherwise remain locked when not in use. Not true. So if i left my phone out in my office, as i always do, anyone could have grabbed it and used it. So i disabled that feature.
Okay, last last thing i promise: My other motivation to get this watch was for exercise. I'm trying to get in better shape and am hoping that seeing how many steps i take, my heart beat, and all tracking features of my fitbit will motivate me to keep going. I haven't gone to the gym as of yet... so in terms of how i like it as an exercise-aid watch, that review will come soon.
(Oh and one of my pictures i put one of those plastic guards on top because i wanted to keep from scratching it. I did a TERRIBLE job with doing it and messed it up pretty bad... so there are bubbles and little irritating specs of dust in it. Sigh)

The other major update was a feature Fitbit said the Blaze would have, which is the reminder to move feature. You can program in your work hours on your phone, and about 10 minutes before the end of an hour, if you haven't taken 250 steps in that hour, the Blaze will buzz and let you know it's time to get up and walk around for a few minutes. It's relatively unobtrusive and a good reminder to get -- however, it's a little problematic in keeping me updated about how close to that 250 I am if I don't get up right away. But it does buzz again once you hit the 250 even if it doesn't tell you how many steps away you are when you look at the watch face.
Overall, great additional features! I'm getting a lot of use out of the watch and think it's a good tester for me to now know if I'd be okay with a full blown smart watch in the future. Maybe once they start making them prettier.
==Original review==
Great watch! I appreciate the people who say that it's not a smart watch, it's a fitness tracker first, because that's what it is. I like how I can link notifications so I can read texts and whatnot on the watch, but you have to get out your phone to reply, and it doesn't get emails or Facebook notifications. I do get google calendar alerts on it which is a bonus. As long as you understand that it's not trying to be an apple watch, you should be fine.
I was worried originally that it would be too big for my narrow wrists, but it looks fine and even better now that I got a leather band for it so I can wear it with my nicer outfits.
Just a note to others, I struggled for a while with the notifications before eventually realizing that when I had my phone (Nexus 5x) on silent, notifications wouldn't go through to the watch. I keep it on vibrate now instead and haven't had any problem receiving notifications.

I've had the product just over a week and I have zero regrets, it is amazing. When my charge 1 died, I very briefly looked into other fitness tracker brands but of course I ended back at Fitbit. The app used with the device is the most user friendly and gives you heaps of information in easily digestible visually attractive ways. The app also syncs with a number of other good apps such as MyFitness Pal and FitStar.
Compared to my original Charge HR 1, the Blaze seems to track my heart rate so much more accurately (charge 1 used to think I was dead if my HR went over 130, which it easily does when doing any moderate exercise!) and has so much more functionality. You can quickly swipe to your daily overview to see where you are in relation to your daily steps/activity/distance/cals burned/floors climbed goals. The exercise tracking functions are amazing. I used to use my charge 1 to track yoga workouts for example and it would give me really inaccurate data and would think that I had walked 2km worth of steps. On the Blaze, it has a dedicated setting to track yoga which works brilliantly. You can also track weights sessions, runs, treadmill runs, bike rides, hikes etc. For outdoor runs, hikes and bike rides, you can use the watch in conjunction with your phone's GPS to get even more information on your hike. At the end of the workout, it shows you a little map of your hike and a load of other interesting stats.
The Blaze also has a guided breathing/relaxation mode, which at first I thought would be lame, but actually, it is brilliant and really does work to calm me down, especially if I am stressing out at work about deadlines etc. Another thing I love about the Blaze is that it has a few mini Fitstar workouts (10 min abs, a 7 min HIIT workout, a warm up) pre programmed into it, with countdown timers and little GIFS showing you what to do. Sometimes I get home from work and I cannot face going back out to the gym but feel like I should do something at home. With the little Fitstar workouts, I can get a few circuits in at home and feel like I've done something, without having to sit down and work out which exercises I'm going to do and for how long. I actually use the 10 minute abs at the gym as well at the end of a session.
The Blaze itself looks sleek and beautiful and I've had lots of compliments on it. I was worried it was going to be HUGE on my tiny child like wrists (I am a 5 ft 1 25 y/o who has about 4.5 to 5 inch wrists - I can wrap my thumb around my wrist to my pinky finger very easily). It is definitely big, but it is certainly not TOO big. What's more important (and what sold it for me) is that it is soooooo comfy to wear. The strap is really soft and flexible, nothing like my old Charge HR1 strap with was rigid, hard and made my skin clammy!
So, all in all, 10/10 would buy again, love it.
