Great monitor for work and play

Great monitor for work and play
I was looking for a 144hz monitor for gaming, but I also wanted to use it as my 3rd monitor for work. I specifically didnt want a TN panel because of them not being great at viewing angles, plus VA panels have better color reproduction for work. I have been a loyal Samsung buyer for 10 years for monitors and TVs and have never been disappointed, this monitor is no exception. It looks great and should last, will keep using Samsung till they let me down somehow. I havent had a curved monitor but it seems fine and seems great for gaming. I also paired with the Amazon monitor arm and that makes adjusting it around my desk very easy. As a side not Amazon says there is a newer model of this but I looked at it and it appears to not have VESA mounting which is why I went with this one.

This significantly improved my gameplay. I am absolutely stunned how smooth my games run. The upgrade from 60 to 144Hz make my eyes feel refreshed. This gave me the same ecstatic feeling as switching from hard drive to solid state (SSD) (If you haven’t upgraded to an SSD, leave this page and do that! Then you will understand my analogy). My reactions are quicker and my mouse movement feels more responsive thus making me more accurate. I was never at the level of gameplay I wanted to be at. With this monitor, it is now possible to keep up with all the other players who had faster reactions than me in the past. Do yourself, your eyes and your gaming life a favor, make the step to 144 Hz if you haven’t already. My next step is 244Hz and I’m already itching for it after having this monitor for a month!

    Likes:
The curved monitor - a nice feature that is way more than I expected. Glad I made the transition from flat to curved.
The user interface/controls - simple and easy to use.
The stand - easy to assemble and it’s very thin so it doesn’t take up that much desk space.
Included accessories/packaging - The monitor came with an HDMI and a DVI cable and the overall product design of the boxes looked beautiful. Shout out to the designers who made it.
Onboard User Settings/Modes - The monitors presets are great and the eye-saver mode is perfect for studying. I am on my computer for hours of time because of gaming, photo editing, designing, studying, etc. The different presets can be fully customized and it’s easy to switch between the 3 custom settings you can save. I have one set up for gaming, editing and studying.

    Dislikes:
The colors - they aren’t accurate, of course this can be fixed with tweaks. Upon initial start up, the reds were very high. I spent a lot of time playing with different color settings which is important for me because I edit photos on my computer. This has a major influence on the appearance on my images.
The price - I feel like I could have went with a cheaper 144Hz monitor and been just as satisfied. However, no regrets still, I only wanted to state that for anyone who may be juggling between a cheaper monitor and this one.
FreeSync - which is not compatible with my GTX 1060. If you care about this, make sure the monitor you have is compatible with your GPU. AMD = FreeSync, Intel = G-Sync.

If an HDMI cable is your preferred hardware, be sure to have a 4.1 HDMI or higher to use the full refresh rate of 144Hz on this monitor. Upon initial boot of my monitor, I spent some time trying to find out why my maximum refresh rate was 120Hz. I switched to DVI and the issue was solved but I can see how this may irk some people if they are die hard HDMI users. Since I don’t have a commitment to them, DVI works fine for me. I expect Samsung to provide an HDMI cable that is fully compatible with 144Hz, but that isn’t the case. Not a big deal to me though.

Overall, I highly recommend upgrading to a 144Hz monitor, regardless if you go with this one or not. Samsung delivered a great product that I am not disappointed with at all, my dislikes are minor. If you have the money, do it, you will not regret it. I will make more updates to this in the future as my relationship develops with my monitor.

TLDR: Great monitor, on the expensive side but I don't expect anything less from Samsung. 144Hz is absolutely game changing. The curve is subtle yet makes a huge difference in my gaming experience. Comes with all the cables necessary to connect straight out of the box, I'm not sure if this is a standard when purchasing a new monitor but someone might appreciate it as much as I did. This is a FreeSync (AMD) monitor, which is useless to me. If I were to go back in time, I'd probably do more research to find a G-Sync (Intel) monitor.

I bought this to replace a perfectly good 24" 60hz LED/LCD monitor that I was using. Was trying to decide between a smaller Gsync for more $$, and this 27" curved. It is Freesync ready, which I can't take advantage of since I use an Nvidia GTX1060 G1 6Gb (OC'd). But the compromise was worth it. Going from 60hz to 144hz removed the stuttering and occasional tearing in some games.

    Cons:
Gave it 4/5 stars for picture because of a band of pixels in the lower left with a slightly lower shade. It is noticeable in certain situations depending on the background colors, but otherwise don't really notice it unless I look directly at it. And that's when I look at my FPS counter in the lower left corner, otherwise in general use never see it.

    Pros:
Stand foot is large but well designed. Inverted V design which supports the panel without the bulky square footprint leaving desktop space. The stand has cable hide, so I have routed my DP and USB through that for looks. The USB cable is not for the monitor, it is for charging my headset. The stand extends above the panel mount providing a convenient place to hang and charge headset all while being out of sight. There are also a couple of programmable display mode buttons for quick and easy switching if you wish. And one little detail that I really like: the power light on the front is small and dim, and most importantly turns off when the monitor is powered on, so no distracting light.

    Summary:
Great 1080 144hz monitor for those that are not looking at 4k and Nvidia users not wanting to pay the $$ for Gsync. If you have an AMD Freesync GPU then here ya go. I am very happy with this purchase. Would recommend.

Monitor has amazing picture quality for 144hz. This VA panel is much better than TN panel monitors; hardly had to tweak the color settings to get it looking great. The curve is only very slight and a not really noticeable when viewing the monitor straight on; it's a welcome addition. Taking a star off because the stand is very awkward and poorly designed for such a high end monitor. Honestly I have never had an issue with the stand on any monitor I have ever used until this one. It's not the most stable (although apparently better than the CFG70 style) and the feet stick forward a huge amount; much more so than it appears in the picture. They stick forward so far and the stand itself is so deep, that the keyboard and mouse end up having to be at least 3-4 inches further from the screen than a typical stand. I tried for two weeks to get used to it and could never get my mouse and keyboard in a comfortable position. The monitor itself was so good that I did not bother returning it. I was able to use the included VESA (75mm standard) adapter and make it work with the stand from my previous Dell monitor. If you like to sit close to your monitor and have your keyboard and mouse directly under the screen, you will likely need to buy a different stand or a monitor arm. The quality of the panel is still worth this setback it in my opinion, but just be aware about the potential issues with the stand before you buy. If Samsung shipped this thing with a nice sturdy, compact stand (such as the Dell ones which have a short depth) they would have a 5-star product here.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very nice monitor
Reviewed in Canada on December 19, 2018
This monitor is a VA panel, but with a much better response time than any other VA panel I have encountered. The monitor I recieved had no major defects, there is a little bit of backlight bleed around the edges, but almost all monitors have some level of backlight bleed.

    Pros:
-Very vivid colours, the colours just pop out much more than a TN panel is capable of producing.

-The contrast is very high compared to any other monitor I have used, dark games like Dark souls, Doom and Dead space look great on this monitor, better than a TN or IPS panel.

-The reponse time seems very good, I do not play competitive FPS games but in anything I have played so far I have not noticed any ghosting.

-The on screen display is very nice for this monitor and allows you to save multiple profiles.

-The monitor has been factory colour calibrated, the default calibration is very good, much better than previous monitors I have used that require a lot of tweaking to get correct.

-Movies look great on this monitor, the contrast and colours make for a much better viewing experience than any other monitor I have used.

    Cons:

-Minor backlight bleeding around the edges

Overall this is a really nice monitor. If you are a gamer who also cares about their monitor being nice for things other than pure response time (TN panels are inherintly better at this) then this monitor is a great choice. The ghosting is not noticeable to me at all, perhaps if you brought out a high speed camera or are a highly competitive FPS gamer it might be noticable, but it is much faster than my much older panel. Another thing worth mentioning is that I have seen a few posts regarding text blurryness on this monitor. To me the text looks fairly accurate on the monitor, it's not the best I have ever seen, IPS panels usually are the best at producing clear text, but it is definitly not a deal breaker. I have seen other gaming monitors with much MUCH worse text sharpess issues (XG2401 is pretty bad for this in my opinion).

Reviewed in India on April 10, 2019
So beginning from the build quality it is good as you know Samsung products are known for a good build quality, then the screen size is perfect for gaming, it provides you with Max 143hz of refresh rate when you use the display port, if you'll use HDMI the max refresh rate will be 120hz and you'll receive the max performance when you will connect it with the GPU socket. The curved monitor is just for hype, it is curved but the curve hardly matters in monitors of this size i.e. 24 inch, the cons of this product would be no backlight as you get in cfg70 and the wire management plastic part on the back can't insert the display port wire and wall mount which you get with this is useless as it's not safe to mount this monitor as it is heavy, but this is cheaper than most of the 144hz monitors from HP and Acer, and I can say for sure it's the best looking 24 inch 144hz monitor in this price range, if you want good looks with backlit you can also see HP25x it has same price.
All in all a great product and a good value for money.
Amazon delivered it in 4 days instead of expected 7 so no complains there.

QLED is amazing for colors, the brightness and clarity are excellent. I'm coming from a fully calibrated Dell professional Ultrasharp and this monitor is better.

I also play CSGO competitivly and the 1ms MBR mode is amazing and has no motion blur. I would recommend it for esports. For regular gaming 144hz and Freesync are a killer duo and it does have LFC(low framerate compensation) - so don't let the 70-144hz Freesync range scare you. LFC will make it smooth all the way down to 30's.

Having said that - I got mine in 'very good' condition from Amazon warehouse for $250CAD. But the monitor had a glowing outline on the panel under certain conditions, so its out for warranty repair. Samsung offers 3years on it and will pay for shipping.

However; if you can get it at a good discount, this is as good as it they come. I've looked at IPS and TN but this is best of all worlds with the QLED colors that pop - you will find yourself amazed at how it is even possible to show colors like that. Also, deep deep blacks(VA contrast) and 1ms MBR strobe mode for epsort FPS. Movies look amazing on it and there is depth and clarity to the panel because Samsung used a semi-matt coating, not full matt like other panels that make the monitor look 'foggy' and grey.

Also it is factory calibrated to 2.2 gamma and ~2deltaE. There is no color banding or any background bleed and the panel uniformity was excellent.

    Bottom line - amazing monitor.
