This item was sold damaged. Upon arrival, the packaging was bad. When we opened and plugged in the laptop, we noticed it didn't look like the one pictured here. It had these awkwardly placed speakers above the keyboard, the keys were dirty, and the overall shape is thicker than advertised.Next problem was this is advertised as 2.4 gigahertz. Later I noticed it said cached, which in consumer terms means nothing. This is a 1.63 gigahertz PC.Once you turn it on and register an email or create your live account, you will notice it needs about 7 updates and 6 of them major updates. The 1803 update won't take. Majority of the updates fail. The computer runs sluggish and in all cases is unusable. The error codes are instantaneous and when researched, the solutions are not working even with Microsoft stepping in and ASUS. The internet does not stay on. It jumps in and out and has issues connecting to wifi.I called Amazon and they initiated a full refund right away and setup a label for return to be brought and picked up by UPS. I should have read past the first 3 pages of reviews. It seems a ton of people have this problem and more.Do not buy this laptop or do business with this seller. He's at 31% for a reason. Please save yourself the headache. Fyi, this computer is super bloated with unnecessary stuff.

The key to being happy with this laptop is to understand what you are buying. ASUS makes some high-end gaming laptops like the ROG that sell for over $2000. That is like buying a Telsa in the car world. If that is what you are looking for then by all means spend the money and enjoy it. But if you just need basic functions like web browsing, email and writing documents and you don't want spend much money then this is a great deal. It's kind of like buying a Ford Fiesta for your commute car because you just need something to get you to work and back. In my case, I needed an inexpensive laptop for my son and this is perfect. I have spend the day testing it out and am very impressed. I'm honestly stunned that you get this much for around $250. Right now we are all listening to Christmas music on Pandora in the living room. Earlier I was showing him Skype video messaging on the web cam which worked great. Window 10 boots up very quickly and the screen backgrounds are beautiful The laptop looks sleek and professional. The trackpad actually works better then my more expensive Thinkpad laptop. With 500GB hard drive he is never going to run out of space. In our case the WiFi works great so maybe we are just lucky there. So I think people who purchase this laptop for the right reasons will be happy. Just remember this is not a Tesla but then again you are paying about a tenth of the cost and from that perspective this is a great purchase.

The bad stuff:

The keyboard is not backlighted, that would have been a great plus, also not even the num lock or caps lock have a little light to let you know they are on. That is annoying. The keyboard feels good, though.
Windows 10 holly crap! after I installed all my programs it got stuck on boot. A quick google search showed its a windows 10 thing, not an Asus thing. I had to do a system restore and reinstall everything again. It keeps installing useless updates and when you restart it takes over an hour to do so. So never shut it down completely or spare extra time if you need this PC for work. Even when you turn off updates somehow this keeps happening. It also comes with a lot of crappy Asus programs you have to get rid of. I would say take the time to get the software working right, otherwise its not very reliable.
Someone mentioned in a previous review the charger did not go in all the way, it did not at first, then it did. It seems its a little hard to get right when new.
The good stuff:

It seems to be aluminum on the outside, that's nice. It is very thin almost like a mac. I would not guess this was such a cheap pc from just looking at it.
I had my doubts with a soldered memory of 4 gigs and non-removable battery but it works great. Processor does not overheats in your lap.
I ran photoshop, with dual monitors, FSX with moderate to low settings just fine. It does the job. Have not work on video editing yet but I think it will do for most small projects. I am quite happy with the product for the price. I would have paid a little extra for touchscreen display and ligthed keyboard tough, that would have been perfect!

The computer itself seems to be great for what I need a computer for. But, since I got less three days use out of it due to a defective cable, and no store carries a replacement cable for this computer, I am waiting for asus to replace the cable. It took two weeks to get them to agree to even "repair" it. (How do you repair a cable?) Two weeks ago, shipped it back to them. They finally admitted last might they had lost it. No idea when they are going to get me a cable. Of course, this has nothing to do with Amazon. Amazon has been excellent in dealing with this...it is just impossible to purchase a replacement cable for this computer....even at the asus store!!!

I would not recommend this computer due to the cheap cable that comes with it. And the inability of getting it replaced other than through asus. The problem is that the power cord is so cheaply made and so lightweight that it over heats to the point that you can smell it melting.

Update on my original review...the 4 month old cable died and asus refuses to replace it even though it is under warranty. Three week later the computer itself died. Asus claimed to have replaced the mother board, discovered the hard drive was defective and ordered a new hard drive. A week later when the hard drive came in, they notified me it was in, but they could not replace it because the warranty had been voided when the hard drive was removed from the computer. They accused me of removing the hard drive. A week later, they "found" the hard drive, supposedly installed it and sent me the computer. Problem is, the day the computer arrived, I was told by phone when it would not come on, it had been sent without the hard drive or the power cable and I needed to return it. There was also a letter in the box with the computer telling me the hard drive had not been installed because I did not pay for it and the computer had arrived without a hard drive.
Sending it back to them is not an option. Now, a week later, they are still refusing to return the hard drive and the power cable. From what I am finding out, this seems to be status qua with their strip mall, store front repair center in Grapevien, Texas.

If you want an inexpensive computer that does what you want it to do, I suggest you buy a Dell. They stand behind their computers. i bought a Dell last week, from Amazon, and so far am pleased...except for it having windows 10! (But so did the asus.)

Kudos to Amazon for helping me with this issue.

Feels cheap, I had it on for half an hour and it went to a black screen and it won't turn back on. It is pulled into the charger. Not sure what is going on but I shouldn't be having problems after half an hour especially because this isn't a low cost laptop it cost me $400. Doesn't look anything like the pictures either. Looks so cheap I can't stress that enough
