UPDATE: my review below still stands below, but if you plan on buying a monitor arm for this monitor you will have to get one that is 100x100 VESA + offers “spacers” for installing the VESA plate. Standard VESA plates do not fit in the odd circular area on the back. I was lucky enough to get a VIVO arm that came with spacers, to raise the plate out of the circle area and allow me to screw it in properly. Otherwise the holes do not match up. Something to keep in mind!ORIGINAL REVIEW: I am coming from an iMac 27" 5K Retina - I say that because when I was shopping for a new monitor to go with my Mac Studio I had a HARD time finding people who were transitioning like I was. I knew the iMac had one of the best screens on the market (brightness, clarity, text, etc) and I wanted to buy a comparable external monitor, larger in size, without spending $5K on the Apple display. I've been using various iMacs for over a decade, so the transition was bound to be "bumpy"Originally I got an LG 4K 32" display. I had the larger size I wanted but the text clarity was horrible. People mentioned the text was nice and clear, but when I received it I was very disappointed. I was going to keep it...then the darn thing died 10 days later (display issues, burn in...not waking up with the computer and other weirdness) so I returned it. Great! I have a new computer and no monitor...so I checked out 5K monitors like this one and the LG 5Ks (though they were more $$). I went with this because it was cheaper, and my bad experience with the earlier LG made me want to try something different.I got this monitor last week and right away I saw a HUGE difference in text clarity from the earlier LG. YAY - I felt like I finally found the perfect monitor that was not AS beautiful as my iMac but it was darn close. It gets brighter than the LG 4K did, which made me happy and it was bigger. No issues so far, but I will update if anything weird happens because if I have to return another monitor then I am forking up the extra $$ and getting the new Apple Studio Display. I can't go back and forth with monitors anymore - way too stressful and this is my business, my livelihood and I need equipment to work!Few initial thoughts on this MSI monitor:1. It does take longer to wake up, so if you are coming from an all-in-one computer - make sure you know this is unavoidable. Maybe another monitor would be faster, of course the Apple monitor probably is but I doubt you can have an external monitor wake up as fast as an all-in-one computer.2. I have had a weird issue, which after extensive checking, appears to be related to Monterey + external displays. The display would wake up overnight when my computer was trying to "do something". Have no idea what, but the monitor would sense something from the computer, attempt to wake up and then go right back into sleep mode. My solution to this is when I am done working for the day, turn the monitor OFF. I figure heck I might save electricity + the life of the monitor. Until Apple fixes the issue I won't have the monitor trying to go off/on all night. I do not think this is a problem with the monitor, it does appear to be related to the operating system!3. Controlling brightness and color has to be done directly on the monitor. There is software from MSI, but only for Windows (BAD!!) so using the joystick on the back is the only way to control things. Once I have my sweet spot of brightness and colors, I doubt I will change it that often.4. Getting used to ultra-wide has been an adjustment. I used to work with my focus program (what I am working on) on the left and my email/slack/etc on the right). Weeeellll, now I have to move my focus program to the middle and other items shift to the left/right side. Just weird getting used to that, but the left/right is of course further away from my view than it was on a 27". And, since I am running at 5K everything is small. I can read everything, but to be comfortable my focus needs to be perfect center now. Just something I didn't realize would happen until you are sitting in front of an ultrawide. But I can fit SO much more on the screen than I could before and I love that!5. Monitor stand it comes with is WOBBLY. Very much so! It was my intention to get a monitor arm, so this won't be an issue for me much longer, but something to keep in mind. I mean very wobbly and distracting when typing or bumping into my desk if I shift around. The stand is nice, metal on the bottom and solid feeling so I am surprised that it moves so much. Those are my initial thoughts, and I hope I can help someone else who transitions from an all-in-one to separate computer/monitor like I did recently.
