Elicit (Eagle Elite Book 4) Kindle Edition

4.7 4.7 out of 5 stars 1,413 ratings

Blood always wins.

Cursed, numb, rejected, scorned, wicked, sinister, dark, twisted...my name is Tex Campisi and this is my legacy. I killed my father in cold blood and lost my soul right along with him.
I crave war more than peace, and I'm about to take my place in history as the youngest Capo dei Capi in the Cosa Nostra -- that is -- until someone stops me, saves me from myself.

The only person able to do that...is my best friend’s sister, Mo Abandonato, and she just ripped my heart out and asked me to hold it in my hands while she put bullets through it.

I’m cursed, so I did it.
I'm numb, so I held it.
I'm wicked, so I liked it.

I used the pain Mo caused as a catalyst to turn into my biggest nightmare--the five families greatest enemy. It's my turn to take a stand, knowing full well I'm going to lose my mind to the madness that is the American Mafia. I've always been told blood is thicker than life. I wish I would have listened. Because regardless of who you love? You will betray. You will kill.

The only way out is death...yours.

Review

"Rachel Van Dyken has created one of the most panty-moistening alpha heroes ever in Tex, the stone-cold hit-man with a deep sense of loyalty for his family and an unshakeable love for Mafia princess Mo. Their chemistry is raging hot, but their connection runs so much deeper than that. If you love a strong, commanding alpha that is willing to lay everything on the line for the woman he loves, you are going to fall in love with Tex." --NYT & USA Today Bestselling Author Melanie Shawn "Elicit packs one hell of a swing, lemme tell you. Just when you thought everything is over, Rachel van Dyken hits you with a curveball that you won't ever see coming. Damn."--Between The Pages Book Blog

From the Inside Flap

EXCERPT:
"Eight minutes where I'd rather time didn't exist." I whispered watching pain roll across his face in a wave. "Kiss me again."
With a soft exhale, he brushed his lips across mine, little feathery strokes that tempted me with promises of something more. He used his tongue to trace the outline of my lips before sliding inside, past my teeth, tasting every inch of me, giving me every inch he could of himself. Living in the moment, both of us knowing that it would soon be over.
"Seven." I whispered against his mouth.
"Go to school," he urged for a second time. "Make mistakes, Mo. Get in trouble, let Nixon find you sneaking wine into your backpack. Get sent to the Dean's office, make mistakes," he said again then licked his lips. "Let someone pick up the pieces of your broken heart, let someone fix what I destroyed."
"What if I want to drop out and hermit myself in my room?" I refused to look at him.
"That's not living, Mo." Tex cupped my face. "I have five minutes left with you, do you want me to use it to kiss you or lecture you on why I'm right?"
I grinned as a tear slid down my cheek. "Both."
His smile matched mine. "I forget how much you like being scolded."
"Only if the one scolding has a firm hand."
"Every last inch of me is firm and you know it." Tex tugged me into his lap. "School will distract you, it will give you a better future then guns and war, it will take your focus from tragedy to the future. Please, for me, Mo, please try to do normal."
"Normal." I shook my head. "Not sure I know what that word is."
"Normal," Tex repeated. "Making love to someone under a tree not because you have to say goodbye, but because it's the best way you can think to say hello."
My lower lip quivered.
"Normal." His voice was hoarse. "Marrying the love of your life not because her brother shoots you at point blank range--but because not marrying her would be a fate worse than death."
He was silent then added, "Three minutes."
I clenched his shirt with my hands and fought the urge to sob against his chest.
"Normal." Tex's voice was barely audible. "Going from country to country, traveling all over the world, not because you have a hit on you, but because you want to see the girl you love smile in every country God ever created."
I knew the time was ticking by, it seemed the less time we had the faster it went, I guess that's life.
I was looking at two more minutes, maybe less, with my lover, my friend, and all I could do was clench his shirt in my hands and twist, somehow willing him to stay on the ground rather than get up and walk towards certain death.
"Normal." Tex moved to his feet, helping me up. "Giving the woman you love two hours of your time, because you can't imagine spending your minutes, those precious seconds, any other way."
Tex kissed my mouth hard, nearly bruising my lips before stepping back and kissing my nose.
"Time's up," he said gruffly.
"We're no longer friends." I said it as a statement, not even a question.
"For two hours I was your lover, your friend, your everything." Tex looked away. "For the rest of eternity--I'm now your enemy."

It is rare that I give star ratings when I post my reviews, however I am giving ELICIT a scorching 5 star review. I didn't think it was possible for Rachel Van Dyken to leave me speechless, yet she managed to. While reading Elicit, I was captivated with each word she wrote. With every turn of the page, I feared what was to come for Tex and Mo.

At the end of Entice, Tex killed his father, given him the position of Capo dei Capi in the Cosa Nostra. He was given two choices. Choose the blood that you were born to or choose the blood that you were raised with.

Tex had decisions to make, but would he make the right ones. When he is being forced to choose between being a head of the Campisi family or choosing to protect the ones that he loves, what will he do? Will Tex choose Campisi? Will he protect Mo Abandanato, the one that has held his heart for years? Will he choose the Abandanato family, that one that he was raised by when his own family didn't want him? It has been said,

Blood Always Wins.

The only way out is death...yours.

Which blood will Tex choose?

Mo Abandanato is the one person that is Tex's ruin. Mo is Tex's weakest link. Things aren't always how they appear. Things aren't always black and white. Tex isn't the only one that has made choices that effect all of them. Mo has made decisions to protect the ones that she loves as well. Mo can only hope that when all is revealed, that they will understand the decisions she has made. Can Mo and Tex trust each other? When the truth is revealed, will it shatter their families? How will Tex react? Will he feel betrayed? How will Nixon handle the truths as they are revealed? Mo is a force to reckon with. She fights for those that she loves, and she will stop at nothing to protect them. Even it it means sacrificing herself.

Elicit is by far my favorite book that Rachel has written. There are so many twists and turns in this book, so many moments where you are like WHAT THE F**K!! DID THAT JUST HAPPEN? One word describes the emotion that I felt while reading this book, INTENSE. My heart raced while I read the struggles that Tex and MO both went through. To know that Tex was once the happy go lucky guy who always made a joke in any situation, to see him transform before my eyes into a ruthless leader, was pure craziness. We can't forget about the chemistry between Tex and Mo, which has always been evident throughout this series, however Rachel took it to a whole other level in Elicit.

If you have not read this series, I suggest you start it immediately. I absolutely LOVE this series. Rachel has created a group of characters that will weave themselves into your heart and you will feel all of the pain that they go through in order to protect each other. I fell in love with Chase from the very beginning and I never thought it was possible for Chase to be knocked off his thrown. Boy, was I wrong. Tex came out swinging in this book. We see the playful side of Tex that we have grown to love and then we see the intense side of Tex, which is new to us. There were times that I was laughing out loud and then times that I would cringe when the words were spoken, as my heart ached for what was to come.

Rachel, you are simply AMAZING and with every book you write I fall more in love with your writing and your stories. You knocked the ball out of the park with Elicit, kudos to you my friend.

This is actually a quote from Bang Bang, a standalone in the Eagle Elite series from Tex to Ax, but I felt it fit in this review as well.

“We’ve got you… me and Nixon… Chase, Mil, Phoenix, we’re family. Things aren’t like they used to be. We’re a team, all of the families are a team, and you’re a part of it whether you like it or not. So if you need anything we aren’t just your bosses, we’re your friends and I treat my friends with the utmost respect.”

Do not read this review if you haven't read the first three books in the Eagle Elite series as it may contain spoilers.

In book 3 we were left with Mo's huge secret. Of course there is all kinds of drama surrounding the secret, but nothing Tex is aware of at the moment. All he knows is that he told Mo he would protect her and that's exactly what he plans on doing.

Mo and Tex have been on and off for years. Knowing each other since they were just kids. To Mo, Tex was the only guy for her. For some reason they can't seem to get it together to make anything solid with what they have. Now that Mo has thrown a bit of a wrench in the situation, they are further apart than ever. Elicit is the story of Tex and Mo, probably the most tragic of the three stories so far.

Nixon goes nuts learning Mo's secret, shoots Tex and a new plan is now in the works. Just another day in the life of this young mafia family. Mo's crazy personality is actually to save Tex from himself. With the Cappo gone and Tex to step up, things need to be done before that can happen, which is the need for the aforementioned "plan". Ugh these plans the guys come up with always have to be executed with exact precision, it keeps you turning the pages as fast as possible. The new plan involves Mo, unbeknownst to Nixon, and a ghost from the past. I liked seeing the ghost surface as I only knew about him from Bang Bang and wondered what his whole story was. While there is a plan in place, just that quick, another plan is hatched on the sly and you just wonder who will be left standing in the end.

Tex is a good guy, but can't show it this time around and I'm not sure I liked him so dark. Funny Tex is much better. Elicit shows that the mafia isn't a place for a weak minded person, women included. Everybody steps up to try and keep the five families intact and alive.

Man, I read the first 4 books in the Eagle Elite series in just as many days. Sure the story is a bit far fetched with the ages of these mafia family members and what they do, but Rachel Van Dyken's story is so detailed and action-packed you let that slip your mind and just keep reading. Again, I recommend reading the Eagle Elite series and then the stand alone Bang Bang. Although the characters are quickly explained in Bang Bang, getting to know them better in the series is much more fun. Phoenix's turn to find love next!!

OMG this needs to get turned into movies or a series!!!!!!!!

That.....was.......INTENSE!!

Brilliant writing.

Amazing journey with Tex and Mo, and the rest of the little mafia family.

Heart pounding. You will devour the pages because you are rooting for them all and can't wait to know how it turns out. I swear, I sat down to pee at one point and didn't realize that 30 minutes later I was still sitting on the toilet hahaha it was brilliant.

You don't have to read the other books but they support each other, you get more stories about the other characters. I think my favourite, no, I know my favourite is Phoenix. Can't wait for his journey, it's going to be gut wrenching!! (It's due in 2015)

Loved this. Tears and Smiles!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't get enough of this series!!!!

This is fast becoming one of my all time favourite series. The complexity and passion in the storyline makes your heart beat and your nerves tingle. What started off as a NA treat has become a Mob masterclass.

Tex Campisi is probably my favourite character. He is extremely funny, sweet, beautiful and above all an accomplished killer. The love of his life is none other than Mo, Nixon's sister and despite the threats Nixon rains down on him in a daily basis about staying far away from his sister, Tex is powerless to her charms. Mo is perfect for Tex, she too is a highly skilled fighter and with her knives strapped to her body, any man should fear her, including Tex. The real magic though appears when these two are together. Unable to resist their love for each other but knowing they can never be together, Tex and Mo's emotions explode.

This story continues with the families battling for control and with the Sicilian threat ever looming and Tex being expected to take the reins of the Campisi empire, the group have to work together to find the best way to alleviate the pressure they are facing and which will arrive at their door all too soon.

I love the passion and determination Mo shows throughout this story. She loves her man and nothing and no-one will stop them being together. The extremes she goes to to protect and keep Tex from harm is breathtaking as is her resolve to once and for all make this man hers for eternity.

I won't go into details about the storyline as it will spoil it too much if you haven't already read it but you will be blown away at the return of a ghost and also getting to know a couple of new characters a little better. I love the way everything is solved with a punch, gun shot or a stabbing in their lives. Far fetched, yes, but totally enjoyable and crackpot crazy!!!

I can't wait to read the next instalment but in the meantime there are some novellas to whet your appetite for more and to fill in some of the gaps. I don't know how Rachel does it though. With so many complex twists and turns she brings her readers to a crescendo only to leave them wanting more once again. For me that's the sign of a truly talented writer.

This is a very difficult book to review as there is the potential for so many spoilers. If you're considering reading this then in all likely hood you've read the predecessors and know that Elicit primarily centres around Tex and Mo's story. If you've not read any previous books, I would highly suggest you start at Elite and work your way up to Elicit - trust me you won't be disappointed. This is hands down one of my favourite series out there at the moment and for me offers something more than the norm.

I purposefully did not start this book until I knew I had a day without interruptions because I knew once I picked it up there would be no putting it down - I was not wrong. Rachel has yet again delivered with Elicit. There were more twists and turns in the plot than ever and I was on the edge of my seat throughout.

More than that though, Tex and Mo's love story really sucked me in and gave me a good working over. Trust me when I say you will need tissues with this book.

Tex's character really came a long way in Elicit. He is normally the character that brings the humour to this series and while that was still there, we got to see a whole new emotional side to him and I was smitten by the end.

One of the things I like about Rachel's books is that she writes strong female characters and Mo was no exception to the rule. She was sassy and really stepped up to the plate here for everything she loves - Mo is probably my favourite female character in this series.

Elicit was certainly more edgier than the earlier books which I feel is perfectly in sync with the story and character's progression. This book had everything for me, action, heartbreak, romance and genuine OMG moments

A big massive 5 stars from me for Elicit.
