Customers are mixed about the handle of the kitchen product. Some mention that it does not get hot when this is used on a glass, while others say that it gets hot. The handle stays cool, because it's so far off to the side, unlike their old product. The glass is heat resistant, laboratory quality, and heats up fast because it’s thin glass. However, some customers have said that the handle gets hot, the plastic lid does get very hot during boiling, and almost seems to soften up a bit.

UPDATE: The Bottom Fell Out!

UPDATE: The Bottom Fell Out!
UPDATE: ***PLEASE SEE PICTURE*** This teapot lasted 4 years. I cleaned it out and was boiling tea one day, when this happened. Note that I inspected it before filling it and there was NO crack or indication that this would happen! When it whistled and I lifted the teapot, the bottom fell out, and boiling tea spilled EVERYWHERE. It did not even leak prior to lifting, I was shocked! To my surprise, I was not burnt (the stovetop caught the bulk of it). Lift this ABOVE your stove, NEVER lift and bring this toward yourself!Since this lasted me nearly 4 years, I ordered a new one, because I brew often and for $9 this is a great teapot! No worries about rust. However, know it CAN be dangerous—I would advise replacing it often, just to be safe. And seriously, it's under $10, you can replace it as often as you'd like.If this happens again, I will update and definitely lower my rating._______We had a "stainless steel, rustproof" kettle before we bought this. It was very hard to clean because it was so dark inside I could not see if it was dirty. I was horrified when I used a flashlight and saw that the entire inside was covered in rust! I figured if it were rusty inside, I'd see a red tint in the water it boiled but never did! We were drinking water out of that! I looked for a new one and the Amazon reviews helped. However, I noticed many stainless steel kettles promised to be rustproof and some reviewers still complained. I had to boil water for my baby's formula and did not want to risk boiling it in a rusty kettle! So I purchased this kettle. For $12 I did not expect it to last very long, especially with the mixed reviews. Boy was I wrong! Despite how careful I was, I bumped it into things several times; metal pans, the side of the sink, utensils. Some bumps were actually quite hard. It did not break! I inspected it right after, of course, and I still try to be as gentle as possible, but I am surprised how well it is holding up! Cleaning it is a breeze - I fill it with hot water and a bit of white vinegar, and let it sit for 20 minutes. Then I rinse it out and it sparkles! No metal kettle is this easy! Water does take much longer to heat (20-30 minutes) because it has to be done over medium heat, but that's a small price to pay for drinking safe, rust-free water. Since I have a flat top stove, I don't need to use the metal base it came with (which I'm sure makes things easier, as that's one less thing to forget). It does whistle, and if the water is left to boil long enough, it can get rather loud. I have not had an issue with the handle or top getting hot or melting at all, after 7 months of use (I boil water in it every other day) it still looks brand new! If this ever breaks I will be buying another. It is worth the money I paid and much more, considering some more expensive steel kettles cost 3x as much and are rusty inside within a month. I definitely recommend this, especially if you have a baby that you need to boil water for!
