Publisher's summary

Settle in for the hot McKay romance that started it all....

The moment Carson McKay saw the sexy blonde at the dance hall, he wanted to throw her over his saddle and gallop hell-bent toward the closest church. Given his reputation as a lover and a fighter - not necessarily in that order - it wasn't surprising that she gave him the cold shoulder. But he hadn't expected the mean right hook when he tried to steal a kiss.

Carolyn West might look sweet and innocent, but she's no fool. The good-looking cowboy with the heart-stopping smile didn't really want to marry her; he just wanted to take her for a test ride. But when he kisses her a second time, she doesn't fight her burning attraction to him...until she learns he's one of the McKay cowboys she's been warned about.

Carson doesn't care about the long-standing feud between their families; he knows that Carolyn was meant to be his. And the more intimate they become, the more Carolyn sees the real man behind the wild cowboy reputation - a man who wants the same forever kind of love she does...and who will lead her into a love story that spans 50 years.

Warning: Crazy, hot, sexy and sweet good girl meets bad boy cowboy and they prove lust can last a lifetime.

Fantastic.

I have read the entire series. I skipped around at first, but I just had to go and start from the beginning. Love the family, love the passion and the secrets. Great story!

Amazing story!

I've listened to this series in order written from the beginning. It's not necessary but added to the laughter & tears & overall enjoyment of it. I love how this story is told, it touched my heart. Looking forward to the next. I hope to hear more about the West family in books to come.

THIS ONE WAS EPIC!!

Wow, wow, wow!!!! It's amazing that after 15 stories of the McKay's love affairs, the most heart warming, tear jerking, super hot, I couldn't stop listening even if I wanted to, story of them all, was this one about Mom and Pop McKay! I adored every second of this story, and consider this one to be the best in the series. I've probably said that before about another one of books in the series, but, they are just that good! I'm shamelessly addicted!

The Misogynistic McKay Family Dynasty

In spite of the fact that Lorelei James is an incredibly gifted writer, I didn't find this sad, drawn-out saga romantic, erotic or engrossing. Despite Carson's proclamations of undying love for Carolyn, his main concern seemed to be how he would survive without her services.

I was curious about Carson, head of the McKay clan, considering the majority of males in his family (from previous books) are chauvinistic, violent and misogynistic. When Carson (24) met Carolyn (18), he was a selfish, promiscuous rancher who spent most of his spare time in strip clubs and honkytonks. Screwing strange women and getting in bar fights - what a prize!

Carolyn, raised as a strict Catholic and treated like an unpaid maid by her family, was naive and totally clueless about men. Carson quickly took her virginity, without using protection or caring about her feelings. Although Carolyn was smart and sometimes spunky, she had no dreams or ambitions, believing her purpose in life was to serve as a brood mare and domestic servant.

I lost interest after almost 6 hours of "what Carson wants and needs". When I skipped forward a bit, I wasn't surprised to learn that Carson enjoyed hurting and restraining poor Carolyn - as if being married to a selfish prick wasn't punishment enough. Now it makes sense how their sons grew up believing that domestic abuse was acceptable, even romantic behavior.

I wish Lorelei James would write a series about intelligent, independent and sassy gals who have fulfilling lives before falling in love with men who like and respect women. Strong and secure men are so much sexier than aggressive, condescending alpha jerks.

Carson and Caroline, Patriarch and Matriarch of the McKay clan

When exercising Carson's horse Caroline is bucked off and hits her head. She is badly injured and needs to be put into a medically induced coma for a week so she can heal. Carson is allowed to enter her room in a protective suit that keeps germs from getting to her. He is allowed five minutes each hour to sit with her. He tells the family they will not be able to visit at her bedside as that would increase the chances that infection could be introduced. All their children get angry with him for the dictate and refuse to visit with him while he stays there 24-7. Carson has memory flashbacks while he is waiting. He relates his remembrances to Caroline during his five minute visits. We get a better understanding about their courtship and married life that we didn't know before. We also learn more about their kids and other family members. It makes me like Carson a lot more than the dictator he is to the McKay younger generation. His and Caroline's marriage was one of love at first sight, deep lasting love and mutual respect. He will be devastated if he loses her. I really enjoyed the audible version. The narrator is superior to many.

Don't Miss This One!

This was the best book I've read or listen to in a long time. I love the storyline. The way Ms. James write this was exceptional. I cried, I laughed, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Don't pass this one up, it's not a cowboy story but a life story that takes place on a ranch. Spectacular!!!!!
