I had an original Dunlop Cry-Baby for decades, but when the potentiometer inside it went bad (heaven knows how) I gave it to a tinkerer friend and looked for a replacement. This Vox wah pedal fills the bill perfectly, at a competitive price to the Dunlop.
The body is bombproof die-cast metal, the top is grippy rubber, and the whole things sounds great. It’s not as sensitive to pedal position as my old Dunlop was, which is awesome.
This is pro-level gear, and I love it.

When I first plugged into the Vox V847, I noticed the sweep was sharp and quick. There is a spot, just past the middle towards the toe, where there is a very sudden sharp sweep, almost like flicking a switch, when the sound changes quickly. While not bad, it just doesn't suit my taste for most music, except for funk. I love using this wah pedal for Voodoo Chile type sweep rhythms.
Also, something else I noticed is that in the heel-down position, things are very muddy, indistinguishable, and almost empty of any tone. When used right, this can sound pretty cool, but I just can't stay in that position if I want anything I'm playing to be heard by others.
This pedal is great for Rock solos. With some distortion or overdrive, the sharp sweep sound great to emphasize bends and notes, especially when rocking back and forth to a set of quick notes or a finger tapping section, emphasizing certain notes, it sounds great. With distortion though, it is harder to get a smooth sounding transition from heel to toe. In fact, it is even harder.
I recently got a Dunlop 535Q Crybaby, and will be modding my old Vox Wah, to either sell, or add to my studio equipment depending on the new sounds I can get out of it. If you are interested in electronics, there are numerous mods out there for this pedal. You can make it true bypass, change the sweep range, high end, low end, and low end clarity.
Overall, I found this pedal very handy and fun to have when playing, as it really adds another element to your sound, and is always a crowd pleaser. While I listed many faults to this thing, it really works great for the price. I would choose this pedal over the similarly priced crybabies any day. As for recording and gigging, the lack of true bypass isn't that noticable, and the odd sweep range is fine if your know how to use it. It really kicks out some cool sounds and it ain't that pricey either. Give it a go if you're looking for an affordable Wah Pedal!

The VOX V845 Classic Wah pedal feels like a heavy quality build and despite some other posts here on Amazon, there is nothing wrong with the one "I got". Either using this, to apply on lead guitar bends or to simply make chord progressions swell and fade you can't beat this pedal, especially the price that I got it at around the $74.00 USD price point. There is many other wah pedals out there that are the same quality as this pedal but are far more expensive. This one is worth taking a chance on, my 2 cents - Tom
The chrome on the sides looks very cool. Makes it look really smart.
The battery installs easily by simply unscrewing the rubber feet at the bottom.
The sound of this wah is pretty much exactly like Hendrix Clapton from the sixties. Its a wah and wah and does just that.
I tried it on both clean and distorted sounds and it sounds great on both.
I'm not sure if its a true bypass but I have a feeling it is. Because when its switched on without the battery there's no sound coming from it. Correct me if I"m wrong.
It's different sounding from the Crybaby wah. You should listen to both to know which is right for you. I wanted the "Tales of Brave Ulysses" sound so I went with this.
