From the manufacturer
Important: The protective components inside surge protectors absorb over-voltage spikes to protect your connected devices which means they will eventually wear out. Replace them at least every 3 years or immediately after any over-voltage spike event such as a thunderstorm or power outage because surge protectors degrade faster if they are exposed to high intensity events. Periodically check the surge protector enclosure and cable for signs of wear or heat distress. Replace an expired surge protector with a new one at the end of its useful life.

Product Description
Product Description
An ideal power solution for business trips and vacations, the Belkin SurgePlus USB Swivel Charger gives you a convenient, portable way to charge and protect your essential devices. This surge protector is equipped with three protected AC outlets, two protected, powered USB outlets, and a 360 degree rotating plug design to fit easily into small spaces. With its compact, durable design and premium absorptive materials, it protects your devices and irreplaceable data from voltage spikes and surges wherever you go.
SURGE PROTECTION SAFETY
If a surge protector ever becomes hot to the touch, shut off the unit immediately.
Never daisy chain power strips to other power strips or extension cords
Never allow a power strip to be exposed to a moist environment
Avoid running too many high energy consuming appliances through a single surge protector at once
High energy consuming electronics/appliances include window AC units, space heaters, refrigerators, washers/dryers etc.
Only one power strip should be plugged into a single two outlet electrical socket
Never cover a surge protector with carpet, furniture, or anything that would limit or prevent air circulation
IMPORTANT: The protective components inside surge protectors that absorb over voltage spikes will eventually wear out. Most estimates put the average lifespan of a surge protector from 3 to 5 years.
From the Manufacturer
Whether you're crossing continents or just heading across town, the Belkin BZ103050-TVL Mini Surge Protector/Dual USB Charger is the type of travel companion that makes your life easier. Featuring three protected AC outlets, two protected, powered USB outlets, and a unique rotating plug design that lets you work in tight spaces, this compact surge protector lets you plug in and charge all your essential devices wherever you are.
Convenient, Dependable Design for Worry-Free TravelHotel rooms, airport terminals, and coffee shops never seem to have enough power outlets to handle all your devices at once. With the Belkin Mini Surge Protector you no longer have to choose what to charge first.
This surge protector acts as a power strip, letting you plug three AC devices into a single wall outlet. It is rated to handle 918 Joules and provides protection against power surges and spikes, since the smart traveler is looking for protection of essential gear and irreplaceable data, not just extra outlets.
Two Powered USB Outlets Let You Charge More Devices Easily
In addition to its three AC outlets, this surge protector features two protected, powered USB outlets, so you can easily charge your iPod along with other USB devices. These USB outlets do not transmit data and the surge protector cannot be used as a hub, but they do make it exceptionally easy to keep devices that are charged via USB interfaces up and running without blocking your computer's USB ports or the AC outlets that you need for bigger devices.
Plus you may be able to leave long, tangle-friendly cords and clunky item-specific chargers at home, since this mini surge protector comes with a mini-USB cable. This is especially convenient now that many phones, including Blackberries and Motorola RAZR phones, feature USB power connections.
Unique, Efficient Design with Rotating Plug for Added Versatility
Its compact, lightweight, and efficient design means that you can easily slip this mini surge protector into your laptop bag or carry-on, and because Belkin knows that working on the road often means trying to plug in despite awkward outlet or furniture positioning, a 360-degree rotating plug with four locking positions makes it easy to use this device in tight spaces.

At this moment, the three power ports the are filled with the following devices:
- ASUS Notebook PC with 15.6" display, running Windows 7
- MacBook Pro with 13.3" display, running OS X 10.6.8)
- Charger for Plantronics Voyager 520 Bluetooth Headset
The two USB outlets are populated with cords to my Kindle 2 (for charging) and to my BlackBerry 9330's charger. Further, each of the two notebook computers have external USB-powered hard drives plugged in for backup purposes... in other words, everything is loaded. As usual, there's no heat being generated, and my gear is protected as well as one could expect, up to 36,000A maximum spike current.
In truth, this mini surge protector is in service on a 24/7 basis unless I'm traveling to another location
Pros
* 360° rotating power plug; 3-prong plug has 4 locking position
* Green indicator light indicating grounded power
* 125V/15A; 1,875W continuous duty electrical rating
* 2 USB outlets for charging devices at 5V/500mA on each port
* Plastic prong cover; protects prongs while traveling
* Compact and efficient design; reliable
Cons
* May be a bit bulky for some while traveling
* Not designed for 220/240V international travel
In it favor, this Belkin Mini Surge Protector/Dual USB Charger is backed by a lifetime warranty and a $75,000 connected equipment warranty. Hopefully I'll never need to use either, but it's good to know that my gear is well-protected this way.
This unit may be too big or bulky for traveling for some, though I found that I could tuck it away in my computer cases without much effort. If it seems too big for your use, check out the Belkin F9H220-TVL Travel Surge Protector with Hidden Swivel Plug . I've used one, and its swivel plug folds away neatly for storage in your bag, though this model has only two power outlets and no USB charging ports. Can also highly recommend the Targus Mini Mobile Surge Protectors , which I've reviewed before on that page. They're still in service.
Should you need a solution for international travel, the Simran SM-60 110V-250V Universal 3 Outlet Power Strip/Surge Protector for Worldwide Travel might be a good choice, but be sure that you have international plug compatibility. The All-in-One Travel Power Plug Adapter for US, UK, EU, AU is a handy and compact choice for over 150 countries, but check the power and plug requirements of the country you're visiting.
This Belkin Mini Surge Protector has worked out well enough for me, enough so that I have two of them now. They may be bigger than some want for travel, but they have fit my needs perfectly, and I have no reservations about recommending them as a 5-star choice if your needs are similar to mine.

Regarding the larger need for surge protectors, I have experienced firsthand their immense value. About three years ago, my apartment building experienced a large power surge. There were three surge protectors shielding my computer and the majority of my consumer electronics. All three worked well, including one that left a burn mark on the painted wooden windowsill where it was located. Unfortunately, one flat panel television was plugged directly into the socket. When the surge occurred, the back of the television literally exploded. Using basic math, it is easy to see that such an event only need to occur once in a lifetime to justify consistent use of surge protectors.
Pros
3 AC Outlets
No cords to get tangled
Clearance for recessed AC outlets
Two USB jacks
Cons
Too bulky for air travel
—Reputable long-standing brand. I recently lost an expensive piece of medical equipment to a surge that a cheap “surge protector” produced all on its own. Those UL/ETL listing should be a bare minimum requirement for products to be sold here!
—Can be used in outlets that lack middle screw for stabilization
—Can use two of them stacked and pointing in different directions (see photo) even if the plugs you’re inserting are extra large.
—918 Joules per 3 AC outlets (really 2, in terms of usability—see cons) is not at all a shabby amount of protection. Generally speaking, the only times when you’d need more protection than that per outlet are for huge appliances that must have their own dedicated outlet anyhow.
—When used in a stacked fashion, you’re putting a lot less electrical load strain on each of your wall sockets than you would if using a single wall-mounted surge protector with six AC plugs. This is because the single unit surge protectors that cover both sockets in a wall outlet only plug into one of those sockets, putting all the electrical load on one socket. This strain could endanger more sensitive or energy-sapping equipment, which you can now divide up between both sockets.
—The rotating plug feature is assisted both by a button that must be pushed while rotating (locking it into one position so that it doesn’t flop around) and by a plastic removable turn key covering the plug that makes the plug easier to grasp. Quality details.
—USB charging stations on the sides are useful for so many things today. I usually have one or both occupied overnight when the AC sockets are not in active use.
—Has light that indicates if protection is working. I’ve had one of these for years that continues to work.
—Would be a good travel surge protector in the states.
Cons:
—Each of these can only take two AC plugs unless they’re *super* compact.
—Will jiggle some when removing plugs and may need to be pushed flush again.
—A really heavy plug should only go into the socket that is directly aligned with the wall outlet, not in the dangling extremity. Yet, as you can see in the photos, the extremities can take rather substantial plugs, just not exceptionally heavy ones.
—These are not pretty compared to surge protectors whose symmetry mimics the outlet.
—The cons are so small and the pros so big compared to other surge protection solutions that I’ve tried that I won’t be knocking off stars for the cons. I just purchased another and may return for more.

Top reviews from other countries
The build quality on this is great. Some people may call it bulky, but the bulkiness is the trade-off for the surge protection which is a great feature. The plug is very solid, and I don't foresee it breaking off from continued use. The outlet swivels 360 degrees to accommodate the use of the other outlet.
The USB port charges at 500mA per port which will charge most USB devices (my Galaxy Tab won't charge through the USB). It would be nice if both ports charged at 1000mA though.
Overall, the device is great. It is built solidly. The bulkiness can be easily over looked for the added feature of the surge protection. For the price point, this is a 5 star. This product could be in the $40-50 range and still be a great value.

- 3 AC power outlets
- 2 USB outlets ONLY for charging (not data transfer) at 5V / 500mA at each port
- Surge protection on all 5 outlets
- 918 Joules Energy Dissipation
- 125V / 15A / 1,875W Continuous Duty Electrical Rating
- 36,000A Maximum Spike Current
- Lifetime Warranty on product
- USD75,0000.00 connected equipment warranty
- 360 degree rotating plug lockable into 4 possible positions
Simple, elegant design in a smooth plastic casing of white and light grey colour. Once plugged, the green LED light will indicate if the power source is grounded.
The box comes with one USB to mini-USB cable to get you started in charging your USB devices as well.
DO NOT throw the prong cover that initially comes attached to the surge protector prong. As the manual states (for those who still care to read the User Manual these days), you can use this plastic prong cover to help further balance the device against any surface. You do this by inserting the plastic prong cover on the bottom of the surge device via a small notch. Also, the plastic cover is handy to use when traveling. Before dumping the surge protector along with your other devices, cover the prongs to prevent it from scratching other objects.
The prongs can be rotated 360 degrees loosely. However, there are 4 positions that enable you to lock it so it doesn't flail along clumsily in any direction. You do this by pressing into the rear a "release button". It's not a raised button, but a flat plastic portion that you have to press hard in order to release the lock. It's quite difficult (at least with the model I received) at first and feels like I'm going to break the plastic button. But I guess if this is normal then it can be construed as a safety measure so it doesn't easily rotate with a simple touch.
IMPROVEMENTS:
The term "mini" is subjective. It isn't really that compact as I would assume from seeing the photo. It is small, yes. However, as a surge protector that can take 3 AC and 2 USB outlets, I will give Belkin the benefit of naming it a mini device.
I would STRONGLY prefer the re-design of the spacing on the AC outlets by allowing larger plugs connected side-by-side. As it is right now, only normal AC plugs and not block-style plugs are allowed without loosing all three outlets. So my proposal is to delete the middle AC outlet and move it to the end-cap of the device (opposite to the 2 USB outlets). As of now, there is nothing there so rather than cramp the 3 AC plugs, then move the third at the end and thus allowing for block-style plugs to be used and still retaining the 3 AC functionality.
OVERALL:
I would not hesitate to recommend the purchase of this surge protection for compact spaces as well as travel purposes especially with the lifetime warranty and amount of protection is offers.
Other brick-style retail stores are ridiculously selling this at double the price Amazon is currently selling it at. Only a store with the initials of HD is selling it at below what Amazon is offering it. If you live beside that store, go ahead and drop by for it. Otherwise if it's not urgent to get the device and with the current free shipping of Amazon, just purchase it alongside other items and save on fuel.
