Functionality: I wanted something that looked like a watch, was light, and could track my activity, sleep, and have a silent alarm. Pebble accurately tracks both and the alarm works great, plus it has added benefits of being able to see texts and emails from the watch and incoming calls. You can respond with voice or canned messages right from the watch as well and send a text easily from the watch. You can also easily pick from your phone app (I have Android) which apps you would like to notify you, i.e. if you wanted your work email to send notifications to your watch, but not your personal email, you can very easily turn off the personal email notifications. You can also set the alarm right from your watch, you don't need your phone to set it which I had to do on the FitBit. The interface is super easy to use and doesn't take long to get used to. The ones I use most often are the Health monitor where I can easily see from the watch my steps & sleep, the timer, and torch/flash light. The sleep also tracks "deep sleep" and keeps track of your average sleep and average deep sleep. Both the activity and sleep will send a notification to your watch after exercise or when you wake up with things like, "your rockin' the shut eye! You slept for X hours and X mins. Make it nightly ritual. You deserve it." or "Enjoying the great outdoors? You walked for X mins and burned X calories. Way to keep moving." The torch/flash light is not bright like a phone flashlight at all, but is useful in the middle of the night if you just need a little extra light. You can also set reminders to yourself using your voice, i.e. Remind me to go to my appt at 11 am (Slate is an app you can add, but Pebble comes with this capability). There are a ton of other apps you can add like Uber, drink/water counters, games, other sleep and activity apps. The apps add easily and instantly. You can easily reorder the apps that show on your pebble as well - easiest way on your phone app just touch and hold the app and drag it up or down. And you can set two apps to be available by pressing and holding the up and down buttons on your watch for immediate access.
Look & feel: The stone band was not very comfortable to me. I immediately ordered the silver metallic band and watched the video on the Pebble website for how to change it. I love that band, but have not changed it out since as it wasn't super easy (for me at least) to change the band the first time and get it to the right length. There are a lot of watch faces, but I don't really love any of them and you don't see the watch face when its just on your wrist very well at all unless the back light is on. Otherwise it's extremely light and comfortable, looks like a real watch, and durable. I work out with it on, play tennis, have done heavy yard work and have had zero problems and I do not have a protector on it.
Battery life -- States it will last two days which it may if you don't have many notifications otherwise closer to a day, but just make a habit of charging it while you are taking your shower and you'll be all set. It does send notifications to you that reminds you that it will only last until tonight, for example, which annoyed me a lot in the beginning but now I'm used to that.
Update-Feb/2017: Did you know that the company merged with Fibbit, but Fibbit does NOT provide support for Pebble watch? So hold on... your expensive Pebble is now useless and you were better buying anything no-name from China or the dollar store!! We "valuable" owners got an email on Dec/2016 saying pretty much... thank you for your money, but we decided to screw you, BIG TIME!!. We sold to another company and from now on there are no more updates, faces... zero, nothing... AND the new company, neither Pebble respect the guaranties, so if something happens to your watch, good luck, throw it on the garbage! Two days before I got that email, I contacted customer service, because my watch couldn't connect and I couldn't get the watch to recognize any updates or point out what happen. The screen was on and I could see the faces, but nothing else, no connection, no emails, no nothing... I never heard from customer service answering my email, but 2-3 days after, I got and we all got the mass email I mention before notifying us about the merge.
**** Watch out for those guys and whatever company they decide now to create or a crowdfunding initiative.... DO NOT TRUST THEM!! never give your money or believe whatever they say. They could have negotiate the service, updates and guaranties during the merge... but they did not care!!
****Just think for a moment, if a digital watch do not have tech support, you end up with a blank screen on your wrist... not even able to give you the time!!
I lost the money I paid for the watch and the accessories I got... screen protector and different color wrist wrap. I am amazed and surprise that these are still for sell, hopefully no one is falling for that... a google search will show everything I am saying.
Original review- Ag/2016: I like my Pebble overall, but it didn't get five starts because:
1. Low battery life. I need to charge it every night or at the max. every day and a half. So if you plan to use the app to track your sleeping patterns or depend on it to wake up, I wouldn't recommend it.
2. For the price, I would expect a better leather wrap. It is leather, but the worst I have owned. It doesn't look good after 10 days of wearing it and I was very careful of water spots, etc. I would have love if he watch came with a better quality leather wrap, for the price this upgrade should be totally doable. Guys at Pebble, please stop making these cheap leather wraps, you are offering a high quality product in a cheapo leather wrap!!
3. Apps are good, but a lot of room for improvement for the basic ones, just to mention one example, the weather functionality is pretty good, but it should have the option of hourly forecast, instead of daily.
Overall, I'm keeping my Pebble watch and I think is the best looking of the smart watches choices out there. I love the design, the interface and the open source for the faces... super fun! I recommend it for sure, just know what to expect. For example, as soon as you buy your Pebble Time, buy a couple of silicone straps and save the leather for a short, indoors special occasion... or wait until someone offers better leather wraps with automatic release that fit the Pebbles... or Pebble creators decided to listen to the numerous complaints about the horrible quality of the leather straps!!
