Some mention that it's worth every penny, it' s possible to reduce costs by 50% and obtain better service, and that it is a good mix of performance and price. Speed is good, advanced setup can be confusing
I needed to set up my DynDns service and had to hunt around for a link. A link for DDNS setup is on the AiCloud page. I also had to set up port forwarding on two devices, that took some extra time. If the documentation on advanced function setup would have been a little better, this would be a 5 star device. *Edit* I have to now give 5 stars. After using it for a while, this is a great router. The wireless transmit power is adjustable by some mysterious formula. Mine was set up as 85mw. The max setting is 200mw with the disclaimer "real power is adjusted dynamically to meet regional requirements". I don't know what that means, other than maybe I am not using the maximum power available. I have an Android phone app that measures relative 2.4G WiFi signal strength. The RT-N66U puts out a signal that is slightly better than my last (dead) N900 router at the 85mw setting. As a test I set the router output power for 200mw, 85mw, and 40mw and measured the results at the far end of my house. The results -60db, -68db and -74db, so the power adjustment does indeed work. At three feet from the router I measured -45db. I set mine to be 50mw and all devices in my house are happy with that.If something changes, I will let you know. This is my third N900 router in two years. So far, overall, the newer routers have not impressed me with their reliability. I chose ASUS this time, simply because my other two different N900 brands, died within a 3-6 months. We will see...2 Nov 12: I had a little problem today, I was playing with the WPS function, maybe I did something wrong. After using the WPS function several times, then rebooting, my SSID was reset to something I never authorized. Easy to manually reset the SSID. This is still a well performing router (with some minor quirks). If a friend asked me to recommend a good N900 router, this would have to be the one. Once you get it set up, it just works.10 Nov 12: I had to bump my rating up to 5 stars. Even with the minor firmware glitches, this is one fine router. I have a dual band N900 media bridge at the far end of my house that would only ever connect on the 2.4 GHz band (with my past two, dual band N900 routers). With the help of the traffic monitor and the adjustable power of this device, I now have a solid 5 GHz band connection, and am happily streaming video to my TV all day long. That leaves the 2.4 GHz band available for my older /b/g/n devices that are limited to 2.4 GHz. This device does indeed support simultaneous 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz traffic.Enjoy :)
