Monitors should be plug and play. You plug em' in, you play em'. Or, well, view them, in this case. I have no problem with the display(yet, I hope I won't) and the design is nice, modern, simple, sleek, this is all fine.
Here's my issue: I turn of my computer, plug it all in, and cross my fingers. It works. But with a drawback: what the heck is up with all these reg.exe's running in my task manager? Why is everything so sluggish? Why is nothing responding? I have to hard reset my baby. I try it again, computer works as it should be for about 10 minutes, then... it starts. Reg.exe appears in pairs, hundreds of them eventually. Nothing responds. Slow, sluggish computer, and it's using 6/12 gigs of my ram, and barely any cpu(0%-2%) My computer never, ever did this before that, it's fairly new. And I'm no naïve computer illiterate, I am aware of suspicious files/sites, use anti virus, all that good stuff. I have solved all the problems I've had, big or small, on my own(with a lot of help from the internet). I know how to clean desktops, install graphics cards, etc...
Now, as I am typing this, I have spent nearly 12 hours trying everything I can possibly think of. Obvious step: use my old monitor. It still does this new, nightmarish behavior. Next step: start in safe made, do a system restore. Changes nothing. Next step: try it again. Changes nothing. Next step: disable programs that are running on start up. Disabled everything but anti virus. Changes nothing. Install new AMD firepro drivers. Does nothing. Next step: start in safe made, run Trend Micro sysclean. This is where I'm at.
Next things I'm going to try are uninstalling my graphics card all together, and plug the new one in and see if that helps. Now, I'm using HP sanctioned products. HP Z840 desktop. AMD firepro(that comes with HP branded driver disc). HP monitor. Hp mouse and keyboard. The only things that AREN'T HP are my displayport to VGA adapter, tablet, external hard drives.
I have a feeling I have a long night, morning, afternoon, and another night ahead of me trying to fix this...
My point is, this shouldn't be a problem. I don't know if it's an issue on my end or what, but like I said, everything was perfect before this piece of junk touched my computer... I wish I could give this a fair rating, based on it's display quality, but I can't as it has rendered almost $4,000 of my hardware practically unusable for now. Lucky for me I have almost everything backed up except a few unimportant things, but a factory reset is still a painfully long option.
I used to think HP got a rep(and I still kind of do) but this has changed my opinion. For a long time I've used HP computers, and problems I've had have never come down to being HP related, mostly with Microsfot/Windows. But this, to me, has put a huge blemish on my opinion of HP. You can bet the next monitor I purchase will not be HP brand.
This Dell laptop I'm typing on has been good to me, it's over 5 years old, runs fine, and my family(including 8 year old niece) have put it through it's paces. Does Dell make monitors? Might keep that in mind.
Edit* 8-6-17-- It's a great monitor. I was not able to partition the screen but simply got another monitor which I needed anyway for work. I think I was being to finicky in my first review- I don't notice any backlight bleeding now. Of course, I'm not scrutinizing the monitor anymore either- In fact, my 2nd monitor was another one of these, slightly different model that i got from Best Buy on sale.
