I have wanted a color laser printer for quite some time, but the cost was always a factor because they were so expensive. I purchased this at a great price.
It was super easy to hook up to my wireless network and set up on all the computers in the house. It even works with my cell phone and tablet device. The printer does have the ability to connect via Hi-Speed USB 2.0 port, 1 Host USB, 1 Ethernet 10/100Base-TX network port if you don't want to connect using Wireless 802.11b/g/n. I'm a big fan of wireless technology in my house so I only know that the wireless was really easy to set up, I'm sure the other ways work just as well if you don't have a wireless router.
The prints are almost instantaneous. The quality of the black and white and the color is superb. I have had no trouble with this printer at all (except now I'm looking for ways to add color to things that don't necessarily need it). The printer will print 600 x 600 dpi which is great for some of my brochures and such and it prints up to 14 pages a minute in color or black and white. It does not have a duplexing unit if you want to do two sided prints, so you will have to print and then put the paper back in and print the other side. It is a minor inconvenience since moving the paper is such a simple work-around.
I have always been a fan of HP printers and this one does not disappoint. I tell the printer to print and by the time I walk into the office it is finished. It is quick, pretty quiet and very efficient.
Refill cartridges are a little expensive, but it is a laser printer so it is to be expected. We use the printer frequently and have yet to replace any cartridges so I'm pleased about that.
It is a large and heavy printer, so keep that in mind when you are thinking of where to put it. It weighs somewhere around 40 pounds and its dimensions are (length x width x height) 20.2 x 15.9 x 13.9 inches. I am still looking for the "right" printer stand to hold it, but It currently resides next to my husband's desk on a home made bench.
The printer is always ready to go within a minute of turning on, and prints are crisp and clean. The speed, like all modern laser printers is "fast enough" for home and light office duty. I recommend that you not choose between consumer models based on raw numbers, and buy a heavier-duty printer for heavier-duty needs. This is my first personal laser printer, so I have no baseline, but the toner usage seems almost miserly, and I've heard the replacement cartridges hold almost twice the toner as the included starters, so very satisfied there.
The wireless feature is convenient but not a deal-breaker for me. Easy to set up and thus far reliable. It does give me options in where to put it, since I don't have to invest in an expensive long-distance USB cable to move it to a distant corner, thus freeing up some valuable shelf space close to where I sit. I haven't tried it, but I like the prospect of painless printing from my Android devices. It's unlikely I'll ever need to print through the web away from home, especially considering I leave the printer turned off most of the time (and always when I'm away), but once again it's nice having options.
Board and role-playing games are a hobby of mine, and one of the main reasons I bought this printer was to download "print and play" games. Printing this on an inkjet became an exercise in frustration and futility. It was so slow (when printing at a high enough quality to not look like a bad inkjet print) and required so much maintenance, more often than not the files would end up gathering digital dust on my hard drive rather than go through the trouble of printing. With this LaserJet, I flip it on, load up some card stock, and a few minutes later I'm happily gluing the pieces to some heavier board and cutting away. More often than not, the bulk of the artwork is graphic design and illustrations, so the photo quality is adequate. The finish feels professional, and I don't have to worry about smudges. A+ on this mark!
Only time will tell if it's cheaper to maintain than a consumer inkjet printer, but it's going to leave my professional photo inkjet printer in the dust. Even not counting wasted ink from cleaning clogged heads, based on rough guesses of the number of pages I'll get out of toner vs ink cartridges, I'd still put it up against my cheap inkjet printer.
This is my first HP printer in probably 15 years, after several Epson models. I'm still getting used to the differences in the software between the brands, but it seems perfectly adequate once I locate the settings I'm looking for. I find that I'm much quicker with the HP LaserJet to just select an included preset and check portrait/landscape orientation than with an Epson inkjet, though to be fair I was also more likely to be printing photo quality on the inkjet which required more tweaking.
I said I ditched my inkjet printer, but that's only partially true. Like most laser printers, photo quality is passable at best and can't compete with even average inkjet printers in color range and accuracy. Blues in particular get washed out and lose a lot of detail, and reds tend to print on the dark side. This is a "business graphics" printer. So this replaces my cheap inkjet printer, but I'm keeping around the photo printer for my [increasingly more rare] photo needs, and that only because I already have one. For most users, I'd recommend this laser printer for home and light office work, and send out to a professional service (even something cheap and local like retail drug chains) for any photo needs.
Also, my "cheap daily inkjet printer" was actually an all-in-one, including a scanner. I have another scanner, but it's so old the drivers no longer work on modern OS. So for now I'm living without a scanner, but if the need arises I'll just invest in a stand-alone model (hopefully a large format one). I'm not a big fan of "all-in-one" anything, really, and I only had that printer due to a good sale at the time. I much prefer to pick devices that do one thing really well. I understand the appeal of being able to emulate a photocopier by scanning and printing with one button, but in practice I always ended up cleaning the scans in software before printing anyway.

Only con; It is rather heavy and needs a corner of a desk/table.
Pros; Print ink is very reasonable and easy to get, great print quality and speed.
We have been looking for a InkJet replacement for many years and this is IT.
Here is a bit of follow up: I just printed a few black and white pages; the text is really good compared to my old mono laser.
